Will Sushant make a better lead than Hrithik in Paani?

By Prerna Arora Sep 17, 2013

Will Sushant make a better lead than Hrithik in Paani?

In the morning I read about Shekhar Kapur changing his lead from Hrithik Roshan to Sushant Singh Rajput in his ambitious project Paani. The movie, which is set in near future, is a story about how with a decrease in water supply international corporations will corrupt the system in order to control people and which will eventually lead to a war. While the story sounds intense it will have a backdrop of a love saga, just like it did in Dil Se.

Shekhar Kapur had begun writing this story in 1988, as says his blog. But when the first time he imagined the scenes it was only Hrithik that he had in vision who could play this role. Interestingly, over a period of the time he confesses that the story evolved and so did Hrithik who is now all set to play a superhero in Krrish 3. While we have been reading about Paani from many years finally Shekhar Kapur has tied up with Yash Raj Films to produce Paani, the blue-eyed boy of the production house, Sushant Singh Rajput, has achieved a direct ticket to this movie and it will see a release in 2015.

Frankly I really can't imagine Sushant stepping into Hrithik's shoes be it for any role. Yes, he is a good actor and he proved it really well in his debut role in Kai Po Che. But is it enough for him to take Hrithik's place? Sushant has shown he has the charm and that mesmerising screen presence which will make you forget who else is on-screen but it's Hrithik on the other hand who took the nation by storm in his debut in Kaho Na Pyar Hai.

I agree with Shekhar Kapur when he says that Hrithik has evolved as an actor and quite clearly we have seen that in movies like Guzaarish, Agneepath and so on. But let's not forget Sushant is only two movies old out of which Shuddh Desi Romance didn't really highlight his acting prowess. I am not saying he can't pull off a Shekhar Kapur project but maybe Hrithik's maturity as an actor could be much suited for the role. He is one of those few actors in the industry who believe in playing their character to the T and in a Shekhar Kapur movie nothing less is expected.

What I also found more interesting was the director's blog on Hrithik in which he clarified that he was looking for a raw, inexperienced actor who is still finding his way through the industry to play the lead in Paani and Hrithik has supposedly surpassed that point in his career. I couldn't agree more, Hrithik has definitely now risen as a Superstar but something about Sushant's naivety as an actor doesn't seem to fit in an intense project like Paani.

In any case, I would love to see Shekhar Kapur and Hrithik working together for a movie, maybe a Hollywood project as suggested by the director himself? I am going to watch out for this one!

very unfair to compare Sushant with Hrithik. This kind of publicity will not help the poor boy .He is only starting out in films ..
He got the role because he is a good actor and he looks the part not because he is taking over some other star ...

It still beats me as to how people weren't impressed by Sushant's acting in SDR. I personally thought he was better in SDR than even in KPC- don't get me wrong, I loved Ishan and I loved him in that role, but something about his performance as Raghu totally blew me away. It was like I was pulled into his performance and watched the story through Raghu's eyes only.

About Vaani, she's a sweetheart. I've really grown to like her. I hope she gets to do more projects in BW too. I want to see her with Sushant again, especially for the offscreen segments. :P

There you go.I was waiting for such a article.Media never leaves anyone especially a young upcoming star.
How can Sush ,a young upcoming star compared to a super-star Hrithik.
Its like comparing young Hrithik at that time (when Hrithik was just one movie old - Kahoo Na pyaar hai fame) with SRK.
It does not make any sense.I am not sure why media has do this comparison of actors always and put young upcoming actors under pressure.

Having worked with him in Jodhaa Akbar, Hrithik Roshan was Ashutosh Gowariker's first choice when he began to cast for his historical film on the Indus Valley civilisation. Hrithik was keen to be part of the project, and he promised to make time for it. However, the film kept getting delayed. Now after waiting for over a year for him, Ashu has roped in Sushant Singh Rajput for the film.
Gowariker, who is synonymous with period films like Jodhaa Akbar and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, is making his next based on Mohenjodaro. Like the Hrithik-Aishwarya starrer, this one too will be narrated in the form of a love story. The director has researched for this film in tandem with a by a team of archaeologists.
This is the second film in which Singh has replaced' Roshan. Hrithik was also considered by Shekhar Kapur for his project Paani. The film will have a strong Indian and Western star cast. Sushant will be joined by a young leading actress from the West.
