Aalisha Panwar: I Chose Meri Gudiya as I Wanted to Come Back as a Protagonist

Talented actress Aalisha Panwar who was last seen in Colors’ thriller show Ishq Mein Marjawan, will now be seen in a totally different avatar in Star Bharat’s upcoming show Meri Gudiya. Meri Gudiya is based on a special relationship between a mother and daughter and will feature Gaurav S Bajaj opposite Aalisha. The first promo of the show is already out and has built a lot of intrigue amongst the audience for a twisted storyline. 

We got in touch with Aalisha, who spoke about taking up Meri Gudiya, her character details & storyline and being approached for Naagin 4. 

The promo of Meri Gudiya looks very interesting and your part seems like the highlight of the show. Tell us something about the storyline and your character. 

In my last show I played an antagonist and my character was very appreciated and loved by fans. So after having played that character, I was keen on returning back as a protagonist and wanted to break that image. Fortunately, Meri Gudiya came my way and I think this was the perfect show for me to come back and I hope I’m able to do justice to the character. 

I’m playing Madhuri Gujral and she’s not a normal daily soap heroine who keeps crying and does unnecessary drama, but she has a layered character. She’s very emotional, lovely, chirpy and full of life. On the other hand, she’s also very brave and fights back when it comes to her family and close ones, especially when it comes to her child. 

The extent of her feelings for her child is that she breaks the law of nature to take care of her daughter, as you must have seen in the promo. In the show we have used a doll as a medium to show that love, usually the doll is used as a negative entity in horror shows and films, but this time we have used the doll as a positive element. I was approached for Naagin but nothing was fully decided whereas with Meri Gudiya everything was confirmed and I loved the story and my character. The whole story is high on emotions and it’s a very heart-touching story. When the story was narrated to me, I got goosebumps and had tears in my eyes. 

What kind of reactions did you receive after the promo was released?

Honestly I got great reactions from all my actor friends. They were amazed with the promo and the doll element and everyone is very freaked out after the promo. The best part was that even my male friends also called me and said that it was heart touching and they skipped a beat when they saw it. Everybody is keen on knowing what the story is exactly and me being dead in the story has totally intrigued people. 

You will be seen with Gaurav Bajaj for the first time, how is he as a co-star?

He’s a very nice human being and we both are comfortable shooting with each other. The best part is that he is actually going to be a father in real life, so I’m very excited to have him on board.
