Forget Pehredaar Piya Ki, where was all the CRITICISM when these shows were launched and successful!

How did the viewers turn so opinionated suddenly?

Disclaimer: This article in no way supports Pehredaar Piya Ki. This is just a perception about how the listed shows escaped our eyes.

There has been a lot of hue and cry over Sony TV's Pehredaar Piya Ki being regressive and promoting all the wrong ideas to the audience. However. there is no denying that the show isn't in any way a progressive one, or something that needs to be highlighted on TV, but is being given undue importance.

And, all of this only makes us wonder where were all the critics, the questions and all the judgements, when shows like Dil Se Di Dua...Saubhagyavati Bhava, Baalika Vadhu and Bandini ran successfully.

Read on as we list them down for you!

Dil Se Di Dua...Saubhagyavati Bhava?

The story talks about domestic violence and Viraj Dobriyal's (Karanvir Bohra) obsessive streak. Viraj proposes marriage to Jhanvi (Sriti Jha) and the two get married with her family's approval. Post marriage, Jhanvi witnesses Viraj's obsessive and psycho nature but bears with him, until she loses her child and finally, decides to leave him. But does Viraj leave her? Definitely not! He follows her and vows to kill Raghav (Harsha Chopra), the man who saves Jhanvi and she wishes to lead a happy life with.

While you might think that we sympathise with Jhanvi, or pity her for going through all that torture, you actually should feel sorry about the very idea of promoting all this cruelty and yet not showing the lead fight against it.

It wasn't necessary to show her start off a life with Raghav, was it? Or, is that very progressive?

Balika Vadhu

Balika Vadhu wasn't accepted very well in the beginning. However, with time passing by, it became one of the cult shows in Indian Television. While there were questions raised in the beginning, they all subdued towards the latter part of the show.

Of all the things, the idea of a honeymoon in Pehredaar Piya Ki was looked down upon, while the scene was nothing close to what one would imagine. However, Balika Vadhu showed a sequence where Gehena (Neha Marda) and Basant (Satyajit Sharma) are celebrating their honeymoon; given the age gap that the two have in the show, how come no one batted an eyelid on that?

Naagin

A show like Naagin went on to become a TRP topper,. In fact, its sequel Naagin 2 as well was received very well by the viewers and remained on the Top spot. And, that is totally fine because?
Well, one, because Ekta Kapoor. Two, because who does not like to see pretty Naagins like Mouni Roy and Adaa Khan? Three, in a country like India, it is totally okay to have shows which promote superstitions and the entire concept of Naags, Naagins, and Naagmanis.

How many of us would actually marry the girl/boy whose marriage you decided to sponsor yourself? I don't think any would. More so, definitely not to please the workers who work for us.

Bandini is a story where Dharamraj (Ronit Roy) marries Santu (Aasiya Kazi) just because if he didn't, the workers wouldn't be at peace with him. A widower, he already has 5 children and on taking Santu home, she is only shooed away and abused.

The very idea of this marriage does not appeal to us in any manner. And, to top it all, the poor girl is also left with no option but to take the blame of a murder that Dharamraj's daughter committed. And then there is only unnecessary drama that follows - of the son being stolen, Dharamraj being kidnapped and Santu being jailed.

A rather recent show from the entire lot, Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai has been added to our list because we couldn't understand how it is okay to ogle at someone else's wife and turn it into a funny situation. While one man is unemployed and has a pretty wife, the other man has a business and also a simple spouse. But, what the show talks about is how the two of them actually try to impress each others' wives and expect the audience to find humour in it.

Sony TV show Beyhadh finds its presence here because of all the obsession and killing that it promotes. While the show is a critically acclaimed one for sure and deserves all the appreciation for the acting skills of the trio Jennifer Winget, Kushal Tandon and Aneri Vajani, at the end of it all, it promotes the obsessive streak that Maya has.
Killing and turning psychotic in the name of love isn't really what we need to promote, do we?

If I could give this article a lower rating, I would. Such tone-deafness and a complete lack of knowledge... did the writer even see these tv shows or is just reading off synopsis and making assumptions???

