She removed her ring and placed it on his palm officially calling off the relation. He tucked into his pocket.
Boy: Riyu, we're still friends right?
Riya (angrily): Arjun faaltu ki baatein mat karo
Arjun(defensively): fine! Bas confirm kar raha tha par...ab is ring ka kya karu main?
Riya: teri ring hai tu soch, tujhe kya karna hai
Arjun looked at her blankly: banwayi kisne thi?
Riya: ha toh propose kisne kiya tha?
Arjun: are had hai! ab banda propose bhi na kare?
Riya: sawaal maine kiya tha ya tumne?
Arjun: toh har cheez mein tedha jawab dena zaroori hai?
Riya grinned and snuggled closer: nahi! par mujhe tumhe irritate karne mein bahot maza aata hai
Arjun rolled his eyes and rested his chin on her head.
Arjun: ha of course, itni zaroori baat main kaise bhool sakta hun?
Riya: toh fir? Teri galti hai
He just closed his eyes and hummed as he pulled her closer to himself using her as a pillow and blanket.
Riya: are tum so kyun rahe ho?
Arjun answered in the same position: thak gaya hun, bahot kaam tha 2 dino se
Riya(concerned): toh room mein jaate haina, yaha sofa par comfortable nahi hoga
Arjun: are tu hi kaafi hai, aur kisi comfort ki zaroorat nahi hai mujhe
Riya smiled. She was about to go to sleep as well when Arjun's phone started ringing. Riya stretched a free hand and took his phone from the table.
Riya: Sameer hai
Arjun: usko bol subah main heart attack se mar gaya
Riya stared at him: tum subah ETF office mein hi the
Arjun: ha toh dopaher ko bol
Riya: abhi dopaher hi hai
Arjun: are yaar! Sone de na! tu baat kar kamine se
Riya rolled her eyes and answered: ha Sameer
Sameer: Riya? Arjun kaha hai?
Riya: woh Arjun na...kuch urgent tha?
Sameer: ha ek case aaya hai, use bolo ki M.G road par galaxy apartments ke flat no. 1211 mein pahunche. Ek murder ho gaya hai
Riya: oh ok
Sameer: bye!
Riya: bye!
Call disconnect
Riya: Arjun...murder
Arjun frowned as he opened his eyes: koi mujhe sone kyun nahi deta? Woh murda toh so gaya na humesha ke liye ab meri neend kyun bigad raha hai?
Riya shrugged. He sighed and detangled from her as he sat up straight and yawned. She gave his phone.
Riya: M. G Road, Galaxy apartments, flat no. 1211
Arjun: kiska murder hua hai?
Riya: woh nahi bataya Sameer ne
Arjun: theek hai, main jaata hun. Kal milenge
Riya: kuch chahiye?
Arjun hugged her: neend chahiye, kasam se agar iska khooni jaldi nahi mila aur ghar nahi gaya na toh main khooni ban jaunga
Riya laughed: ha fir tu kuch ghanto ke liye nahi humesha ke liye jail main pahunch jaayega
Arjun(walking towards the door): agar waha chain ki neend hai toh wahi sahi! I don't give a damn!
Riya: dhyaan rakhna apna
Arjun: ha
Riya: zinda rehna
Arjun: ha
Riya: aur hopefully ek piece mein
Arjun: ha meri ma! Aur kuch?
Riya: nahi...bye!!!
Arjun: bye!!
He left her house and headed straight to the crime scene. Riya locked the door and plopped back on the sofa, switching on the T.V to pass her time.
Next day,
High Court, court no. 4 -
A labourer stood as accused in the witness box.
Prosecutor: your honor, in saari baaton se yahi saabit hota hai ki Ravi ki laparwahi ki wajah se Mr. Gir ke business ka bahot nuksaan hua hai aur use is baat ka jurmaana bhi bharna padega!
Riya: objection your honor! Main prosecution ko yaad dilana chahti hun ki faisla sunane ka kaam unka nahi adalaat ka hai
Judge: Objection sustained
Prosecutor: your honor, saare saboot isi baat ko indicate karte hai
Riya: this is baseless
Prosecutor: then please give me proof
Riya picked up a stamp paper and passed it to the judge: your honor, Mr. Gir ki hi factory mein kaam karne waale ex safety in-charge Mr. Girish Pal jo is waqt Bangalore mein hone ki wajah se court mein present nahi hai unhone khud 1 saal se Mr. Gir ko warn kiya tha ki machinery purani hone ke kaaran usme bahot complications aa rahe hai aur agar inhe theek nahi kiya gaya toh ye ghatak bhi ho sakti hai! unhone Bangalore ke sessions court ke honourable magistrate Mr. Satyamurti Narayan ke saamne, bina kisi dabaav ke apna bayaan diya hai...
Prosecutor: objection your honor! Is witness ki prosecution ko koi jaankaari nahi thi
Riya: jaankaari dete toh aapke client unhe bhi dhamki dekar ya fir paise dekar chup kara dete
Shailesh Gir, the industrialist and owner of the factory was standing in the second witness box.
Shailesh: Ms Mukherjee!! You Are Crossing Your Limits!!!
Riya just looked at the judge.
Judge: Mr. Gir apni awaaz neechi rakhiye warna contempt of court ke liye aapko bahar kar diya jaayega
Shailesh glared at both of them.
Riya: your honor! Ravi ek labourer hai, us accident mein usne apna haath kho diya. Woh apni family ka ek lauta breadwinner hai.
