Debina Bonnerjee on Vish: It is Important to Show Indian fairy-tales of Naagin & Vishkanya!

Today, Colors TV will be launching its much awaited supernatural drama Vish featuring Debina Bonnerjee, Vishal Vashishtha, Krrip Kapur Suri and Sana Makbul in the lead roles. The show is based on Sabrina who is a Vishkanya and has replaced Adaa Khan starrer Sitara: Vish ya Amrit. Recently, we got in touch with Debina to know about her character and several other aspects around the show. 

Below are the excerpts from the conversation that we had with her.

Congratulations for Vish! Please tell us something about your character

Thank you! I am playing Sabrina who is a Vishkanya. She is a boss lady, a modern woman who speaks in English, she is stylish and nobody can make out after looking at her that she is a Vishkanya. She is a diva! Well, she is here to fullfill her hidden agenda, and whether she will be successful in her mission or not will be seen in this show.

The concept of Vishkanya is not new on Indian television, so how different is Vish from all the other shows having this concept?

It’s very much different. Every show has a different story, different actors and altogether everything changes. Vish is a story of Sabrina who not only has the poison of a snake but also of all the poisonous animals. She is last in her dynasty and this show is also about her survival.

Looking at the current scenario of Indian Television, it seems like Supernatural is the fad, please tell us your views on the same

It is very important to show fantasy on the TV and especially Indian fairy-tales of Naagin and Vishkanya. Because all the fairy-tales popular today are not based in India, call it Aladdin, Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. Naagin and Vishkanya are the stories that our Grandmothers and Mothers have told us and it’s very important to keep these stories alive.

Three things you relate to your character

I have good convincing skills and so does Sabrina. I love getting ready and Sabrina is too a stylish diva like me. We both are blunt by nature.
