Chapter 14: Awkward.
"Ramia, can we please go eat something, it's 2:30!" Louis said exasperated. "Brother, you're spoiling the fun! I never get to shop like this is Monaco. You can go eat if you want." She said. "OH SHIT!" Khushi exclaimed. "I had to take lunch for Arnav and all." She remembered. "Khushi, can't we ask them to order?" Ramia asked. "I have to go home once. Arnav's medicines are in my cupboard and I am not letting them peep into my cupboard." Khushi said. Ramia's shoulders sagged. "Alright." She said sadly. "How about I take lunch home for them and you two finish your shopping and come back. I am tired anyway." He said.
Khushi thought for a moment. Louis wants to take food for Arnav? Might be a good thing, right? They could get to know each other. Couldn't hurt. "Okay." She said handing him her keys. "Do not let those two snoop around my cupboard. Payal will help you I'm sure." She said. "Got it." He said. Khushi bought some take away and handed everything over to Louis. They decided to drop Louis home and go to the other mall. Ramia was getting restless.

"Arnav," Armaan said slouching on the bed near him. "Dude what they were saying--"Armaan man! Thank you so much for saving me, but I really don't want to get into this again."
"I understand," Armaan said. "I get it, really, but just think about one thing. Khushi gets married to Louis and moves away to Monaco. How many times a year would you see her?" Armaan asked.
Arnav narrowed his eyes. "What are you getting at?" he asked.
"Nothing. Just tell me, how many times?"
"I will regularly meet her?"
"Are you crazy? She'll be the princess and soon to be queen of Monaco! You will meet her like once a year if you are lucky!"
Arnav was silent. Armaan was right. He couldn't believe NOT seeing Khushi. It would be so difficult.
"Shit." Arnav uttered.
"Exactly, and if you tell her that you love her and she says she doesn't feel the same way then what?"
"Then she'll feel sad for me. But she won't love me? And it will be all awkward!"
"But Arnav you anyway won't be able to see her. Your friendship will not be the same if she moves away! So why not give it a shot? Atleast you would know. Atleast you could move on."
Arnav was silent. It made sense. But how could he? He understood what Armaan wanted to say but he was just too scared. He didn't want to spoil it. He had tried to tell Khushi once or twice and it had ended up horribly.
"Look Arnav, I know how much Khushi means to you. But I also know how much you mean to Khushi! Khushi was on a date in Paris when she heard you had a small accident. She came down immediately. She left Louis, for you!" Armaan tried to explain. He really wanted him to confess. Atleast he could move on if she said no!
"Armaan don't put it like that. It's not true. Khushi came down because she felt guilty for leaving me alone. I was in surgery. If it would have been anything else, she wouldn't have come. It's not so easy. I don't want to hurt her."
"Arnav you have to live your life too! Everything is not about Khushi! This is your life. You have to move on. You have to tell her." Armaan said frustrated.
"What if she says yes? Imagine your life then!"
"She won't say yes."
"Then you can move on, god dammit!"
Arnav was quiet. He just didn't understand what to do.
*Doorbell Rings*
"I'll go see who's come."
Armaan went outside and opened the door. "Oh Great." He muttered under his breath. It was Claire. Again. He had a certain dislike for Claire from the very beginning. She had a tendency to ruin things really fast.
"Hello to you too Armaan," she said entering the house.
"How did you know where Arnav was?" he asked. "OH, I forgot, his smell must have led you right here, you Bi--"Mind your tongue!" she said glaring at him. She started looking around trying to figure out where Arnav was. "Can't smell him anymore?" Armaan snorted. "Who is it Armaan?" Arnav called out. "Your pet!" Armaan shouted back. Arnav chuckled. He understood it was Claire.
