In a shocking case, Delhi Police have arrested two individuals, Tarun Shekhar Sharma and Asha Singh, for running a fake casting company in the name of veteran television producer Rajan Shahi. Known for creating blockbuster shows like Anupamaa and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai under his banners Director’s Kut Productions, Shahi Productions Pvt Ltd, and iShahi Productions, Rajan Shahi’s name was misused to dupe aspiring newcomers.
The fraudsters used Rajan Shahi’s and his daughter Ishika’s photos to create fake WhatsApp accounts and Facebook profiles, trapping struggling actors with the promise of casting opportunities. Their scam came to light after they allegedly cheated a young aspiring actress of a massive ?24 lakh.
There is a lot of fraud happening in the name of our company. Through digital platforms and press releases, I keep reminding people that at Director’s Kut Productions, Shahi Productions, and iShahi Productions, no money is taken for casting

Rajan, who has often spoken up against such frauds, shared a video warning aspiring actors to remain cautious. In his statement, he stressed that neither he nor his companies ever charge money for casting. He explained, “There is a lot of fraud happening in the name of our company. Through digital platforms and press releases, I keep reminding people that at Director’s Kut Productions, Shahi Productions, and iShahi Productions, no money is taken for casting. Sadly, some people misuse the names of Anupamaa and Yeh Rishta to trick actors.”
He revealed that scammers even posed as Star Plus representatives claiming to cast for Anupamaa. He clarified, “We have our own casting team. If anyone else approaches you, always verify it because it is a scam.”
Rajan further narrated a recent case where a man created a fake Facebook account using his and his daughter Ishika’s photographs. Operating under the name Piyush Sharma, the fraudster scammed people relentlessly until he was finally caught.
Expressing his disappointment, Rajan said, “It makes me sad that hardworking people lose their money in such scams. If anyone asks for money in my name, please file a complaint with us or directly with the police. I have already directed several such cases to CINTAA, and they have resolved many.”
He also reminded aspirants that casting in his shows is purely based on talent and merit, in collaboration with the writers and creators.
Finally, Rajan thanked the Delhi Police for their swift action in nabbing the culprits and issued a stern warning: “Be aware. Don’t let your hard-earned money be taken away by fraudsters.”
