The government has prohibited television channels from airing condom advertisements from 6 a.m to 10 p.m, since some of the commercials were declared "indecent and impacting children". This move of the government has evoked strong reactions from companies and advertisers.

We got talking to a few industry celebs and here's what they have to say about this move by the Indian Government.

Anuj Sachdeva

I think the lack of sex education in our country is what impacts children. We are such a hypocritical society. On one hand, we talk about how much we are progressing and on the other we have a problem with TV channels airing condom ads. Do we even realise that condoms promote protected sex which is the most essential education the citizens of this nation need to get. We are okay with so many molestations and rape incidents happening in this country day in and day out but we will ban something as trivial as a condom ad on television.

Meghna Naidu

Condom ads are so important to show to the people of our country. It's something so basic and significant. Instead of making more educative ads and videos to teach the people of our country the right thing, our government decides to take down condom ads in the day. I am shocked. If one finds an ad explicit, you have the option of making another ad. But banning of something like this is a bit too much.

Around the world, such advertising is being deregulated to prevent teenage pregnancies. It is now being widely recognised as the part of imparting certain knowledge but yes the creativity can be changed to decent advertising.

Madhura Naik

I stand with my government. The decision is very much fine. As every country has some protocols and our nation is known for its heritage and culture. We have a conservative close culture and it's a question of ethics as well. And none of the parents will find it easy to expose their children with such stuff at a very early age. I feel you have to work by your culture at the end of the day.

Roopal Tyagi

I don't agree with it. With a country that needs to seriously control its population, this doesn't seem the apt thing to do. What they can do is maybe monitor the content of these ads if the sensuality is a botheration.

Well, these are pretty strong reactions. What is your viewpoint? Do let us know in the comment section below..

Madhura is one of the most sexist and stylish actress of Indian Television. I guess her regressive comment is the result of acting in a show like Tu Suraj Main Saanjh Piyaji for 8 months.

Coming to the topic, Karan-Bips ad was so inappropriate to be shown at prime time. It was unnecessarily so long of 1 minute 30 seconds when normally condom ads are of 15-20 seconds. Bips said the ad is to spread social awareness when the ad had nothing to show any kind of social awareness. It was just like a trailer of an erotic movie. Who is Bips kidding that they did ad to spread social awareness? Manforce, Durex and Kamasutra ads were better as they did not at least claimed to spread awareness, were shorter in length and not vulgar at all. The government should let the shorter ads stay but ban the ones that are longer like Karan-Bips ad.

Agreed with many here... there was one more ad where this guy has condom condom as ring tone... it's was funny but also gave message that there is no need to be shy about saying condom...

And madhura!!! Isn't she the same girl who did big f episode...

And what make these rule enforcers think that children don't watch TV after 10 moreover Heritage, culture, pride revolve around sex and condom ads! Sex is the basic need of the body and condom is a necessity of second most populated country in the word!! They can ban it from kids channel if they wish... But I feel it's really natural that at a age one gets overly excited about adult things and build their own myths and believes related it's necessary to set it straight and so sex education at early age during puberty is necessary!

instead of Ads, start teaching sex education in schools. they need to education kids about the dangers and responsibility that comes with the act.Instead of burying ones head in the sand pretending we are in the dark ages, get proactive and teach the young generation how to protect themselves and also try to minimized teenage pregnancy.
Politician start the conversation instead of banning condom Ads

im from the US and we dont have condom ads here ...instead we are taught sex education starting 5th grade at age 10 little by little an the full course by age 14, however they ask the parent if their child can take part in these classes, but in high school during grade 9 it is mandatory to take that class!

madhura naik = regressive thinker officially. kudos to you on winning that title. because morals and ethics are more important than population control and safety. PEOPLE HAVE SEX. its human nature. By banning it, you are turning a blind eye to its existence. People will do it anyway.. so how about you educate them about the importance of safe sex?

dumbo.

and YES it should be taught in schools as well.

Instead of educating through ads, they should educate it using the right methods which should be at school. Watching condom ads doesn't educate children since some of them aren't even aware of sex and all it does it makes you feel uncomfortable esspecially with it's sexual imagery. So instead of making ads, use a better platform to educate. A sexual ad doesn't teach anything, instead it is provocative and makes people watching tv specially with family uncomfortable.
