Today the very sweet and pretty Suman of Maine Pyar Kiya celebrates her birthday! That's right! The one and only Bhagyashree Dassani, best known for bringing the role of Suman in Maine Pyar Kiya to life is celebrating her birthday today.
Bhagyashree was born on 23rd February, 1969 in the royal Marathi of Sangl to Vijay Singhrao Madhavrao Patwardhan and Rajlaxmi as Bhagyashree Raje Patwardhan. She has two younger sisters named Madhuvanti and Purnima.
Bhagyashree began her career with a TV serial by Amol Palekar named Kachhi Dhoop, which was loosely based on Louisa Mary Alcott's Little Women. Amol Palekar used to be her neighbor at that time and when the original actress of the serial left abruptly, he requested her to step in. The serial did extremely well and she went on to play roles in Honi Anhoni and Kisse Miya Biwi Ke creating a strong path for her entry into Bollywood.
In 1989, she debuted in the blockbuster movie Maine Pyar Kiya alongside Salman Khan, who also debuted in this film. The field was Sooraj Barjatya's brainchild as he was both the writer and the director. The film soon reached the status of a cult film and her "Friend" cap became one of the most sought after caps for many years to come. She was appreciated for the role by critics and moviegoers alike and was labelled the next big thing until her marriage. After marriage, she refused to act with other actors choosing only to act opposite her husband, which proved to be a wrong decision for her blooming career. Her next set of films were unable to create the magic of Maine Pyar Kiya and several were even considered Box Office duds. By the end of the 1990s, she left the film industry for good to raise her family.
In 2001, she started returning to movies, first with a movie titled Hello Girls in 2001, then in Janani (2006), Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (2006), and Red Alert - The War Within (2008). She also made a comeback to TV with Aandhi Jasbaton Ki, Didi Ka Dulha, and Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 3. However, none of her roles were able to return her to her previous glory in the industry.