"Hi Arnav," Claire said looking innocently at him. She sat down by his bed and held his hand, sympathy glimmering in her eyes. "How are you doing?" she asked. Armaan smirked. "I'm okay." Arnav said. "How come you're here?" "I came to invite you hon. I am having a small get together at my house day after tomorrow. Just for old times sake. Maybe your guardians will allow you to come unlike Graduation." She said. "OH. What time?" "9:30pm." She said. "I'll be there." He smiled, "Anyway, I haven't met everyone is so long." "But Arna--"You too Armaan." Claire said turning around. "We do have a lack of clowns you know?" she said smiling at him. He smiled back gritting his teeth. "I don't talk dog Claire, all I could make out was Bow-ow bow-ow!" he hissed. "Let it be Armaan." Arnav said dismissively. Claire rolled her eyes.
*Doorbell rings again*
"Oh God, finally Khushi got us food!" Armaan said over-taking Claire out of the room. He opened the door saying, "I was starve--OH. Louis?" he said opening the door. "Hi Armaan." He said. "Come on in." he said. "I got food for us!" Louis said holding the take away packet up. "OH YAY!" Armaan said taking it from him hand. "Smells good!" he said. "Arnav's inside, go on, I'll heat it up and get the plates." Armaan said.
Louis stood there for a few seconds before walking on towards Arnav's room. Maybe I could just talk to him. Get to know him. After all he is Khushi's best friend. Maybe I was overthinking everything. I should give him a chance. He can't be all that bad.
"OoO La La." Claire said under her breath and she saw Louis. "And who might you be?" she asked. "Louis Grimaldi," he said. "Louis who?" she asked. "Oh, I'm sorry, I don't even know you." He said courteously. "Oh, I'm Claire," "You must be one of Khushi's friends." He said. "How do you know Khushi?" "Umm-- we met in Paris actually-- and --umm-- I am just here on vacation!" he said abruptly, how would he explain their relationship. "OH, you two are seeing each other?" she asked. "Kind of." Louis replied subtly. Claire's eyes were wide open. Interesting. She thought. "Would you care to join us for lunch?" Louis asked politely. "I would love to!" she said jumping at the offer. There is nothing like watching a conversation between Arnav and Louis. This has to get interesting. She thought.
The two walked to Arnav's room. "Louis." Arnav said sitting up. "Hi," Louis replied, checking him out. "Hi, where is Khushi?" he asked. Claire just stared at the two. This is going to get very interesting.
"She is still shopping with Ramia. Girls, I tell you." He commented. Arnav smiled. "And Ramia would be?" Claire asked. "My sister." Louis said. "Come, sit." Arnav said. Louis nodded and sat on a chair close by. Claire too sat beside him. There was something intriguing about Louis.
"Claire what are you still doing here?" Arnav asked watching Claire staring at Louis like he was a piece of meat.
"Louis invited me to eat with you'll." Claire replied without even looking at him. Oh God, Louis is so handsome and look at that watch. He must be filthy rich. Khushi has great choice in men, I must say. She thought.
"So, Louis, what do you do for a living?" she asked. Arnav smiled furtively. Nothing really. Arnav said in his mind.
"Umm-- actually-- I-- how should I put it-- I am actually-- a" Louis stumbled with words. He was very polite and humble. He hated being a prince but he had accepted it now. He wanted to be someone else. He wanted to be unique. He had always envied people with a normal life, with friends and family who loved them. Louis had grown up in a very disciplined manner. He had missed out the joys of the world. "He is a prince." Arnav completed the sentence.
Claire who had just taken a sip of water choked. "What did you say?" she asked. "A prince." Arnav enunciated. Claire's jaw dropped. "Of Monaco." Louis said looking slightly embarrassed. "Wow." She said. Khushi surely hit jackpot! No wonder she dropped Arnav. Huh. She doesn't deserve a prince. She deserves ordinary. Extra-ordinary is for me. Claire. Her thoughts ran. "Like Khushi's prince?" She asked Arnav. Arnav's expressions were saying so much. He was so agitated with Claire.
"Louis do you know Khushi has been waiting all her life for you?" Claire asked. "Claire!" Arnav said glaring at her. She was about to spill everything and Arnav didn't know how much Louis knew and how much Khushi would like him to know yet. "Oh Arnav, let it be, they are seeing each other!"
