The family members of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Khudiram Bose have strongly dismissed any suggestion that Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, a prominent figure in the Hindutva ideology, had a role in inspiring these freedom fighters. Their reactions came in response to a tweet by actor Randeep Hooda, who plays Savarkar in the biopic "Swatantrata Veer Savarkar," where he claimed that Savarkar was the inspiration behind revolutionaries like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, and Khudiram Bose.
Anita Bose Pfaff, Netaji's daughter, stated that the only thing common between her father and Savarkar was their religion. She mentioned that Netaji was a devout and religious man, with great respect for all religions. Like Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji opposed divisiveness based on religious differences. Pfaff expressed her desire for Savarkar's followers to align with Netaji's vision for a united India rather than hijacking it for views that did not align with his principles.
Subrata Roy, the grandnephew of Khudiram Bose, emphasized that no references in books indicated that Khudiram Bose found inspiration in Savarkar. He clarified that Khudiram was part of Anushilan Samiti, an underground society for revolutionaries, and was inspired by figures like Hemchandra Kanungo, Satyen Bose, and Aurobindo Ghosh.
Also, Chandra Bose, Netaji's grandnephew, pointed out that Savarkar's ideology fundamentally differed from that of Netaji and Bhagat Singh, who fought for a secular united India. He mentioned that Savarkar advocated for a Hindu Rashtra (nation), similar to Jinnah's demand for a Muslim state. Chandra Bose cited evidence from Netaji's writings and speeches demonstrating his opposition to Savarkar. Netaji's unfinished autobiography clearly stated that nothing could be expected from the Hindu Mahasabha or the Muslim League in India's freedom movement. There were multiple speeches where Netaji expressed his lack of expectations from Savarkar and Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
The teaser of Swatantrata Veer Savarkar continues to draw attention and controversies with every passing day.
