After living in the tyranny that the British Rule turned out to be, India won back its freedom on August 15, 1947. And to ensure the smooth running of the whole country, the Constitution was drafted and it came to effect on January 26, 1950.
And as India celebrates its 73rd Republic Day today, we got in touch with 'Iss Mod Se Jaate Hai' actor Hitesh Bharadwaj and asked him about his views on the special day and also his childhood memories related to the same.
Hitesh quipped, “Republic Day is a very important day for all Indians as this was the day when the country’s constitution was finalised. As a child, I was very keen on knowing more about our history, but not just that, I used to even participate and lead the school parade during Republic Day. As kids, we used to go around the city with drums in our hands and chant slogans like ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai'. "
He added, "Our school would give us chocolates, juice, and yummy food while we went for these parades, so it used to be a lot of fun. Nowadays I celebrate Republic Day with kids, and I tell them heroic stories of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Rajguru, amongst others. This year also I plan to the same and wish that everyone has a great Republic Day."
