Disco Dancer reboot: Ranbir Kapoor, Allu Arjun to step into Mithun Chakraborty's shoes in B Subhash's film?

Disco Dancer, Mithun Chakraborty’s blockbuster from 1982 is known for one of the most iconic music albums composed by none other than late Bappi Lahiri. All the songs were famous but Jimmy Jimmy became an international sensation. It made Mithun Chakraborty, the dancing superstar of Bollywood. While he has delivered exceptional performances in many movies, Disco Dancer is the most recognized one. It seems the maker is planning a sequel keeping in mind some of the top stars of the Hindi and Telugu industry.

As per a report in Mid-Day, filmmaker B Subhash who directed the original movie is busy working on a sequel, which will be a new age version of the film. He has short-listed two actors whom he feels has the dancing skills and mass appeal that Mithun Chakraborty exuded in the 1982 movie. They are Ranbir Kapoor and Allu Arjun. He feels any of them will make a perfect leading man for the film. As per him, they’re great actors and dancers. Screenwriter KV Vijayendra Kumar is going to write the story and the screenplay. Movie buffs know him as the writer of the Baahubali series, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and many more movies.

B Subhash wanted to make this movie since a long time. However, he was caught in a legal dispute over the copyright of the film. It seems Bombay High Court recently gave a verdict in his favour. He was fighting with Shemaroo Entertainment. They had opposed his decision to make Disco Dancer 2. He maintained that he retained the creative copyright over the movie. Shemaroo has video and satellite rights over the film. In the movie, Mithun plays a young man from an impoverished background who attained stardom due to his singing and dancing skills. It also starred Kim, Om Puri, Karan Razdan and others.
