Movie Review:GRAND MASTI Is STUN-NING Adult Comedy

Overall this should get audience in big numbers in small centers and male dominated crowd all over. Film is another addition to adult comedies like KSKHH and should do decent business at the box office. Masses will lap it in a big way!

GRAND MASTI Is STUN-NING Adult Comedy

Pluses:

Riteish Deshmukh is best of the lot, Aftab & Vivek are decent, such on the face hilarious vulgar jokes give shock and laugh at same times

Minuses:

lazy direction, 10 minute too long 2nd half, poor production values, boring songs

Critic Rating:

3/5

Business Rating:

3.5/5

Verdict:

Watch it if you can digest extreme limits of vulgarity!

Detailed Analysis:

Director Indra Kumar gave some big hits in 90's with top stars i.e. "Dil", "Beta", "Raja" and "Ishq". He reinvented himself with turn of century after debacle of "Aashiq", "Mann" and "Rishtey". After making sequel of "Dhamaal", he is back with "Grand Masti", another sequel.

As film promises through the promo, it has only and only adult jokes executed in most disgusting manner. Where even words like "stunning", prasad" and "paayal" become the most hilariously vulgar connotations. If that is not enough, treatment and representation are even gross. But credit should be given to writers Milap Milan Zaveri and Tushaar for keeping the pace fast and loaded with gags.

Film tells the story of three friends who make a dash back to college after being starved for sex in boring married lives. And then they find "rose mary marlo" (yup, you get it right!), three girls related to deadly principal of college who is actually impotent. Film is more about screenplay rather than story.

Performance wise Riteish stands tall and delivers yet another performance after consecutive hits like "Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya" "Housefull 1 & 2", "Dhamaal", and "Double Dhamaal". He is the only one who never goes overboard. Aftab is decent and barring few scenes, Vivek Oberoi tries best not to overact. Kainaat Arora to Maryam Zakaria to Bruna Abdullah, all three play seductresses with ample body show. Manjri Phadnis, Sonalee Kulkarni and Karishma Tanaa fit the bill. Suresh Nair is good and other supporting cast does the job.

Music is a big letdown as the direction. Both department suffer from laziness. Beyond the script, there is no effort to take the film to another level. Background score is tacky and so is editing especially towards the end. Camerawork is all about showing off some real vulgar stuff without any taste.

Overall this should get audience in big numbers in small centers and male dominated crowd all over. Film is another addition to adult comedies like KSKHH and should do decent business at the box office. Masses will lap it in a big way!

Go for this one if you are not faint hearted as far as adult comedy is concerned !

Grand Masti Is Fourth Best Opening Of 2013

Friday 13th September 2013 11.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Grand Masti has take the fourth biggest opening of the year in the morning shows in terms of occupancies. Basically it is the best opening of 2013 after Chennai Express, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Race 2 all three big budget films.

The opening is the fourth highest but the screen count is the eighth highest so whether the first day collections comes out fourth highest of the year remains to be seen. If the screen count was in same position as the opening then it was 100% guaranteed that it would record fourth highest opening day of 10 crore nett plus.

It should still go over 10 crore even with a lower screen count as the higher collections should take it over the films which had wider releases.

Grand Masti Has Very Good Opening

Friday 13th September 2013 11.00 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Grand Masti had a very good opening with collections around 60-65% on average. At places the film opened to full or near full houses. The collections were very strong in major cities of Gujarat and Maharashtra while collections in the East were lower comparatively.

The film was banned in Punjab and Haryana until late on Thursday when the ban go lifted so with no show listings in east Punjab saw a mixed opening with some theatres opening well and others not so well. Overall it was a strong start.

The film will put up a very solid first day but still growth will be important for this film as the genre has such a short life span and collections do come down quickly.

B.O. update: 'Grand Masti' fetches thunderous start!

