Indian TV Shows which are on SIMILAR lines of 'Game Of Thrones'..!
Let the 'Game Of Thrones' begin..

We are into the sixth season of the most epic saga of modern times, Game Of Thrones' and it just gets better with every passing episode. The first three episodes have turned out to be momentous for the viewers (of course, don't worry, I am not giving out any spoilers of the current season).
We can keep talking about how Indian adaptations will spoil it, if ever, someone made an Indian version of it. (Rani Mahal, if you remember) But, with micro analysis, we may not be able to literally adapt the show, but we surely have managed to give some amazing shows which you will find vaguely similar to Game Of Thrones'.
Before we start with the list, let's encapsulate the highlights of Game Of Thrones'..! Revenge, betrayal, power, tyranny, love, strategies and what not..!
Viruddh
This Smriti Irani starrer can be termed as a revolution in Indian television history, where Smriti had just gotten rid of her Tulsi tag from 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. And the actress made her comeback to television with this epic saga. A show about political games, betrayal, strategies and power-packed performances by Smriti herself, Vikram Gokhale and Sushant Singh, the show can probably be the closest to being similar to 'Game Of Thrones'.
Desh Ki Beti Nandini
The first thing which strikes my mind if I would find the similarity for 'Desh Ki Beti Nandini' and 'Game Of Thrones' would straight away be Daenerys Targareyen (Emilia Clarke). Of course, I am not talking about the two characters having similar journeys, but it is about a woman ruling a country which goes similar to a woman ruling the whole of Westeros. Keerti Nagpure as Nandini was good, but may have to find someone more fiery for Daenerys' aggression and passion.
Mahabharat
It just doesn't get more obvious, does it? In fact there have been instances, people have said, George R.R. Martin, author of Game Of Thrones', in fact derived inspiration from Mahabharat' for the book. *straight face*. We rather not comment on that. But, Mahabharat' is literally the perfect mythological version of Game Of Thrones'. Where the 90's show was a mammoth hit, the modern show was launched in 2013 and had actors like Shaheer Sheikh, Sourabh Raaj Jain, Aparna Dixit among others playing the lead roles. Needless to say, it was a huge hit too.
Begu Sarai
The show, 'Begu Sarai' is one of the great shows on Indian television running currently where touching the remote areas of Bihar and the grim reality about the city, you have a feel of 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' to it. However, with the previous plot and the new leap, the show is now all about tyrannical rule. A powerful and ruthless woman is ruling city of Begu Sarai and has five sons. To top it up, she is now passing on her merciless trait to her sons and grooming them to rule. Wanna relate tyranny to Game Of Thrones'? Remember all the stories about the Mad King, Rhaegar Targareyen and you will agree.
Ek Hasina Thi
I am sure this show is still amongst the loved shows list of many. The Vatsal Sheth-Sanjeeda Sheikh starrer 'Ek Hasina Thi' was loosely based on the American series, 'Revenge'. However to make it acceptable for Indian television was a challenge and Boom! It was a massive success. The show has revenge as its main flavor and Game Of Thrones' has revenge as one of its most important aspects. I mean, Cersei and Jaime are all set and planning for their revenge' already.
Naagin
Even before one gets what' about this one, if a Game Of Thrones' viewer is extremely intricate while watching the show, he/she may agree. The Arjun Bijlani-Mouni Roy-Adaa Khan starrer has been a mammoth hit and the transformation of a human into a snake have somehow always been loved by all.
Season 2 Spoiler (GOT)-
If you would want to relate the same to Game Of Thrones', remember Melisandre's mysterious and shocking scenes where she gave birth to a faceless demon who killed Renly Baratheon and then disappeared.
Well, we love Game Of Thrones' and to think about an Indian version of the same would be preposterous to many, but we can certainly not deny that if not the complete show, we certainly have some great key features of the show in our selective shows.

Most of the shows stated above don't compare with GOT (not in terms of quality) in terms of scale. GOT is an epic saga with many houses in-fighting and some additional threats. The only show which compares with GOT is Mahabharat. But Mahabharat, I personally feel, is better and much edgier than GOT since it was written ages ago. Ek Hasina Thi was a good show but it's not like GOT. It's like Revenge. Just coz a show has a "revenge" storyline, doesn't mean it's like GOT. I feel the writer has forcefully tried to draw comparison between dis-similar shows just to cater to the popularity of GOT.

Mahabharata the story is epic (not including the new show cos that failed in many respects). I can see why one might compare it to GoT but all we have to remember is that GoT is fictitious and the Mahabharata actually happened.

Game of Thrones is overrated with a stupid concept! Naagin is a great show!! Begusarai was good before the leap and before Narendra Jha's exit. Virrudh was a classic!
