The story revolves around a young boy's emotional plea to the Prime Minister of India, raising the issue of open defecation. Kanhu lives in the slums of Mumbai, and his life takes a serious turn after his mother gets raped due to the lack of sanitation facilities. At the core of the narrative is a heart-warming mother-son relationship.
Set in the backdrop of Mumbai's slums, the film narrates the hardships of the daily hurdles the people in slums go throughout the day. Understanding the basic needs of sanitation and a safe environment, the film features horrors of reality through a child's eye. And it is the innocence of the child which will catch your attention. However, did Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra do justice to the whole plot and storyline?

As we decode the intricate web of technicalities, all that we are left with is Simplistic and Effortless approach towards the social issues. While you observe closely, the film tackles 3 issues altogether - Sanitation in the slums, Sexual abuses on women and awareness of safe sex.
However, the film is unnecessarily stretched to almost 2 hours straight. Had it been a bit shortened by thirty minutes you won't have to endure the unnecessary plots. Hitherto, the film features few of the exceptional camera panning shots one can look forward to. The dialogues might be quite plain and simple but it does have some powerful impact on you.
The always dependable Anjali Patil delivers yet another natural performance. She is one underrated actress. Makrand Deshpande is wasted. Other cast members have given a good performance, especially Rasika Agashe.
In conclusion, the film caters an audience who can understand the everyday struggles of a common man who resides in slums and has to go through the realities featured in the film.
Meanwhile, the film might fail to essay the issues abruptly as the major reason remains that you were not able to connect with the storyline. And to justify that reason, you need to watch the film through the innocent eyes of a child; who tries to understand the harsh world with his capabilities and his thinking.
