On 28 September 1982, Ranbir Kapoor was born to actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.
Coming from a family that witnessed the excellence of celebrated actors like Raj Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor, who contributed highly to the cinema industry, Ranbir had a huge pressure on his shoulders to carry forward the legacy of his family. But what exceeded through this pressure was his sheer passion for the movies and his honesty towards the craft that mirrors through his work.
With a career spanning 13 years, Ranbir has been a part of some splendid projects and worked with filmmakers that are every actor's dream.
On his birthday, we're looking back at some of his finest performances through characters that teach us some life lessons that will stay with us forever.
1. Siddharth Mehra, Wake Up Sid
A simple story set in the warmth of the Mumbai city, proceeding into Sid and Aisha's love story is a perfect watch to give you all the feelz.
Ranbir plays a jovial college teenager with so much ease that the film instantly resonated with many. His character Sid teaches us that you do not always have to be the smartest in the room until you have your heart at the right place!
2. JJ aka Jordan, Rockstar
When Imtiaz Ali and Ranbir Kapoor meet, magic is created. RK's journey from Janardhan Jakhar, a Jatt boy to Jordan, an international rockstar only affirm that if you work hard enough for what your heart really wants, you will achieve it.
Also to heal the pain of a love that couldn't find togetherness, Ali ends the film with a quote by Rumi: “Pata hai… Yahaan se bahut door, ghalat aur sahi ke paar, ek maidan hai, main wahaan milunga tujhe."
3. Barfi
One of Ranbir Kapoor's most underrated perormances, Murphy "Barfi" Johnson: a deaf and mute man living life to the fullest and spreading love like a boomerang is the only life lesson we need. Despite his disabilities, Barfi celebrates life and spends every moment in joy, which is indeed something to take notes from.
4. Bunny, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Everybody's favourite, Bunny from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani lives life on his own terms. Woh "udna chahta hain, daudna chahta hain, girna bhi chahta hain … Bus rukna nahi chahta." Bunny teaches us to shed the weight of pressures and take on risks to make the life you want for yourself.
5. Ved Sahni, Tamasha
Saved the best for the last. Another Imtiaz Ali-Ranbir Kapoor gem, with RK's scintillating chemistry with Deepika Padukone adding the cherry to the cake. Ved Sahni, a man choking in his monotonous life breaks through to follow his passion and paint the world with his stories. Over the years, Tamasha has been an art of inspiration for every person who dared to follow their dreams.
Ranbir Kapoor is indeed one of the most promising actors of his generation and one of the very few artists who embrace emotions of love, passion, and grief on screen with so much honesty.
Here's wishing Ranbir Kapoor a very happy birthday!
