Part 34
Khushi continued to watch the sea stretched out before her, diamonds engraved in the rolling tides as it reflected the sun's light.
It was so beautiful.
"Arnav-ji?" she called, not turning around, her ears straining for his reply, only to be met with the swishing sound of the water in front of her.
Frowning slightly, she tried again, turning around this time, her breath hitching as her eyes met him, leaning down on one knee, a silver ring at the tips of his fingers, stretched out towards her.
Was he-?
Was he going to-?
Her breath hitched at the idea, her eyes captivated by his, her heart picking up under his intense gaze.
"Wha...?" she trailed away, watching as a small smile rose the tips of his lips.
"Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizaida," he began, feeling all the nerves suddenly leave him.
"I wonder how many times you have made my heart race, made it swell with something that I couldn't quite understand," he watched as she slowly treaded the distance between them, his other hand stretched out towards her.
"But I understand now, I know it's you, I know that no matter what it won't be able to live without you," slowly he took her hand, his eyes locked onto hers.
"I love you, Khushi," he whispered, loud enough for her to hear it, letting out a small chuckle at the happiness those words held. "I love you, more than I can say, but I want you to give me a chance," he said softly, "no, a lifetime for me to try and describe it to you."
Her eyes lowered slightly, watch as he took her hand, his fingers slipping between hers.
Slowly, she lifted her hazel orbs to look into his, watch as they glistened slightly, hear him take in a breath.
"I want to spend the rest of my life with you Khushi, will you-will you do me the honour of marrying me?"
She could feel her heart flutter, tears clouding her vision as she took in his words.
He wanted to marry her-
He wanted to marry her
What else was there to say?
"Y-yes," she said, her voice trembling with emotion as she smiled at him, her chin quivering, nodding, a bead of salt brimming over her lashes, "yes, of course."
She said yes
She said yes!
He could feel his lips stretch out into a wide smile, slipping the silver onto her finger, feeling the rushness of her pulse.
She swallowed as he leant his head down, feel his breath on her fingers, and then suddenly his lips, kissing the one with the ring on.
Looking up at her, he stood up, their gazes intertwining as he placed a hand on her cheek, bringing her closer, hearing her reply echoe throughout his mind.
He wasn't going to lose her-
They were going to be okay-
They were going to be happy
She placed her arm around his neck, and then her other, breathing into his neck as she felt his arms around her back.
"I love you, Arnav-ji," she whispered against him, his hand travelling to her hair as he nodded against her, her breath hitching as she felt his lips on her cheek, kissing it softly.
"I love you, today, tomorrow and always, Khushi, always."
They spent the rest of the day on the beach, refusing to part as she sat between his legs, her back pressed against his chest, their fingers laced together.
The seawaves continued to roll towards them, matting down on the golden grains as it darkened it slightly, bidding adeu, only for it to return every minute.
Placing his chin on her shoulder, he nuzzled his cheek into hers, his breath washing over it, causing them warmen, a faint blush appearing, adding to the roseyness of her cheeks.
Closing her eyes, she could feel the smile linger on her lips, taking in the feel of him against her, his arms secured around her, refusing to let her go.
Could she ask for anything more?
*************
In Dehli the atmosphere was happy, upbeat, positivity radiating through the Raizaida mansion, heard in every voice.
"So when are they comin back, pleaje," Mami asked at the dining table, biting into an apple.
"In a couple of weeks," Payal answered, smiling slightly at her mother-in-law, receiving half of one back.
"It seems so far..." Nani sighed, her voice trailing away.
She had missed her grandson and Khushi, their absence had been clear around the house and now all it waited was their return.
"Where is Anjali bitiya?" Mami questioned, frowning as she turned her head, cocking it to the side.
"Anjali bitiya is upstairs," Hari Prakash pitched in, placing down a steaming plate at the dining table where the three ladies were sitting.
Opening her mouth to say something in reply, Mami only shut it, the chiming of the doorbell rendering her voice null as Hari Prakash sped away to open it, letting in an air of coldness as the devil strode into the house.
Placing a wide smile on his face, his eyes darted around the room, settling on Payal as she turned her head away from him.
Where was his Khushi-ji?
"Damaad-ji," Nani greeted him, standing up at his arrival, not noticing the annoyance in his eyes as he bent down to touch her feet.
Was Khushi-ji going to live?
