Actor Harshvardhan Rane has been on a roll ever since his performance in Taish was appreciated a lot. Since then, he starred in the equally acclaimed film, Haseen Dilruba and had several projects rolling as well. But as one would remember, it was the film Sanam Teri Kasam that put Rane on the map and for the longest time, there have been rumors that a sequel is being planned.
It has been six years since the film happened that also starred Mawra Hocane as the female lead. And now, reports confirm that the film is all set to get a sequel. The film's directors, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru,
who specialise in creating story-led music videos, are gearing up to take the sequel to Sanam Teri Kasam on floors in September-October this year. The film will be shot at locations in Mumbai and Delhi.
Sapru confirmed the same with Bombay Times as he said, “We’re really happy that we could crack a story for this one. It moves ahead - it talks about what happens to Harshvardhan Rane’s character after Mawra’s character dies in the first outing. In that sense, the films are connected with one another. We’re all very excited about this. We had been thinking a lot about what we could do to take this film forward into a sequel. It has taken us six years to arrive at this juncture. The film has achieved a cult status and we didn’t want to disappoint the audience with an underwhelming story. So, even though the intention was always there, we didn’t proceed until we found a story that both Radhika and I were happy with."
He added, "While people recall Sanam Teri Kasam for its fantastic songs, there’s a beautiful love-story at the core, which stems from our mythology - the mythology around Lord Shiva and Sati. The sequel also has its roots in mythology - in Shiva and Parvati. It’s urban and contemporary but the films are soaked in the mythological stories that we have all been exposed to in some form. The music will be the sequel’s backbone, too.”
As we know that Hocane's character died in the film in the end so one wonders if there will be a way, it will be revived in the sequel. Talking about that, Rane said, “I am not sure we can do that this time around. Sinec her character completes its journey in the first film itself, we might have to work with another artiste this time. It’s a heartbreaking moment to watch Harshvardhan’s character under the tree where she’s buried. The sequel kicks off from what happens to him after that.”