"Yes, please, tell me?" he asked. Claire gave the whole description of what she wanted in a man! Louis smiled. Arnav frowned. Claire was having fun.
"So Louis, how did you and Khushi meet?" she asked. Poor Arnav had to sit through the whole story from Louis' point of view again. He had to listen to Louis describe Khushi with words like beautiful', smart' and adorable'. Arnav kept looking at the door for Armaan.
"Oh that's great, you know she ran away from here because Arnav ki--"FOOD!" Armaan entered at the right time. "The pasta smells really good!"
Arnav glared at Claire and then at Armaan. He signaled Armaan to kick Claire out. She was going to ruin everything. Arnav wasn't sure if Khushi had told Louis about the kiss and if Claire blurted it out before Khushi got a chance to tell him, this could lead to a lot of drama.
They all began to eat. Claire started from where she left off, "So I was saying--"Louis, do you like Dubai?" Arnav asked. Armaan took the cue and understood that they weren't supposed to let Claire talk to Louis. "Yes, it's an amazing place. And thank you for suggesting that Hotel, it is surely the best!" "Oh, where are you staying?" Claire asked. "At the Swiss Hotel," Louis said. "Oh I stay just across!"
Arnav hid his face in his palms. This is not good. He texted Khushi - You need to come home. NOW.
"So Arnav, tell me about your plans? Khushi tells me you will take over your father's business, what does he do again--?" he asked. "He has a hotel business." Arnav said, "And yes, I may take over his company." He said. "It seems like you don't want to?" Louis asked.
Arnav looked perplexed. Yes, I don't want to but how does he know? Did Khushi? No, I don't think so. That's weird, how did he--? "Your disinterest in his company shows in your lack of detailed knowledge." Louis stated.
"Okay, anyone wants a beer?" Armaan asked. "Yes please!" Both Arnav and Louis said at once. Armaan looked at the two and said, "Cool."
Arnav's Phone buzzed. Sorry. I was trying out pants. Are you okay? What happened?
Arnav rolled his eyes. Khushi and her questions, sigh. Can't she just come? Arnav had injured his right shoulder and so it was difficult for him to type. Claire here. Talking to Louis about us.
*Doorbell Rings Again*
In a few minutes, Payal enters the room. "Oh, Hi Payal." Louis says relaxing a little. Claire had started to irritate him also.
What is Claire doing at my house? And so what if she's talking to Louis about us? Arnav's phone buzzed again.
Did you happen to tell Louis that we kissed? He replied.
Immediately he got a reply. OH MY GOD. Kick her out. NOW. She replied.
Thought so. Come here asap. Arnav replied.
"Payal, I wanted to invite Aakash and you too. I'm having a small party at my house day after tomorrow. Please come," she said. Payal fake smiled too. As if. She thought.
"Louis, you too! Khushi will obviously be coming. You can come with her, if Arnav isn't already--"Claire." Arnav warned. Claire understood that she was crossing her limits. She had seen the anger in his eyes before whenever she offended Khushi. "I mean, you and Khushi could come together." She told Louis. Louis felt a little awkward before he truly couldn't understand what they were all up to?
"Sure, I'll be there." He said smiling. "I hear Princes don't go back on their word." She said. "I won't," Louis smiled awkwardly. "I'll be there." He said. Payal sighed. Armaan chuckled. "I'll see you all there." She said getting up to leave.
"Payal went to drop Claire to the door to make sure she doesn't come back. "Nice meeting you, Louis." She said leaving. Arnav shook his head in annoyance. Louis smiled at her.
"What the hell were you doing in there?" Payal barked as they reached the door.
Almost there. Arnav's phone buzzed. Arnav rolled his eyes seeing the text. Now she's here?
"I was just talking to him. Seems like you'll haven't told him about Arnav and Khushi's intimacy." She smiled wickedly.
"Just shut up. How does this concern you?"
"Oh it does." She said.
"Claire. Leave."
"I am." She said leaving.
