Fashion Police: IIFA Awards 2014

IIFA presented an opportunity to our celebs to show the world their inner rockstars and they didn't disappoint. The Fashion Police bring you the wrap up of the style statements our divas and dudes took into show.

This year the 15th International Indian Film Academy Awards, popularly known as IIFA, took Bollywood to core of all the filigree and fancy of the glamour world, The Unites States of America. Held at Tampa Bay, Florida, IIFA presented an opportunity for our celebs to show the world their inner rockstars and they didn't disappoint. Well at least some didn't. For the rest, it's the Fashion Police from the desk of BollyCurry bringing you the wrap up of the style statements our divas and dudes took into show.

The lady of all awards night this year, Deepika Padukone was one of the most awaited at the IIFA green carpet to dazzle the public and the shutter bucks equally. She did manage it but not to the T we're used to. Dressed in a red lace gown by Zuhair Murad, hair in an updo and berry red lips, Padukone sure was a picture of an award winner but in pieces; the whole ensemble together was not that impactful. The different shades of red on lips and of the dress clashed and made her face look too severe. Neck up she owned it, neck down she was a sight to behold, together we just say good going Ms. Padukone but we expected much more. BollyCurry Rating: 3.5/5

Priyanka Chopra for a time now has been lacking in the fashion department as her "stuck in a rut" attitude overshadowed any chances of change. But surely there's a God who made Ms. Chopra look into her past of excellencies. Draped in a blush color Monique Lhuillier gown, Chopra looked fabulously feminine and serene. A soft updo, neutral make-up with smoky eyes, golden cuff in each hand and diamond studs added to the glory of her appearance. It's been long since Ms. Chopra looked so well put together. BollyCurry Rating: 5/5

He is hitting sixty in some years, spent almost forty years in the industry and all of his three children tower over him but if you think all this is going to age "Mr. India" Anil Kapoor, you are mistaken. Looking dapper in an electric blue dinner jacket with black lapels, black dress pants, a black shirt and a classic bow tie, he was at his jhakaas best! BollyCurry Rating: 5/5

Carrying two major legacies in her name, Kareena Kapoor has lately been keeping up with the royal feel in her appearances too. Wearing a black crepe Armani gown, she was surely the best dressed of the awards night. Many people would definitely do a double take for Kappor isn't known to go risque to a point where the decolletage is so steep. However, on a closer look, you'll see an illusion panel, something that the original design too has, though she did get the neckline slightly modified. Hair in an updo, light make-up with blush pink lips, pink nail paint and no bling except for her rocks and chote nawab completed the "I own this night" look. If this isn't best we have seen on the red carpet, or here the green one, then we are aiming too high for the future. BollyCurry Rating: 5/5

Sonakshi Sinha knows fashion to a point where she has studied it in college and has generally dressed up to an occasion in something that flatters her gorgeousness. But if she got it right every time, our job would be too easy. A royal blue-black gown by Amit Aggarwal turned out to be Sinha's choice for the night. The shiny material of the black linings and bodice made the dress look garish, coupled with the fact that the bodice made the bust look uncomfortable. Rather than being a well fitted gown, it seemed like Sinha was stuffed into it. The hair and make-up were too lukewarm and even though blue favors her, this time around the only saving grace was her confident smile. BollyCurry Rating: 2/5

Parineeti Chopra picked out a Nikhil Thampi ensemble in a shade of peach with black chinos for the IIFA awards night. Having such a perfect willowy figure, Ms. Chopra wavers towards personifying her inner wild child but the choices kill her hard work. The color suited her but that was the only thing going good. The rest was a disaster. The bust area was ill fitting to a point of distraction, adding to which the open left cut accented the tight fit of her chinos making her waist look bulging from that side. Even if we give brownie points for the hair, the make-up and heels make us snatch them away. Chopra has the potential, if only she separates her flamboyant attitude from her dressing sense which does not favor her body type. BollyCurry Rating: 2.5/5

Playing safe isn't an attribute Ranveer Singh likes to associate with and he has proven that time and again. Singh arrived draped in a lavender (of all colors) suit by Tom Ford. White check shirt with a violet tie and tan formal shoes completed the ensemble. We might not be able to express ourselves in the right words but to say the least, he looked phenomenal. We may say that the shirt wasn't the best choice, but the suave with which he carries himself, the oozing confidence and the killer charm, you don't bother that he is wearing lavender. And if you take a peek at the gaping ankle, yes there are violet socks too! BollyCurry Rating: 4/5

Kalki Kochelin is a like a breath of fresh air among the obvious. Favoring the unorthodox way of depiction, her style goes the same way. This time around though, it was almost there. Opting for the Ice Queen look, Kochelin wore a Gaurav Gupta gown in chalky white and grey. It was a lovely creation by the designer and you may consider it more of a fairytale gown, but we won't fault Kochelin for choosing it. The face, hair and make-up were top notch, the problem was her choice of inner wear, or maybe the gown itself, as it didn't suit her body type. Kochelin seems to drown in the dress, making her look almost flat and as delicate as her figure is; the gown made her weigh down. She looked good at certain angles but the whole twirl was not impressive. BollyCurry Rating: 3/5

Swara Bhaskar has always given great performances both in her movies and in her appearances and to such, a few misses are always forgiven. Ms. Bhaskar stepped out on the IIFA green carpet wearing a green Badgley Mischka tube gown with silver sequins and carrying a black Ferragamo clutch. Soft curls and neutral make-up with some jewels in the ears completed her look. Maybe it was the clash of greens or the reptilian vibe that pulled down this look, we're not sure. Though she looked good, a pinch of something was missing. BollyCurry Rating 3/5

His Hotness Sidharth Malhotra is a major cause for palpitation in females and males alike and thus you cannot fault us in finding him looking gorgeous here as well. Wearing an olive green bandgala with black pants by Manish Malhotra, he stepped out into the night to charms us all. But when we looked pass our daze, we see that things were not all that good. The jacket made him look bulky and even though the color suited him and we move pass it, the pants killed it all. He did look a little peachy though and if those close fists and not a single smile in motion are anything to go by, we think he might be under the weather. Poor baby. BollyCurry Rating: 3/5

Synonymous to her name, Yami Gautam looked quite yummy, even when she is not trying, but we say she should try a little more. Attending the awards night she chose to wear a gown by Gauri and Nainika with black bodice and a white/cream full length tulle skirt. It was safe choice and Gautam looked really pretty but the looked screamed of highschool prom. The lackluster hair and make-up did almost nothing to accentuate the plain gown and so made it to our passable list, but we hope it does not happen again. BollyCurry Rating: 3/5

All hail the Greek God as he graces us mere humans with his divine presence. Hrithik Roshan was dressed to kill and how. Well suited in a Troy Costa tuxedo, Roshan was too good to be true and why not when the God thing is looking quite real. His suave, the urban charm and sprinkles of cuteness make Roshan the hero of the night. Someone do tell us what it takes to get one like him. BollyCurry Rating: 5/5

The IIFA weekend is always a time for our celebs to mingle and join hands in presenting Bollywood to the chosen destination of each year. This time too the goals were met and the awards night was a hit. We chose some of our most noticeable looks from the green carpet. Let us know what you think of them and the ones we let go.
