Deepika Padukone is no longer a part of Kalki 2898AD. The makers had said the sequel would go on floors in 2026 as they're aiming for a 2027 release. Deepika Padukone plays the role of Sum-80 in the sci-fi action movie with elements of Indian mythology. She is the divine mother. One who births Kalki to fight the evil powers of Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan). Fans are wondering how will they replace the character. The makers announced on social media that they are parting ways with the actress. Terming Kalki 2898AD sequel as a special project, they said they need a committed actor.

The post from Vyjayanthi Movies, drew a lot of reactions. Many said the production house is headed by two women, Swapna Dutt Chalasani and Priya Dutt Chalasani. They would surely understand Deepika Padukone's concerns being a new mother. However, reports came up of how she wanted a hike in her fees for the sequel. It seems the actress demanded accommodation, food and travel expenses of her entourage that has around 25 people. Of late, we have heard makers and actors speak up about this entourage culture of top Bollywood actors that topple the budgets of many producers. Now, fans have shared a picture of the credits scene of Kalki 2898AD to highlight the subtle sexism of the makers. We can see all the male members of the cast being addressed as Sri. Telugu veteran star Brahmanandam is 'Padma Shri'. Fans said that seasoned veteran actress Shobana was also in Kalki 2898AD but there was no honorific before her name. In fact, Shobana is a Padma Bhushan, which is a higher title than Padma Shri. None of the actress had a title before their names, not even 'Garu' which is used for a senior.
