Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency was supposed to be releasing on September 6, 2024. Now, the clearance of the movie has been delayed. This has happened after SGPC and other Sikh bodies have said that they won’t allow the movie to be released in Punjab. They have said that the release could lead to unrest in those parts. Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is a biopic on the life of former PM Indira Gandhi. It also talks about Operation Blue Star. As we know, it was an attack on Sikh militants who had invaded the Golden Temple, as well as on Sikh temples in the state of Punjab.
Sikh bodies outside India have also expressed reservations on Emergency. They have said that there may be objectionable depiction of leaders whom many Sikhs consider as martyrs. The actress has often raised her voice against the farmer’s protest that happened in Punjab. Many Punjabi celebs too called her out for using objectionable language to describe the protestors. Now, Zee Entertainment Enterprises has moved to the Bombay High Court demanding on what grounds has CBFC not given Emergency a clearance. They have hired two top lawyers to represent their case.

Kangana Ranaut said she is disappointed with how the film has got postponed. It also has Mahima Chaudhary, Shreyas Talpade and Anupam Kher in important roles. Kangana Ranaut’s film has irked Sikh bodies over a dialogue on Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. They have said that he never made a demand for Khalistan as it is said in the dialogue. Many see him as a very respected figure. Kangana Ranaut said that it is sad that extreme nudity and violence is getting a free pass on OTT platforms but a movie on Indian history is facing such issues. The SGPC also wants the trailer to be removed from social media platforms and an apology from the makers. They say it is a misrepresentation of the community and incites hatred. Kangana Ranaut’s look as Indira Gandhi has been much appreciated. The actress needs a hit after a spate of flops.
