Music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri passed away at a Mumbai hospital today due to multiple health issues. He was 69. The singer is known for several hits from back in the 1970s-80s, namely 'Disco Dancer', 'Sharaabi', 'Chalte Chalte', among others. He last sang for Bollywood in 2020 with 'Baaghi'.
The news of his death was confirmed by the hospital's doctor. He passed away on Tuesday night at Mumbai's CritiCare Hospital in Juhu.
"Lahiri had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called for a doctor to visit their home. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight,"
Dr Deepak Namjoshi, director of the hospital, told PTI
"We tried to revive him but it was too late,” Dr. Deepak Namjoshi, Physician, Cardiologist and Pulmonologist, told a portal.
In April last year, the singer had to be admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for the novel Coronavirus. Few days later, he recovered.
He was last seen onscreen on the sets of Bigg Boss 15, where he promoted grandson Swastik's new song Baccha Party.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit was among the first celebrities to express his grief over the demise of the veteran composer. Pandit mentioned how he was “shocked” to hear about the demise of the "rockstar”. He added,
"I can’t believe my next-door neighbour is no more. Your music will always remain in our hearts.”
May his soul rest in peace!