By Taran Adarsh, September 13, 2013 - 14:21 IST

GRAND MASTI has embarked upon a solid start everywhere. The morning and noon shows were packed to capacity at several centres, while the occupancy was in 60% to 70%+ range at other places. The film has had one of the best starts of the year. The other two releases, JOHN DAY and HORROR STORY, got completely marginalized by the GRAND MASTI wave across the country. The two films had a dull start, although HORROR STORY was slightly better at places.

Grand Masti Review

September 13th, 2013 by Mohar Basu

Grand Masti Movie Poster

Rating: 0.5/5 stars (Half Star)

Star cast: Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh,Aftab Shivdasani, Kainaat Arora, Bruna Abdalah, Maryam Zakaria, Manjari Fadnis, Sonalee Kulkarni, Karishma Tanna

Director: Indra Kumar

What's Good: Nothing

What's Bad: Everything

Loo break: Don't watch the film at all rather.

Watch or Not?: Grand Masti is obnoxious and detestable so much so that it can pass for a mild po*n film. Replete with sexual innuendos, without a hint of story, this film establishes male chauvinistic notions that men are horny beasts and women are nothing more than available creatures to provide pleasure. It's so unbearable and disturbing to watch such films that demean women so brutally! Belonging to the genre of adult comedy, this film is a vent for the sexually frustrated.

Three young men have had a ball of their life in college. Amar, Prem and Meet in their last days at college meet their new principal Robert Pereira who hangs young men to a Conjuring-like tree and strip them naked to punish them, if they are caught eyeing any woman!

Six years later, Meet is married to his boss but his sex life is dull because of work pressure. Prem's wife is busy taking care of his family and the duo have no time to make love. And Amar and his wife have a child who keep their sex life dry.

When the three leashed men are left astray to attend their college reunion - the trio hook up with their former Principal's daughter, wife and sister. The problem begins when Robert sniffs the wilderness and desperately try to hunt them down.

It's expected to be a crackling feat where the three friends find themselves in a grander problem than their Masti days!

Grand Masti Review: Script Analysis

The film begins with newer contours of what A,B,C,D stands for, as deliciously ravishing women walked off flaunting their butts and bosoms for visual education of the audiences. I kept looking for a story but alas, there was none. The older Masti film was lame but had an inkling of fun in it. Grand Masti is plain cheap that will grotesque you out.

Men ogling so unabashedly at women and thrusting their pelvis at the cameras is more shocking than I had expected. Men are unhappy with their marriages because their wives are either successful, or a variation of Ekta Kapoor's Tulsi or a perfect mother. The way the male spouses meander, the improbable gags, the obscene song sequences, the overall vulgarity is infuriating.

Laura Rose Marlow Mary' are the names of women in this movie and the male characters consider this as an audacious invitation! The male character is named Hardik but emphatically pronounced Hard-dick.

There are several such instances when the film's jokes can be dissected only to find something lewd. The script spares nothing from male genitalia to female body parts with its sickening portrayal.

The flat jokes, sleazy dialogues and flimsy screenplay ensures you have a horrendous time!

Grand Masti Review: Star Performances

Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani and Ritesh Deshmukh are so horrendously disgusting that I don't have a single word of kindness for these men!

The women must be suffering from dire joblessness to indulge in this film that portrays women so poorly!

Grand Masti Review: Direction, Editing and Music

Director Indra Kumar has made innumerable romantic flicks before realizing that making trash is his forte. In this film he has beaten his former records of stooping low in terms of content or conception or even execution! The jokes are not funny unless you are a 16 year old and despite all the desperately laborious efforts I wasn't remotely amused in even a single scene of the film. The editing was fine as the film doesn't torture you for too long and the music has no praiseworthy flair to it.

Grand Masti Review: The Last Word

Grand Masti is a grand tapestry of trash! If you are going to watch the film, it is automatically assumed that you are brainless to invest your time in such a painful film. I would rather route you to watch blue films which might have a better storyline and more action than you expect here. Since films are a work of effort, I am not giving this a zero! Here's 0.5/5 for Grand Masti. Both John Day andGrand Masti will beat Horror Story at horrifying you!

