Is Ek Din a magic realism romance?
Chapter Ten
Aarti smiled and asked him: Why not Ansh. If you really are interested and practice well, you will reach even greater heights than me. Whom have you come with?
Ansh: This is my house. So I stay here.
Aarti was wondering what she heard when Arpita came there.
Arpita: Surpised? Ansh is our son Aarti. He came into our life and brought a lot of happiness too.
Aarti: But I just wasn't aware of this at all. Just because I wasn't in this city you all have kept this important news hidden from me.
Yash (pulling Arpita's leg): Actually, initially I wanted to but Arpita was feeling too shy and embarrassed at the "third good news" that happened in our lives --- after we had thought our family was already complete --- isn't it?
Arpita starts smiling and Aarti could see a very happy Yash and Arpita along with their lovely three children.
Aarti: So how did Ansh develop this passion for music? I don't think Palak and Payal are too much into it ---- right?
Yash: Probably too much of it in the house during her pregnancy has resulted in his being exposed to it even before he was born. But yes, we are planning to develop this passion of his and slowly involve him in music in a big way.
Aarti was delighted.
She enjoyed her evening and got back to the Orphanage where she was to spend the night before leaving the following day.
She was keen on trying to contact Shobha Ma once more since she was in the same city. She wondered how she would be. It had been a long time since there was any news from the three of them.
She called her up once more.
As earlier, she did not get the number. She started believing that maybe they had shifted from this place to start life afresh after Pramila lost her child.
She lay down and went to sleep.

The next morning Yash and Arpita came to see off Aarti who had decided to settle down in that new city of hers now forever. She was surprised yet happy to find Ansh too with them.
Aarti: Hello Ansh, you have come with your parents all the way to see me?
Ansh: Yes, I even missed school today to do that.
Aarti: But that isn't too nice. Children need to go to school, study, learn and get educated first and then pursue all their hobbies in their free time.
Ansh made an apologetic face and Aarti immediately hugged him and said: But once in a way when you feel like meeting someone you love it is okay.
Ansh begins to smile in her hug and says: When will you come again?
Aarti: Hmmm --- let me think. In the next party you all throw. Next wedding anniversary of your parents? Is that fine?
Ansh: But what if we plan to throw a party on my birthday ---- will you come then?
Aarti: Of course I will Ansh. So when is your birthday?
Ansh: That's a surprise. But you should come for it.
Yash: Come on Ansh, Aarti needs to leave now.
And Aarti bids a good bye to all and returns back to her world of music after having enjoyed a few hours of warm hospitality and love of a few close people in her life.

Three months later
Aarti felt the need to go back to meet Ansh. She was getting this strong urge to see him. She decided to give them a surprise and plans her trip. She was on the verge of leaving when she gets a call from Yash's home.
The caller: Aartiji, please come immediately to Yash Scindhia's house.
Aarti: Why --- what happened?
The caller: I can't tell you over phone --- but please do leave immediately.
Aarti: I'll be there as soon as possible.
At the Scindhia Mansion
There was hustle and bustle everywhere ---- yet the environment was filled with grief. Silence prevailed but everyone was trying to get things arranged. There were visitors in plenty walking in and out of the house. The servants were busy attending to the needs of all and the air was filled with soft music.
Aarti stopped for a few minutes and wondered what the reason could be of that phone call and her instinct forcing her to make that visit.
She saw people walking out as she made her steps inside the compound. People recognized her and greeted her with a simple "Namaste" --- with folded hands. No words were exchanged.
Aarti reciprocated the same way and was too scared to even ask them about the reason for their presence there. She started feeling nervous of what awaited her inside. But she knew she had to be courageous and went ahead.
She had hardly placed her foot inside the main hall that someone hugged her. She placed her hands over this child's head as she felt a great connection with this kid and she saw it was none other than Ansh.
Ansh wasn't removing his head from her thighs as he held her tight. Aarti slowly tried to bend downwards and pushed him slightly away to sit next to him and look at him. He was crying.
Aarti wiped his tears and hugged him and even before she could ask him the reason her eyes fell on the huge picture of Arpita garlanded and kept there. Many people were seated in front of her and right next to her picture was Yash quiet --- pensive --- grieved --- devastated yet maintained calmness.
Aarti hugged Ansh tighter as tears began to roll down her eyes. It was too much of an overwhelming situation to be and she wasn't aware of the appropriate response that she should show at that point it time.
She kept Ansh in her hold for some time and then a servant came and took him away. Palak and Payal too weren't around.
Aarti got up and gathered the strength to move forwards towards the picture of late Mrs. Arpita Scindhia.
Everything had happened so suddenly that many people just flocked and were not in their mourning colour of white which had made Aarti wonder when she entered the mansion on the crowd that was moving in and out.
She feared and trembled as she was getting closer to Mr. Yash but she knew she could not be weak then. Finally she reached close to where Yash was sitting ---- staring at his wife's picture. His look was blank --- his mind was lost --- his face looked tired.
Aarti sat next to him. He was still unaware of her being there. Then with great difficulty Aarti placed her palms over his fore arm. Yash felt an emotion as he started to breathe heavily but did not look at who the person was. There was no need for him to. He knew it had to be Aarti though they had never felt a "touch" in the past. He maintained his cool but lowered his gaze from the picture of Arpita to the floor for he could sense his eyes getting filled with tears. Aarti too wasn't looking at him. She pressed him a little gently and then felt a tear on her palm as he moved his head towards her. Aarti was too scared to look at him. His world seemed to have crashed --- they were perfect as a couple and especially after the arrival of Ansh whom Arpita had very lovingly introduced to Aarti in her last visit.
Yash looked at Aarti staring downwards and said: Aarti ---- what shall I do now?
Aarti looked up at Yash and tears rolled down her cheek. She tried to say something but couldn't. She kept swallowing her emotions and Yash finally surrendered into her arms and began wailing.
