Anupamaa actor Rushad Rana reveals how ex in-laws studied his bank statements before he wedded his first wife

Rushad Rana who played the role of Aniruddh Gandhi on Anupamaa is married to the creative director of the show. He tied the knot with Ketaki Walawalkar in 2023. Rana had been single for a decade before that. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, he spoke at length about what went wrong in his first marriage. Rushad has been working in the TV industry since 1998. He was on the show Hip Hip Hurray. He told Kannan that his ex-wife was obsessed with his characters on TV. She adored his shows, and would record them for repeat viewing. He said it was a case of a fan marrying a star. 

Rushad Rana said they had been dating for a year or so. He said he was pretty transparent about what life was an actor to her. Rana said things changed soon after marriage. She kept on telling him to quit films and get a regular job. Her father too would bombard him with comments on how would he manage to support his daughter in a city like Mumbai with a seasonal job like acting. He said after a point this troubled him immensely. Rushad Rana said he was completely honest about his livelihood and earnings. He felt if her daughter had such issues, he should not have agreed to the marriage in the first place. His ex-father-in-law could have chosen a man from a more stable and conventionally attractive profession. 

He also said that his in-laws actually took a look at all his bank papers, and investments beforehand. It seems the marriage ended in a couple of years. Rushad Rana said his wife and in-laws were decent people, and did not demand an alimony from him. With the help of his family and friends, he rebuilt his career. In the same interview, he spoke about how Shah Rukh Khan and he bonded during the shoot of Veer Zaara. 

I will say this on camera, my bank statements were studied before the marriage happened, to see what kind of investments I have as an actor… There was absolutely nothing hidden.

He is now wedded to Ketaki Walawalkar. They met on a dating app but it was Anupamaa that got them closer. Their marriage in 2023 was attended by the whole cast and crew of the show.
