Byeon Wooseok's personal security fined one million Korean won; judge rebukes actor as well

As per Korean news outlets, a private bodyguard and a security firm associated with Byeon Woo-seok have been fined for the inconvenience caused to passengers at the Incheon Airport in 2024. As we know, Lovely Runner aired last year, and Byeon Woo-seok became an instant star. A Seoul Court has fined the security team and also called out the actor for not managing his private schedule discreetly. They said it looked like he was “hosting a fan meeting” at the airport.

It seems today, Incheon District Court’s Criminal Division 6 fined bodyguard A and security team B, USD 730 each for violating the Security Services Act. It seems the team that was escorting the handsome star displayed force and restricted movements of other passengers at the airport. As per Article 15 of the said act, security cannot use force or prohibit ordinary citizens at such a public space. It seems a large number of fans gathered to see him off. The private team blocked the gates, shined flashlights on passengers’ faces and even checked tickets of some to prevent them from entering lounges. His bodyguard A repeatedly indulged in such activity.

As we know, schedules of Korean actors and idols tend to get leaked, and huge number of fans gather to see them. We have seen people running behind BTS members at airports. Judge Shin ruled that flashing lights on people’s faces who were not stalking the actor is a form of force. However, this was a first time offence so the extent of punishment was not too severe.

The judge also called out Byeon Woo-seok for openly carrying out his schedule and exposing himself to fans. They said the actor could have kept his travel plans confidential, hidden his face and chose a suitable route to the flight. However, he decided to meet all the fans who had gathered there at the airport.
