Imran Khan reveals divorce with Avantika Malik was 'gut-wrenching' but helped him become stronger

Imran Khan was away from the limelight for a long time. The actor went through a divorce in 2019 after being wedded to his childhood sweetheart, Avantika Malik for eight long years. Imran Khan who is hailed as India's own 'Disney Prince' is planning a comeback in movies. He confessed that he was suffering from depression and wanted to stay away from the limelight that showbiz brought on him. Imran Khan who is co-parenting his daughter Imara with ex-wife Avantika Malik moved away from the family home to stay in a small flat all by himself. He lived very sparsely as he underwent counselling to heal his mind and soul. Imran Khan said he was affected by the string of flops and he realised he did not want to act for some time in front of the camera. 

In an interview to We Are Yuvaa's YouTube channel he said the decision to divorce was not an easy one. Then, he said they knew they had to split as the couple were no longer empowering one another or being happy together. He said he did not want things to deteriorate to a nasty level. But he accepted that the decision to split was gut-wrenching and heart-breaking. 

You start to get into patterns, which may not be the healthiest. And in this case, in order for both of us to thrive, we needed to take a difficult call. It's not easy; it's gut-wrenching, heart-wrenching. But ultimately, it has been instrumental in my becoming healthier, stronger.

During the pandemic, he met and befriended actor and art curator Lekha Washington. Now, the couple are living-in together. They are staying on rent at the apartment of Karan Johar. Lekha Washington and Imran Khan also attended the marriage of Ira Khan and Nupur Shikhare together. Imran Khan said that finally he is getting used to being with someone. The actor also said that his family was worried reading some of the headlines about him in the media. There was one video where he looked like he had lost a lot of weight. His mother’s reaction to the press left him worried.

It seems Imran Khan has already started work on his comeback movie. It will be directed by Vir Das. Aamir Khan is having a cameo role in the film. It is supposed to be a happy-go-lucky character. The shoot happened in Goa.
