Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana’s starting revealed by Chetan Hansraj; actor confirms playing this role

The highly anticipated film Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor is generating immense buzz, and the excitement just got bigger with Chetan Hansraj's confirmation of his role as Sumali, Ravana's maternal grandfather. Having already wrapped up his portions for the film, Chetan praises Nitesh Tiwari's vision, calling it a spectacle that will leave audiences awestruck. The film boasts an impressive cast, including Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. With a massive budget of ?835 crore and international-level VFX, Ramayana is shaping up to be a cinematic masterpiece. The film is set to release in two parts: Part 1 on Diwali 2026 and Part 2 on Diwali 2027.

Speaking to Minutes of Masala recently, Chetan said, “I just finished Ramayana, Ranbir and Yash ka jo hai. It’s one of the best things I have done in my life. What a shoot! It was unbelievable. The scale it’s being done at and the whole Hollywood crew we worked with- legends of Hollywood. Ek hi picture main saare legends ke saath kaam kar diya, it was too good."

Chetan added, “I’m playing Raavan’s nana in the film. It’s a very crucial role… It starts with him. It’s one of the best shoots I’ve ever done in my life. I can’t say more, but it is by far the best shoot I’ve ever done… Abhi toh chaalu hua hai, jab sab saamne aaayega and shots dekhenge, you’ll understand the scale it’s being done at."

“I’ve never seen anything like this. Even the people who had come from Hollywood were like, ‘Boss, this is something else.’ The level they’re shooting it at, it’s something else… I learnt a lot by just being there on set," the actor mentioned.

Nitesh Tiwari's epic film Ramayana boasts an impressive cast, including Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita. The film's antagonist, Ravana, will be brought to life by KGF star Yash, who has also taken on the role of co-producer. Meanwhile, Ravi Dubey has been cast as Lakshman, and Arun Govil will play the role of King Dasharatha.

While there's no official confirmation on the shooting schedule for Part 2, reports suggest Yash might start filming his portions by December 2024, after wrapping up his current project Toxic.
