Avinash Mishra reveals reason behind long break from acting after Bigg Boss 18: '..Nahi chhodunga'

After making waves in the Bigg Boss house and charming fans with back to back music videos, Avinash Mishra is back, this time with Ektaa Kapoor's 'Pyaar Se Bandhe Rishtey,' a project that feels both fresh and familiar to him. In an exclusive chat, the actor opens up about stepping into the world of digital storytelling, his love for grounded family dramas, and how life after Bigg Boss has made him more mindful about the roles he chooses. From reconnecting with his television roots to embracing new formats like YouTube, Avinash is all set to begin a new chapter, one that promises depth, relatability, and a little bit of everything his fans love him for.

Avinash, you’ve played intense roles before. How is this one different from anything you’ve done?

This is not a very different character, to be honest. It’s a very relatable character, and exactly what a family drama needs. Family drama wahi hona chahiye. I feel the kind of people you see in a regular household, because hota hai na, many times we present characters that are too unique. But for that, you need a different kind of storyline, something bahut hi unique type ka. This one is a storyline that has a very good family drama, family equations, and a love story. And how things mould over time, wahaan pe yeh characters kaise un cheezon ko tackle karte hain, and how they come up with a great love story and great bonding between the family people. So that is what it’s about. And mere hisaab se, this is what a family drama should be. So that people can relate. Jo meri mom dekhe toh bole, “Haan, ghar ka beta aisa hi hota hai.” That’s exactly what we’re trying to show. Kyuki yeh YouTube format hai and even we’re trying to bring that change the audience wants to see in society—something a little more realistic. So that is what the USP of the show is.

Your next project was widely anticipated ever since your stint in Bigg Boss came to an end. And while we’ve loved your music videos, what made you take this up for your acting comeback?

See, bahut saari cheezein hoti hain as an actor. You look at many aspects. First of all, the very first thing, the dates were available when they approached. And the second thing was, when you know the production house is really nice, you feel like saying why not? And then comes the character. When you know that this character is something that will interest you, it pulls you in. Plus, I was also missing my TV wali duniya, I mean the world of television. And this entire show is actually connected to that world, so I said yes, why not? It is a new format and a new platform, so you get to explore something fresh. And I have always said, I want to try every platform. Kuch nahi chhodunga main toh! Now that YouTube has also started, I said why not, let this be the first one!

Has there been any change in the kind of projects that are coming to you after Bigg Boss? And are you being pickier now?

Yes, I have been very very choosy right now. Yes, because now I have to take decisions in a more conscious way, what to do, what not to do. There are a lot of expectations. And a lot of things I personally want, ki main in cheezon pe apna mark chhod ke jaun. If I’m doing something, I know the audience is really anticipating it. So I want to do something that they watch and feel like, “Okay, he’s doing something new,” and it stays with them. The character, or the show. So obviously, I’ve been very choosy right now.
