This is a write up of the Tamil film of 1965, which seems to be the very first big screen attempt to portray Karna. The name of the film is Karnan'.
Kunti floats away her new born baby in the rivers along with gems and jewels and also a saree of hers, which worn by anyone else will cause unbearable burning sensation. Adhirath and his wife take the baby to a sage. The sage, wanting to carry the baby, extends his hands towards him. The baby, thinking that the sage is in need of help, gives away his head chain to the sage. Impressed sage says that this child is a Danveer from birth and names him Karna.
Years later, Karna accidentally learns that he is an adopted child from his foster parents. On the other hand, we see Kunti crying thinking of her abandoned first born. Her friend Satyavati consoles her.

Duryodhanan comes into Bhanumathi's room and introduces Karna to be her Brother. (Here Bhanumathi is portrayed as a witty and smart woman and Dury-Bhanu are a loving and compatible couple)

Karna meets Dury and Shakuni. Shakuni is shocked on seeing his bare body and condemns Karna's act. Karna gets angry for their disbelief on his talent. Shakuni and Dury suggest that to cover this up, Karna has to learn Brahmastra by lying to Parasuram that he is a Brahmin. Karna refuses. Dury pleads and Karna agrees.

Kunti to Arjun tells about her dream that someone is trying to kill Arjun and she kills the person saving Arjun. Arjun says that Kunti has changed a lot after seeing Karna in the talent show. Kunti agrees and she feels bad that such a skilled warrior has chosen the wrong side.
A princess named Subhangi is riding a chariot and loses control of the horses. Karna saves her. They fall in love at first sight and share some romantic talks. By the time her parents come in search of her and take her. She turns to Karna and actions some clue of her identity and leaves.

Karna dreams of Subhangi and hugs Dury in half sleep. Karna tells the happenings to Dury and Bhanumathi. Bhanumathi decodes it but keeps it within her. She and Dury go to Subhangi's palace and seek the alliance. They agree assuming that Karna being Angaraj should be a Kshatriya and Karna gets married. Adiratha meets Subhangi's father and says that he is lucky to be his sammandhi, though born a charioteer. He gets furious and takes his daughter away. Subhangi declines but in vain. At Subhangi's palace, Karna suffers insults from his father in law and leaves to his palace frustrated. But Subhangi manages to escape from her palace and comes to Karna. Pandavas leave on exile. Karna's son Vrishasena is born.
Krishna comes in as Shanti Doot. Dury refuses. Vidur recommends but Dury insults him quoting Vidur's birth. Krishna stops Dury and praises Vidur's archery skills just to remind Vidur. Angry breaks his bow and walks away saying he will not take part in the war.
Krishna meets Kunti and informs that Karna is her first born. Krishna asks her to meet Karna and either bring him to their side or get the two boons.
Dury meets Sahadeva and asks for the best day to do the sacrificial prayer before the war. Sahadev confirms that its Amavasya day. Bhim condemns Sahadeva saying that its foolish to help the enemy. Sahadeva says that it is his Dharma. Draupadi seeks Krishna's help. Krishna performs amavasya rituals a day before. Surya-Chandra come together and seek clarification. Krishna says that because you two have come together, today is amavasya. They agree and leave. Pandavas complete the sacrificial prayer the same day.

After Karna falls down, Arjuna's arrows turn into garlands and fall on Karna. Krishna says that the benefit he gained out of charity is saving him. Krishna disguises to be a poor Brahmin and seeks the benefits of Charity. Karna agrees and plucks away an arrow from his body and gives his charity benefits in the form of a handful of blood. Krishna shows his Vishwaroop and blesses Karna with fame forever and mukthi. Arjun again pierces an arrow and Karna dies.
Kunti comes to the warfront and cries. Other Pandavas come in. Kunti reveals Karna's identity. Arjuna condemns Krishna for making him kill his own brother. Krishna criticizes Arjuna saying that an individual can not kill Karna, but he was killed but 6 others and Arjuna was the 7th. Subhangi dies on Karna's body. Dharma Devatha comes in and asks Kunti not to cry because she has lost one among her 6 sons but she has lost her only son and condemns everyone. Krishna consoles her. Karna joins Suryadev in heaven.
