Chapter 13 : Doubts
Khushi had just finished making breakfast for Arnav when her phone rang. "Hi, Good morning!" she said.
"Good Morning!" Louis replied sleepily.
Khushi looked at her watch, 9:00am.
"One second." She said. "Arnaaav!" she called out. "Breakfast is ready. Come on the table."
"Yes, tell me?" she said keeping their plates on the table.
"What's the plan today?" Louis asked.
"Erm- you tell me? What does Ramia want to do?" I asked. "I am sorry, I haven't been able to give you'll too much time but now since Arnav has moved in, Armaan and Payal will be here with him so I can spend more time with you." She said.
"I will be looking forward to that." He said.
"One second." She said again. "Arnaaav!" she shouted again. "Breakfast!" When he didn't reply Khushi said, "Louis, just ask Ramia what she wants to do and get ready. I'll pick you guys up in an hour. I have to drag Arnav out of his bed now. Bye." She said.
Louis kept the phone. He had been really disturbed lately. "What are we doing today brother?" Ramia asked.
"What do you want to do?"
"Can we go shopping?" Ramia asked.
"Yes, ofcourse." He said.
"Why do you look so disturbed early in the morning?" she asked.
"Don't you find it awkward that Arnav is staying at Khushi's house when her mother is away?" he asked.
"Yes, it is awkward but maybe that's how friends are. We never had any, remember?" she said.
"Yes, but it still seems so wrong. She just told me that she has to go drag him out of bed!" Louis said. "Brother! I think you are over thinking now. She likes you. If she wouldn't why would she call you here? And anyway, Arnav is such a gentleman; they must trust each other a lot."
Louis still had his doubts. He didn't like their closeness. He had seen the way Khushi took care of him at the hospital and the way Arnav looked at her. There was definitely something between the two. Maybe Khushi didn't know it, maybe not even Arnav but if Louis didn't take care of it, he knew he would lose her forever.
"Arnav!" Khushi shouted barging into his room. He lay in bed shirtless, deep in his sleep. "Get up." She said shaking him. "Khushi..." he whined. "Let me sleep. Go away." He said covering his face with the pillow. "I made breakfast for you. Get up please. I need to leave in an hour and I am not even ready!"
"Go get ready then!" Arnav said sleepily.
"Arnav, I need to give you medicine and I know if I go away you won't eat. It's your first day here and I need to make sure you're comfortable." She said.
"Khushi Singhania, I am not a guest here. I have come here many times and I know where things are kept. Go do your thing and let me sleep!" he said.
"Arnav, if you don't get up, I'll put water on you!" she said. Arnav chuckled a little and didn't get up. Khushi didn't leave. She knew if she left he wouldn't wake up before afternoon. She took the jug of water and slowly started to sprinkle water on his face. She wanted to pour the whole jug but his bandages would get wet. The droplets of water irritated Arnav and he had to get up.
"I knew I shouldn't have agreed to stay over." He said sitting up in bed. Khushi laughed. "Ha. Ha. Ha." Arnav said sarcastically. He was really sleepy! "If you don't wake up on time, that's what I'm going to do." She said. "Oh really?" he said slowly getting up. "Yes!" she said. Arnav grabbed the jug from her hand and emptied the water on her head.
"OH MY GOD!" Khushi yelled.
"Arnav dammit!" she scolded. Arnav laughed watching her give him an exasperated look. "I am not sparing you, Arnav Singh Raizada, I'm just waiting for you to get better! I will torture you more than you can imagine!" she said stomping off.
While Khushi got ready, Arnav ate his breakfast. He barely ate it.
"Khushi!" Arnav said when she came out drying her hair. "The omelet sucks!" "Eat it." Khushi said, still pissed. "Atleast give me edible food?" he said. "Arnav, I am not a cook okay? I will try and make it better tomorrow!" she said. "So you'll give me omelet again tomorrow?" he asked frowning. "This is NOT a HOTEL!" she said gritting her teeth.
"Gosh Khushi! I was better off at home, myself." Khushi ignored him. She sat down beside him and took a bit of the omelet and immediately spat it out. "Oh God it sucks!" she said wiping her mouth, "How did you manage to eat half?" she said disgusted. Arnav smiled at her innocence. "I thought you'd feel bad!" "Cornflakes?" she asked. Arnav nodded. She pulled out cornflakes and milk and they both had to eat that. "Please never make omelet again." He said. "Never." Khushi agreed.

