Got some info about Bharat Ratna from the net

Bharat Ratna is India's highest civilian award.

The Bharat Ratna is India's supreme decoration and honour, awarded for the highest degrees of national service. This service includes artistic, literary, and scientific achievements, as well as "recognition of public service of the highest order." Unlike knights, holders of the Bharat Ratna carry no special title nor any other honorifics, but they do have a place in the order of precedence. Bharat Ratna roughly translates as 'Gem of India'.

The original specifications for the award called for a circular gold medal, 35 mm in diameter, with the sun and the Hindi legend "Bharat Ratna" above and a floral wreath below. The reverse was to carry the state emblem and motto. It was to be worn around the neck from a white ribbon. There is no indication that any specimens of this design were ever produced and one year later the design was altered.

The original statutes of January 1954 did not make allowance for posthumous awards (and this perhaps explains why the decoration was never awarded to Mahatma Gandhi), though this provision was added in the January 1955 statute. Subsequently, there have been ten posthumous awards. While there was no formal provision that recipients of the Bharat Ratna should be Indian citizens, this seems to have been the general assumption. There has been one award to a naturalized Indian citizen - Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, better known as Mother Teresa (1980); and two to non-Indians - Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan (1987) and Nelson Mandela (1990). There has been one instance of the award being withdrawn when in 1992, the award was posthumously given to Subhash Chandra Bose but withdrawn later due to a legal technicality. The awarding of this honour though, has frequently been the subject of litigation questioning the constitutional basis of such state awards.

the greatest award or honour is that Rafi sahab is alive in people's HEART, people remember him by his voice his smile or anything still he is a great legend for us.In comparion these honours from govt of india are just minor things as we can say they don't really care about great legends(sorry to say so but it's purely what i feel)

Rafi sahab is inside millions people's heart!!👍🏼 😳

Hell no. Rafi Saab just got a Padma Shree, which is the lowest of all Padma awards. Forget about Bharat Ratna. The govt. didn't even give him Padma Bhushan or Padma Bibhushan. Even film personalities like Rajnikant and A K Hangal got the the Padma Bhushan, but not Rafi Saab. Yesudas got the Padma Bhushan and not Rafi Saab. It really sucks.🤢

Paying rich tributes to Rafi in the the Daily Star, Bakul Sultan, a columnist asks why Rafi was given only a Padma Shri while some of his contemporaries received higher honours. Lata Mangeshkar received a Bharat Ratna.

I cant agree more to this. he should hav been given the bharat ratna. he is no less deserving than lataji.

thanx Babu for postng the article 😊 people need to knw the facts mentioned in the article. he deserves more than wht he got frm not just the govt but even us.

Disagreeing that Rafi was at par with Mukesh and Kishore Kumar, Sultan quotes Manna Dey, another great singer, who often said that "Rafi was by far the most versatile and gifted singer among his contemporaries".

.

the great M. Rafi was noway at par with these two or for that matter his contemporaries.....in an interview, MannaDa was speaking about his famous 'Padosan jugalbandi'. When the director approached him, and told him that he was supposed to lose in that song from Kishore K. He refused by saying, "How can I lose from Kishore?" And he kept quoting Rafi in reverence.

He still gets his due...and from me it will remain that way....I don't regret any state honours......do anybody!!!???

Every year one Hero gets the award. When will they exhaust all the heros and look to the actual heros who deserve these awards 😕

Can u beat that SRK got one and some of our legends did not 😕

2100 😭 seems tooo distant. By then HR's shishyaas will be getting the awards and then Rafi and others will be forgotten or consigned to the back of the archives

It is not the question of the year, the question is about us getting wise and putting the right decision makers in place, our generation has shown no inclination of doing so(heck we elected Govinda), and by the look of it the young generation is a step ahead in making wrong choices. And between us and the new generation we may not have a right decision maker in place for another century

So Rafisaab will have to keep on making way for talented people such has HR/Pritam or (hold your breath) maybe Rakhi Sawant for the coming few decades

sorry for taking this on a tangent, one of those days😉