Prosecutor: objection! Ye usiki laparwahi hai ki usne machine theek se operate nahi ki, is case ko ek typical ameer v/s gareeb ka mod diya ja raha hai
Riya: ji nahi! Girish 1 saal se factory ki machines ke baare mein complaint kar raha tha! aur (picking up a bunch of files from her table) ye woh saari reports hai jo usne banayi thi (she passed it on) aur usne apne resignation mein bhi saaf-saaf likha hai (taking another paper) ki safety in charge hone ke bavjud uske suggestions par gaur na karne ki wajah se woh yeh job chod raha hai (passing it on) aur your honor (taking a few other papers) ye company ke accounts aur inventory records hai, ye saari machines 20-25 saal purani hai aur inse saaf-saaf pata chalta hai ki Mr. Shailesh ne machines ko replace karna toh dur ki baat hai unke maintenance tak par ek rupay ka bhi kharch nahi kiya hai (passing them on) aur isi wajah se machines din ba din deteriorate hoti jaa rahi thi! Isliye Girish Ne Complaint Ki Thi! Iske Bavjud Mr. Gir Ne Koi Action Nahi Liya! Aur Finally Negligence Ki Wajah Se Woh Accident Hua Aur Ravi Handicap Ho Gaya! Negligence Ravi Ki Nahi Mr. Gir Ki Thi! The judge looked at the new pieces of information.
Judge: court apna faisla is mahine ki 27 ko sunayegi, tab tak ke liye (tapping the hammer) the court is adjourned!
Riya and Adira started walking out the court talking to each other.
Adira: ma'am lagta hai ye case bhi hum hi Jeetenge
Riya: ha, but it was expected. Gir ke allegations pehle se hi baseless the, uska paisa aur power mere aage kaam nahi karne waala
Adira: kya baat hai ma'am? You seem a little low
Riya walked down the steps: nahi yaar, woh kal na maine aur Arjun ne break up kar liya
Adira looked at her shocked. She knew they were talking about breaking up but hadn't thought they would actually do it. She looked at Riya. Riya's face was a little dull. Adira recalled the way Arjun and Riya had decided to fall in love, mv "in dono ka breakup 15 din bhi nahi tikne waala.
Adira: toh aap us baat ko lekar upset hai?
Riya: nahi upset nahi hun, bas ajeeb sa lag raha hai, anyway! Ab iski date toh 27 ko hai, usse pehle koi date hai?
Adira: woh meri diary office mein hi hai main dekh kar batati hun
Riya: theek hai aur...
Suddenly a chaos erupted. They automatically turned towards the noise. An inspector and a few havaldaars jumped out of a jeep and started firing shots in the air causing panic.
Adira: ye policewaale aise firing kyun kar rahe hai
Riya(cautiously): I'm not sure agar ye policewaale hai
Before they could realise anything else, the men ran towards them. The girls tried to run but the Inspector lunged at Riya. Adira tried to save her but a havaldaar manhandled her.
Riya: ARJUN!!! LEAVE ME!!!
Adira( struggling to free from hold): Riya ma'am!!
Riya struggled as the man dragged her. He swiftly put a handkerchief on her nose. Riya felt the strong chloroform sending her senses haywire. She tried to push his hand away but he was too strong and her failing consciousness didn't help either. The havaldaar threw Adira to the ground. Riya was thrown into the jeep just as she lost her senses and they sped off.
A crowd gathered immediately. A lady helped up Adira who had suffered a mild head injury.
Adira: RIYA MA'AM!
Her mind raced for solutions and her hand immediately went for her phone.
ETF office,
Conference room-
Arjun was reading a file or atleast pretending to. Sameer had noticed him a little off since the day before but had assumed it was tiredness.
Sameer: Arjun, everything okay?
Arjun: ha sab theek hai
Just then his phone rang. He was surprised to see Adira calling him.
Arjun: hello?
Adira: sir! Riya...Riya ma'am
Arjun's heartbeats went off the charts!: KYA HUA RIYA KO? Tum...Tum Ro Kyun Rahi Ho?
Hearing the statement Rathore snatched the phone and put it on speaker.
Adira(sobbing): sir...woh hum...office jaa rahe the...court se and...and kuch logon ne Riya ma'am ko...ko kidnap kar liya
Arjun: WHAT?!?!!?
Adira: ha, sir aap please kuch kijiye!!
Arjun: main..main aa raha hun!!!
Call disconnect.
Arjun(hyper): Sam main jaa raha hun...Riya...
Sameer: hum bhi aa rahe hai Arjun, kuch nahi hoga
The team didn't need any instructions. They sprang off their seats. Sameer drove like there was no tomorrow. Arjun jumped out of the car barely giving Sameer the time to apply brakes.
Rathore: Dammit! Arjun! Sambhal kar!!!
But Arjun had already ran away.
Ayesha: sir rehne dijiye, hume pata hai woh Riya ko lekar kitna possessive hai
Sameer: ha par agar use kuch ho gaya toh Riya ko kaun bachayega? Mera chacha?
On the other hand Arjun went straight to the small crowd that was still there surrounding Adira. She was sitting on a platform. Her face was tear-stricken. Her head injury had been tended too.
Arjun: Adira!!
His voice gave a new found hope and she sprang up.
Adira: Sir!
Arjun: Adira...Riya?
Adira: pata nahi sir, sab kuch itna jaldi ho gaya ki (the ETF too walked upto them by then) hume kuch samaj mein hi nahi aaya.
She quickly narrated the whole story tensing Arjun even further.
Sameer: tumne gaadi ka number dekha tha?
Adira: nahi, number nahi dekh paayi
Shree: kisi ka chehra?
Adira: baakhi sabka toh nahi lekin, us Inspector ka chehra achese dekha maine...