Khushi left as soon as Armaan reached. "I'll get you guys lunch!" she said. "Cool!" Armaan said.
Payal and Aakash came by shortly. Arnav wasn't happy. All he could think about was Louis and Khushi spending time with each other while he had to sit and listen to the others convince him to fight for his love.
What should I fight for? If Khushi loved me then there would be something to fight for, but she doesn't. She loves Louis, he is her dream man, and I am just the best friend! How do I make these people understand! Arnav just couldn't take it any longer.
"Guys, can you just let it go?" he asked.
"Arnav, we understand your situation, but I think Payal is right too!" Aakash put forth his point of view.
"What? Why are you even so nice to me? Don't you have anything to say?" Arnav asked.
"You aren't that bad." He said sadly.
"I am the best, just by the way!" Arnav said confidently. Something that hadn't changed was Arnav's mindset. He was always right. That's what Arnav believed and preached. He didn't care about anyone else's opinion!
"If you are the best then why should Louis take Khushi away?" Payal said, still adamant on her word.
"Payal why do you keep bringing this up. I swear I won't speak to you guys if you talk about it again. I have accepted it and I want you people to do the same. PLEASE, for my sake, let it go!" he said.
"Fine!" Payal said. "Arnav then you can be the maid of honor and Khushi's wedding. I am going to pretend that nothing happened." She said.
"Payal, you promised!"
"Yes, I did. So that's why I won't be attending her wedding. You can tell her whatever you want and be her maid of honor!"
"Maid of honor is a girl!"
"NO Arnav, Maid of Honor is the bride's best friend, which is usually a girl, but I am not her best friend and I am no longer honest to her either! You can fake your smile, drink and celebrate on her wedding but being your friend I can't see you do that. I can't sit and watch your heart break into 10,000 pieces and just keep shut, especially when Khushi doesn't even KNOW!" Payal said everything in one breath.
Arnav didn't know what to do. Why did I tell her anything? She just doesn't get it. Khushi will feel so bad for the rest of her life. She will never be able to be happy with Louis. She won't talk to me. Everything will be awkward and I have already seen a trailer of that! I can't go through with this. I can't say anything.
"Okay." Arnav said. "I'll be the maid of honor! I'll make sure she's always happy. I'll be her best friend for as long as she needs me. I want to see her happy Payal. That's all I want!"
"But Arnav--"Payal," Aakash stopped her. "I think he's made his decision." He said. Payal looked at Aakash. Aakash looked back at her. They were both helpless. Payal didn't say anything else.

Khushi was having a great time with Louis and Ramia. She took them shopping. Louis bought both of them dresses and shoes. Ramia had gone crazy looking at all those dresses. She bought sunglasses, bags, cosmetics, dresses and her very first pant! She was so excited. Louis wanted to spend sometime alone with Khushi but Ramia would pull Khushi along everywhere. Louis would just follow. Shopping with two girls had become a headache.

Armaan sat quietly throughout the whole conversation. He needed to talk to Arnav alone. He couldn't talk now. Armaan had always been the closest to Arnav. He always told Arnav everything he thought and the two always had a great time together. Armaan had also had a lot of family drama and Arnav had helped him through everything. They knew perfectly how to make everything comical. They lightened the mood every time it got serious and Arnav looked at Armaan for help now. Armaan looked at Arnav too.
"Let's talk about your wedding Payal!" Armaan said abruptly changing the topic. "What?" Payal said in awe. Arnav smiled sheepishly. "Don't change the topic!" Payal said. "Why not? Eh Aakash, propose already dude!" Armaan said making it really awkward for the two. "Guys, I don't have time for all your pranks right now. I'll come back later. I have an interview in an hour." Aakash said. "Cool." Armaan said. One down, one to go. After Aakash left Payal kept thinking about his abrupt departure.
Does Aakash want to propose? Is all this just a fling? Will he ever propose? We haven't really spoken about our future. Maybe he wants to take it slow. But-- how slow? I mean we are 22. We could wait till we get a job and all but we have to talk about this. I should go and talk to him. She thought. "Guys, I'll come back in a while." She said leaving too.
