Capt. Navin Singh Ahluwalia is a name that can never be forgotten, when it comes to SAB’s show, Left Right Left. The innocent faced Samir Sharma who rocketed high on the popularity charts playing the gutsy Captain in Left Right Left now turns a hockey coach and an aggressive lover in the new afternoon serial on 9X, Veeranwali..
Veeranwali, a tale of a sister’s strong bond of love towards her brothers has Samir Sharma playing Parmeet, the love interest of Veeranwali. Talking about his character, Samir says, “I play Parmeet who is a hockey coach. He is very aggressive and headstrong. In the serial, he falls in love with Veeranwali and pursues her, but is advised by all his friends not to, because of her possessive brothers. But he does not pay heed to their advice because he knows she reciprocates the same feeling too.”
A staunch believer of love in the serial, Samir in real life too relates to his character, as he says, “I am not that aggressive as Parmeet, but I do believe that if you are in love with a person, then you do have to go against all odds to be with that somebody special.”
The brother-sister bond shown in Veeranwali is a plot that is very similar to Zee’s afternoon soap Rakhi; and what’s more, the two shows are now pitted against each other in the same time slot, at 1.30 in the afternoon. So what does Samir think about the similarity in the basic plot of Veeranwali and Zee’s Rakhi? Says the actor in a diplomatic tone, “Frankly speaking, I do not know anything about Rakhi, as I have not watched it. But trust me; all serials are developed around similar situations. But the beauty and uniqueness of a particular story lies in the way in which it is presented and catered to the audience.”
Looks like it is ‘An eye for an eye’ as far as the concepts of the two stories go. Only time will tell if the brother-sister bonding in Veeranwali strikes a chord with the masses. But as for now, the whole unit of Veeranwali is having a blast working together, and as rightfully said by Samir, “The whole shooting environment in Chandigarh has been really amazing.”
Well, here's wishing the hockey coach good luck in winning over his lady love...