GRAND MASTI REVIEW

GRAND MASTI

Maruti International's Grand Masti (A), a sequel of Masti, is another film in which three happily-married men stray in their quest for fun and adult adventure. Dr. Amar Saxena (Ritesh Deshmukh), Meet Mehta (Vivek Oberoi) and Prem Chawla (Aftab Shivdasani) are friends who had sex on their minds in their college days. Robert Pereira (Pradeep Rawat) had taken over as their college principal just days before they were to pass out of college. They had had a glimpse of his no-nonsense nature when he had passed a diktat that strict action would be taken against boys and girls who would do any hanky-panky. And his strict action could even mean castrating the boys concerned. In fact, Hardik (Suresh Menon) had been castrated by Robert Pereira and then sent to a mental asylum.

Six years later, there is a college reunion where all ex-students are invited to spend a week in the college with their spouses. As luck would have it, Dr. Amar Saxena's wife, Mamta (Sonalee), can't accompany him as she is busy with their new-born child; Meet's wife, Unnatti (Karishma Tanna), also excuses herself as she has to accompany her boss (Captain Bikramjeet Singh) to Turkey; and Prem's wife refuses to go with him as she has to look after the elders in his family.

The three friends decide to go for the college reunion without their wives and plan to make the most of it by having extra-marital affairs. Luckily for them, Robert Pereira is out of the country for two days although he has left his trained crow to guard against any sexual activity or even sexual talk on the college premises. Dr. Amar Saxena meets Mary (Bruna Abdalah), a sexy girl, who is more than willing to sleep with him. Meet meets Marlowe (Kainaat Arora) whom he had shunned during his college days because of her lack of sex appeal. Marlowe has now metamorphosed into a buxom beauty and so Meet is more than willing to have fun with her and reciprocates her advances. Prem hooks up with his teacher, Rose (Maryam Zakaria), who also invites him over to her bedroom for a night of passion.

Even before the three friends can really get intimate with their respective partners, Robert Pereira returns to the college. It turns out that Rose is Robert's second wife, Mary is his daughter from his first wife, and Marlowe is his sister. Sensing that the three must've gotten intimate with his wife, daughter and sister, Robert Pereira goes after them. Amar, Meet and Prem try to escape from the city but just then, their wives reach there.

It is now a cat-and-mouse game between Robert Pereira and the three friends. Meanwhile, Hardik has escaped from the mental hospital and wants to kill Pereira. He blackmails Amar, Meet and Prem to eliminate Robert Pereira by threatening to make public the MMS clips he has of them in bed with Mary, Marlowe and Rose respectively.

Do the three friends kill Pereira and save their own lives or do they save Pereira and put their lives on the line? Do the wives get to know that their husbands were ready to go to bed with the women they had befriended in the college reunion? Do the three raunchy women continue to be terrorised by Robert Pereira or do they revolt?

Tushar Hiranandani and Milap Milan Zaveri's story and screenplay are an assemblage of gags rather than a free-flowing drama. While some sequences are hilarious and some funny, there are also some which are plain boring. Three sequences which stand out for their brilliance are: the one in which Meet and Prem watch with bewilderment Mary pulling out things from Amar's bag behind a screen, and assume something very different; the scene in which the three friends, each flanked by his wife and girlfriend, get sexually charged while drinking soup; and the one in which Amar poses as a pimp for Meet and Prem, both in drag, to fool Hardik as they want to get hold of his cell phone to delete the MMS clips. There are other scenes abounding in double-meaning dialogues (written by Milap Milan Zaveri) and vulgar gestures, which will find favour with the masses, front-benchers and the youth. There is a lot of skin show and there are also plenty of adult jokes and dialogues, which will appeal to the audience. However, these very ingredients and scenes will repulse the orthodox and family audiences as also many women. There are some scenes, especially in the second half, which do not have the desired impact. Some scenes are outright cheap and leave a bad taste in the mouth. Perhaps, the climax could have been better as it does not match up to the highlight sequences, but again, the dialogues in the final scene somewhat make up for the ordinary climax.

