Chapter 8
After Aman gave away the minutest details that he knew about the lecher named Shyam Jha, Arnav Singh Raizada had immediately come to a conclusion. He was dangerous. Dangerous bordering on insanity, even! That made the danger that could arise from him, unpredictable - a notion that Arnav did not like. Not at all! Yes, all the crimes that Shyam was sentenced with were petty. But that fact failed to provide any consolation to Arnav. The sooner he dealt with him, the better. His mind started running a thousand and eleven ideas as to how he could manage it. Khushi and especially Di - since she was the closest to him had to be protected. He saw an equally concerned Aman, and thought that the loyal man that he was, Aman was naturally worried for his boss's family. Nothing other than that.
"Nobody should know about this, Aman, especially not my family. Cancel all the appointments for the day." Arnav announced and Aman countered, "But you are expected in Mumbai. The union of our mill there is on strike. Akash was handling the Mumbai division. But he..." Arnav sighed. How he wished his brother was there to take care of work while he thought of saving his family from Shyam. What concerned him more was the fact that he would not be able to protect his women if he went out of Delhi. If a certain someone came to know that he was out of town, it would be no wonder that he would try to take advantage of that fact. What to do? What to do?! His mind was wondering when he thought of a perfect person. Of course! He definitely would help.
He took an all-of-a-sudden-sad-looking-Khushi's hand and left his cabin, telling Aman that he would leave as soon as he could. When they entered the elevator, Arnav pulled his wife in his arms, lifted her downcast face up and questioned with his eyes as to what the reason was, for her dejection. "Aap Mumbai jaayenge? Hume yahaan akela chod kar?" Khushi questioned in a small voice which was so woeful that he pulled her head to his shoulder, covering her fully in his embrace, as if he was protecting her from all the grief in the world and taking it all on him. Kissing her temple once, he tried to soothe her, "Jaana tho padega hi na, Khushi? Akash bhi tho nahi hai, yahaan." He sighed and his warm breath washed over face, making her eyes glisten with unshed tears. Tears of separation, unshed. She moved more into him, and sighed once too, and replied, "Jaldi waapas ayiyega." Arnav lifted her face and kissed her gently, and Khushi realized that they had never, ever kissed gently. Not even once. It was always laced with that passionate hunger. The door slid open and they moved out of the elevator, to the car.

"Tripathiji. Namaste" Anjali had gone to the Singh Raizada familial advocate. After the initial small talk of each other's well being, she said, "I wanted to know if you consider me as a client and would not share what I am about to say with anyone of my family or would you consider answerable to mamaji or naniji?" Chatur Tripathi took a moment to answer that question. He had long been answerable to only Arnav Singh Raizada. Not anyone else from the Singh Raizada family, and answered her question as honestly as he could without actually lying, "I am neither answerable to Manohar or Devyaniji. Go ahead, please."
"I want to annul my marriage. Now." Anjali declared without batting an eyelash, and stressing on the now. Tripathi's eyebrows rose to display his surprise, and he stopped himself from asking why she was doing so. The impersonal look that she gave almost dared him to ask her that question. Instead, he asked, "Annulment or divorce?" "Divorce takes time, Tripathiji. I need to end this marriage as soon as possible. Besides, I don't want him to clam alimony. I don't care what you do, make that case so."
Tripathi gave an understanding nod, and further explained, "The papers will be ready within a few minutes, ma'am. The reason for this annulment should be stated as...?" Anjali answered in simple words, "Shyam Jha is a fraud, a criminal, a womanizer, and I am sure adultery is on the list too. Choose any or all of them." Tripathi nodded, and showed her into a more comfortable looking couch, before he instructed his assistant to get the papers ready. It seemed that Anjali Singh Raizada could be a hundred times of what Arnav Singh Raizada could ever be, the old lawman thought, shaking his head mentally, shocked that the sweet Anjali he had once met had completely disappeared. What remained was the cold, calculative, sharp-tongued woman who sat on his couch, leafing through a business magazine with utmost concentration, as if the thought of annulling her marriage had never entered her mind. He wondered what junior Singh Raizada would think of it.
"Here, ma'am. You need to sign here and here, and the same goes for your husband." Tripathi explained and quailed at the glare that Anjali passed him, when he had uttered the word, 'husband'. Anjali wrote him a cheque and told him to write an appropriate number on it, before she left. On the way home, she prayed to her goddess that she should be given the strength to handle her husband patiently. She really did not want the argument - she was sure, there would be one - to turn into a physical fight, knowing that fights were definitely not her forte. As soon as she entered, Raizada mansion, Naniji questioned, "Aap kaha thi, bitiya? Subah se nahi dikhi? Breakfast?" Anjali smiled a warm smile at the ever-caring mother figure. "I had been to the mandir, naniji. And I am not hungry... Shyam ji kaha hai, naniji?" Devyani smiled and answered that he was in their room.
"I'll take rest and we will have lunch together." Anjali said, before she walked to her room, removing the annulment papers from her bag. As she walked into her room, she saw Shyam switching off the television and standing up to greet her - a greeting which stayed unanswered. "What are those papers, Rani Sahiba?" he questioned, not used to seeing Anjali do any sort of official work. "See for yourself." Anjali handed him the papers in an indifferent voice. Shyam's gaze turned suspicious at that tone. His wife was never the one to even hold a grudge against him. His eyes fell to the papers in his hand and his face blanched. "Annulment?! But WHY?!! Is this some kind of a joke?!" Shyam sputtered in anger, and Anjali waited for him to give her a chance to speak.
"I know that you were charged with two cases each of rape and fraud." Anjali stated, and Shyam adapted a soothing voice which he always used to convince his wife, "Woh sach nahi hai, Rani Sahiba. I have proved myself innocent in the court." Anjali's lips twisted in a frosty smirk, "You mean that you manipulated the court to prove yourself innocent." "No, Rani. . ." Shyam had started to argue when she raised her hand to tell him to stop - a habit which she had taken from her paternal grandmother, she realized and smiled wryly to herself. "Sign these papers, and leave silently. Or else I will tell it all to my family and file another case on you. Keep in mind that the Singh Raizadas are very influential in Delhi. And quite honestly, you don't want to mess with me. Trust me on this!" Anjali advised him, and the confidence in her voice made him think quicker.
As far as he was concerned, he had two ways at that moment. Convince his wife that whatever she had learnt about him was a lie. But seeing the finality in her eyes, that was out of question. Next was to say what she did and strike back if and when required. That was the best way out, he decided, and signed the papers silently. "Aap kaafi khush nazar aa rahe hai, Rani Sahiba." Shyam sneered, and Anjali laughed at the audacity of the man. "Oh, stop calling me that name, already! I had married you just to keep my nani happy. Did you know that at the time I married you, I had actually thought that you were dumb? That was the only reason why I married you. So that I could manipulate you easily." Anjali sighed as she let go her pretence and revealed her true form to him. "Truth be told, you are pretty dumb. You spend most of your time with me and still thought of me as a naive, silly idiot? I told you that I don't feel comfortable having a physical relationship and you left me at that?! Seriously, Shyam! Where did you find your release? Huh? In the red light area of Delhi? Or did you find yourself a new woman to obsess over? Like you did, in the past?" Anjali saw Shyam tighten his jaw and waved her hand as if to dismiss her thoughts, and collected the papers - now duly signed by him - and said, "You know what?! It doesn't matter anymore. Tonight, when everyone sleeps, just get out of here. And make sure that you take everything of yours. I don't want to feel disgusted with you all over again when I see any of your belonging here."

