Agreed. Just like we can keep our online status hidden, we should have an option to keep this streak hidden too.
Sometimes I just come to check PMs and don't feel like checking notifs, sometimes it's the other way round. Sometimes I just wanna lurk in the background and do nothing 😆

In short, this means the notification system can be updated by showcasing all notifications (without having to open the extra link) and the notification you view is no longer shown. This will avoid cluttering and will make it easier to view them.

A way by which we can have read( regular font ) and unread ( bold) notifications would be good.
Also if we can choose what we want to get notified about. Like a focussed inbox we have in some mail clients. I would prefer to see tagged and quoted posts so these notifications I would like to see by default. Then we can have the view all to see all types of notifications.

If the notification disappears then there will be no way to go back to it. We could have a way to delete notifications by choice though.

Agree. We should be given a choice whether we want it to be visible to others or not. Just like our online status and signature.

Well its the number of days you have visited the site daily without missing. When you miss a day you do start again at 0.
