The possibility of a third film in the Baahubali franchise has stirred excitement among fans, with producer KE Gnanavel Raja hinting at its development. While promoting his upcoming film Kanguva starring Suriya, Raja spoke about various sequels in the works, including Salaar, Kalki 2898 AD, and Baahubali 3. He shared that although the first two parts of Baahubali were released back-to-back, the team is now considering a third installment after a significant gap.
Raja's statement reflects his belief that sequels don’t always need to follow strict timelines to keep the audience hooked. He pointed out that several big projects like Kalki 2898 AD and Salaar are also planning their sequels after a pause, indicating a shift in how filmmakers approach franchise films.
However, Baahubali writer Vijayendra Prasad and lead actor Prabhas have previously downplayed the idea of a third part, suggesting that it might not happen. Even director SS Rajamouli, known for his visionary approach to cinema, has been cautious about confirming a direct sequel. In recent conversations, Rajamouli expressed a desire to expand the Baahubali universe through various other mediums like books, games, and animated series, rather than focusing solely on films. He believes that storytelling should evolve across platforms and mentioned his ambition to take the Baahubali saga to wider audiences through these formats.
For now, Rajamouli is occupied with his upcoming action-adventure film starring Mahesh Babu, which is still in pre-production. While fans eagerly await updates on this project, the Baahubali franchise continues to enjoy massive popularity. When Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion were released, they became instant cultural phenomena, smashing box office records and captivating audiences worldwide.
Whether or not Baahubali 3 materializes, it’s clear that the franchise remains close to the hearts of millions, with its impact lasting well beyond the original two films.
