This week, the Box Office saw the release of two different genres, producer Vishesh Bhatt's directorial thriller
Murder 3 and the romantic
Jayanta Bhai Ki Luv Story featuring
Vivek Oberoi. With the continued success of
Race 2, Special 26 and
ABCD, these films had tough competition against them this past weekend.
The murder mystery,
Murder 3
saw a decent amount of footfalls these past few days with an average
collection of Rs. 4 Crores on its opening day. Unfortunately it wasn't
good news for the Bhatt camp as this was the lowest opening seen from
their popular 'Murder' franchise. It was quite disappointing as both
Murder 1 and
Murder 2 managed to rake in about 7 Crores on their first day. This mixed review remake of the Spanish thriller
'La cara Oculta' (The Hidden Face)
managed to bring in about Rs. 13 crores over the entire weekend. This
film is likely to fade into oblivion leaving its music on the lips of
many for the days to come.
We wonder whether the numbers reflect the fact that the Bhatt's lucky charm Emraan Hashmi was not a part of this project.
The
other release of the day was one that hold the power to either make or
break the career of a struggling actor. This
Vivek Oberoi starrer
Jayanta Bhai Ki Luv Story proved
to be a disappointment with a meager Rs 2-2.5 crores collection over
its first weekend. The film revolves around Jayanta, a Mumbai thug who
ends up falling for a highly educated girl named Simran, played by Neha
Sharma. With the lack of screen space, tough competition, lack of
promotion and mixed reviews we won't be surprised if the film bids adieu
fairly quickly in the coming days.
Though both the films did poorly considering the successful opening so far this year,
Murder 3 atleast managed to recover its budget and make better business than its competitor
Jayanta Bhai Ki Luv Story. With the promising
Kai Po Che starring television known face
Sushant Singh Rajput releasing this week we hope to see the cash registers chiming once again!