BV NEVER glorified these ills - it always spoke out against societal ills... furthermore, NEVER was an ADULT married to a CHILD in the show.

DSDSSB was about DOMESTIC VIOLENCE - an important and necessary concept to educate the public about...

The other shows were based on novels/are pure fiction... are we really comparing a comedy (of consenting adults) and a mythological fantasy show to one about an adult getting married to a child???

Difference is here one is minor and other a major.
In balikavadu given situation lady was adult.
In anandi marriage it was not glorified but shown as bad thing unlike pehridar. Natin is mythical if your argument is taken then no fantasy genre will work. I don't find bhabiji as funny at all but who knows what. Saubhagyavathi even i hoped either she fight or he reform but ...

Honestly, IF's quality or lack thereof has gone down the drain long time ago. Now they mostly write incoherent articles littered with grammatical or spelling errors. There is little to no research done and most articles are only written to earn page views. The writers should return to school in order to learn what good journalism is. Hell, the writers here should not even be called "journalists" such terrible quality and no attention to detail. Only reason IF is still surviving is due to the forums, and even the development team knows this hence no attention is given to the journalism part of it. simply lazy writing to earn a quick buck.

IF, I don't think you know what the hell you're talking about. Bandini received a lot of flack, there was even a case filed against Balaji, for the mistreatment of the character Santu
.

IF, why Aasiya Kazi isn't tagged in this article

Correction : Gehna in Balika Vadhu was never an underage girl when married to Basant She was 18 Legally an adult when married to Basant so it was adult marriage not a a child marriage The way Gehna was married to Basant against her wishes was wrong and it was shown as wrong not right Both Dadisaa and Basant realized their misdeeds and repented for them and corrected Gehna's life which they messed and later Dadisaa who bought her for Basant returned her everything she snatched from her even married her off to her first love Niranjan with whom she would have married if not to Basant but Gehna was not a Balika vadhu She was not a kid so correct your facts and stop misleading people to defend this Pathetic show Pehre Daar Piya ki The problem with show is not the age gap but the fact a child married to an adult and showing the crime child marriage as right The leads of Balika Vadhu were married as kids but show was against child marriage It showed us plight of children who are forced into child marriages and go through different types of sufferings because of this ill practice but pehre daar piya ki is promoting this crime and ill practice as something right by the showing their mahaan female lead marrying a kid whom she could protect much better as a guardian than performing this criminal act The show was regressive and shit Good it is banned Dont compare it with cult show Balika Vadhu which spoke against child marriages not in favor of it

Theres a difference between showing obvoously fictional shows like naagin, and a show about a little boy being married off to an adult girl because of so called "circumstances" balika vadhu i never saw but it was of two children bring married not a grow. Woman and a child. Where the hell ks the indian audiences brain that advocated for this show? Im sure its not intended to set any exanple or to be taken literally but to know writers are actually writing scenes about and adult women and a child have moments is sickeing to me. And to all the gk haters with the manhandling comments, i completely agree thats also sick, but its so.ewhat digestable compared to a program if shown anywhere else in the world would immediately taken off air.

I was a big fan of Bandini. I wasn't sure at what age Santu married DM, but I think she was 18. They had zero romance between them until her 19th birthday(the very day). Although my eye brows raised about the age, exposure and experience differences between them and the fact that Santo didn't chose him...he was forced on her, Her maturity in actions and words made them perfect for each other. It wan't child marriage too
Coming to PPK, I used to watch it and the fact is that it was not glorifying child married, but my fear is that the way things are going, it would not condemn it either.
I don't care that Balika Vadhu leads were both kids while PPK is between an adult and a kid. Both show's situations victimizes kids period.
The difference is that while children in BV acted as kids and didn't even know what they are doing, The child in PPK is shown as accidentally a better "husband" than most grown men...Which seem to justify that the two are made for each other regardless of the age. This ticks people off.
Yes, Basanth married an underage girl, but they didn't show it as a good thing. In fact, he was shown as an evil man, and a wife rapist. Hence, it as a clear message that the marriage was wrong. It was after years when he changed his life, decided to divorce her to gave her her freedom, offered to report himself to the police, and she willingly falls in love with him as an adult before people stopped bashing the jodi.