Before coming to the performances of the actors, it must be mentioned that the acting often stands out because of the vulgar scenes and dialogues rather than the performancesper se. Ritesh Deshmukh does a fine job with his poker-faced comedy. His sense of comic timing is excellent. Vivek Oberoi is good and sincere. Aftab Shivdasani, who needs to reduce his weight, performs well. All the three heroes are in character and have been aided by double-entendres. Manjari Fadnis does an average job as Tulsi. Karishma Tanna is exuberant in the role of Unnatti. Sonalee is okay as Mamta. Kainaat Arora exudes oomph and gives a free and uninhibited performance. Bruna Abdalah and Maryam Zakaria add to the glamour and sex quotient. Pradeep Rawat does fairly well. Suresh Menon leaves a mark.

Indra Kumar's direction is good and the best part is that his narrative style is unapologetic. The film greatly appeals to the target audience. Musically (Anand Raaj Anand and Sanjeev-Darshan), the film has songs which aren't chartbusters but they are enjoyable because of their pace and racy lyrics (Kumaar and Manoj Darpan). Song picturisations (by Ganesh Acharya and Chinni Prakash) are okay. Background music is effective. Rituraj Narain's cinematography and Rajat Poddar's sets are alright. R.P. Yadav's action scenes are commonplace. Editing (Sanjay Sankla) is crisp.

On the whole, Grand Masti will be loved by the youth, masses and front-benchers and disliked by the family audience and ladies. In the final tally, it will prove to be a richly rewarding fare.

Grand Masti First Day (Friday) Collection and Early Trends. Heads for Big Numbers.

Posted by Kaalia You May Also Like News on: Vivek Oberoi at Friday, September 13, 2013
Grand Masti has taken a Grand Start on Friday the Opening Day at box office. Film despite having no big star has taken a opening of big star power film. Yes, film is second offering of Masti and being an adult comedy youth has throng to theaters.

Grand Masti started the day with 40% occupancy all over India in Morning shows. Film then picked up well in Noon and Afternoon shows with occupancy as high as 60-65%+ reported. Evening shows are started well on occupancy of 60%+ everywhere and expect a big number for the day. Grand Masti despite having a fabulous start has some drawbacks. Film is an adult genre and hence, the growth on Night time and Weekend may not be as high as Family Genre film. Family audiences will come less in numbers and hence, jump may be less.

However apart from that everything is just going right for the film. Even an opening of 30%+ would have been well appreciated considering the face value of the film. As for First Day numbers. It is too early to make any statement right now, but going by the trend if Night shows also perform well expect a figure of 10 crore nett or in that vicinity. This is just unimaginable number for a film like Grand Masti. Its rejoice time for Grand Masti Team.

GRAND MASTI Registers Huge Day One, Certain To Be Among Top Five Opening Days Of 2013

After disappointment from big films like "Satyagraha", OUATIMD, "Zanjeer" and "Madras Cafe", "Grand Masti" shined big time on day one bringing smile back on faces of trade guys. Film went through the roof and surpassed all expectations.

Film was outstanding in Gujarat, Mumbai, Central India and UP. Film was almost 80% in morning to noon and then registered jump from evening onwards. At the moment, film looks to score 5th biggest opening day ("Satyagraha" 11.20 cr nett) of 2013 if not 4th ("Himmatwala" 12.10 cr nett).

This is easily heading for big weekend and from here 35 cr nett looks good as such films do not jump big over the weekend. Though 38-40 cr nett can not be ruled out.

Other new releases "Horror Story" was as bad and collections will be less than 1.25 cr nett. Other release "John Day" was complete washout and even 50-70 lakh on day one looks tough. Hollywood release "Grown Ups 2" received cold response.