"Payal..." Shyaam said, his eyes flashing to her again, "is-"
"I think Di is waiting for you upstairs, Shyaam-ji," Payal said, dismissing him, taking a pakora in front of him, her eyebrows raising as she waited for him to leave.
"Go, Damaad-ji," Nani said, nodding at him.
He could feel the fury growling at the back of his throat, marching up the stairs, his mind filled with images of his Khushi-ji, his eyes flickering with lust.
Barging open the doors of his room, he watched as Anjali spun around, beaming up at him as she pulled him into a hug.
"You're back," she said, not noticing how he had not returned the embrace.
"I'm back, Rani Saiba," Shyaam replied, exposing his teeth.
"I'm so glad," Anjali shrilled, gasping slightly as she said in an excited voice, "did you hear? Khushi-ji, she's completely fine, they'll be hope in two weeks, did you hear?"
Shyaam's eyes widened, the spur of red material mixed with blackness flashing through his mind as he smirked.
He had waited for that.
And now-
Soon-
Very soon-
Khushi-ji was going to be his-
Her new life-
"Is mine," he whispered to himself.
*********************
"Red," Khushi replied, sitting cross-legged on the bed as she received a shaking of the head from Arnav, leading for her to pout slightly.
They were testing each other on how much they knew each other and were now on favourite colours.
"You do love red though,Di said!" Khushi argued, watching as he stiffled a chuckle at she exasparated.
"Only on you," he replied.
Ah.
There was the blush.
He watched as she dropped her eyes, taking in the deepness of the dress she had worn today, knowing she had worn it for him.
Taking her hand in his, he could feel the coldness of the silver on her finger, smiling at it.
Khushi followed his gaze, the corner of her lips rising.
Remember this ring goes straight to the heart,' Buaji's voice reminded her.
He could feel her moulding her hand to his, her palm placed against his, taking in the perfection of the feel of them clasped together.
"Khushi..." he whispered, watch as she raised her hazel lamps to look into his.
It was now completely dark, the moon lit as it glowed against the blue curtains, veiling the balcony.
He could feel his body shifting closer to her, captivating her beauty as his eyes lingered on her, leaning in to press his lips to hers.
He should've expected the interruption-
A sudden beeping broke them apart, making Khushi jump as she snapped her head to the side, the laptop beeping again, voicing a notification.
Trying to catch her breath, she looked to him, her skin tingling as her gaze dropped to his lips, her cheeks heating up.
"Again?" she heard him say, opening his eyes as he took in the laptop perched on the table, trying his best not to curse at it as he got off the bed to retrieve it.
Khushi closed her eyes, attempting to slow down her racing heartbeat at his distance, only to have it speed up once again as she felt his lips on her cheek, snapping her eyes open as he stole a quick kiss.
"I...I..." she stuttered as her eyes connected with his, her heart flutterng as he gave her a flawless smile, turning back around to tend to the laptop.
Breathe Khushi, breathe' she instructed herself, waiting for her heart rate to go back to normal before speaking.
"I, er, what-who was that?" she asked, watch as he gazed intensely at the white screen that was lighting up his face.
"No one," he sighed, shaking his head as he closed its lid.
He looked up at her, a mark of worry in his eyes, only for him to mask it, disguising it.
But she had seen it there.
"What's wrong?" she said, standing up as she walked towards him, frowning, watch as he swallowed, "i-is everything okay?"
"Everthing's fine, it's just," he took in a deep breath, pushing the laptop away from himself, running a hand through his hair, "I'm just waiting for this offer..." shaking his head, he stood up, his eyes tightening.
"What offer?"
"I'm waiting to sell some designs, an outlook on western meets middle-eastern, but-but I haven't heard from a single client."
She could feel her chest tightening at his worry.
"Hey! I'm sure you'll get one," she said, shaking her head at him, "I mean, your clients could just be thinking about it, nothing more."
She watched as he blinked, his eyebrows pulling together as he took in her words, "I guess, but-"
"Stop worrying, I'm sure your designs are fine," she said gently, her heart swelling as he nodded.
"We worked on them for days...sent them for analysing..."
"So there's nothing to be worried about," she smiled, feeling hers widen as he returned it.
Stepping forward slowly, she watched as his body stiffened his eyes looking down at her questioningly, only for them to widen as she pressed her lips into his cheek, feeling her smile against his skin.
Pre-cap:
Closing his eyes, he stepped slowly around the marble floor, taking her with him, her hand placed on his shoulder, dancing to the soft chimes of the piano, feeling everything else fade around them.