That evening, when Aman sat in a cafe with his friend, Kishore, they chatted about Arnav Singh Raizada asking about Shyam's past and learning about it. "You did not tell him that it was I who gave you all this info, right?" Kishore questioned and aman shook his head in negation. Changint the topic, Aman questioned, "Bhabhi tujhse itne dinon tak door kaise rehti hai yaar? You should have brought her here." Kishore gave a sarcastic look to his friend and asked, "And tell my family what? That I married an Australian? No, thanks!" Aman shrugged, telling his friend that it was his wish. Kishore stood and threw a few bills of currency on the table and said, "Mujhe jaana hoga, yaar. I have to go, guard someone for the night." Aman jerked his head back as he smiled wryly, "Even your family here doesn't know that you're a cop. Who would ask you to do so?"
"Your boss - Arnav Singh Raizada... I think he has a doubt about my job. I guess he knows." Kishore grinned as he answered, and shrugged. "Where are you going, by the way?" Aman questioned, and Kishore answered, "Laxmi nagar." Aman's eyes widened as he grinned, "You're going there to guard Khushi. Khushi Kumari Gupta!" Kishore shared the grin as he said, "Yepp," popping on the 'p', "the love of Nannav's life!" With that repartee, Nandkishore Narayan, left to take up his post as the bodyguard of Khushi, as per Nannav's request, a gun safe in his jacket, just in case. Aman stood and walked out with him too, and questioned, "Do you think that this has something to do with Shyam Jha?" NK shrugged, and answered, "Maybe. Nannav never revealed me the reason. But I still can't believe Shyam turned out to be such a toad!"
Oh the things he had to do for the sake of love. No matter who's it was. . . . .

Yes! The cop who had helped Aman out is NK aka Nandkishore Narayan! How's that for a twist?! 😉
And now Arnav has asked NK to keep an eye on Khushi. More to come. . . .
Keep reading and reviewing. The bigger the comments are, the more I am encouraged to write. Remember! 😃
Harsh, Thanks for the PM. That was a lovely surprise.
Thank God at least your Arnav knows Shyam for what he is and enlisting Aman's help! Not a do it yourself man! So Shyam had previous criminal offences recorded. Arnav has realized that he is dangerous to both Di and Khushi!
Lawyer Tripathy is clever! He has not revealed that he is answerable to ASR and he would not be betraying Anjali's confidence! Like this Anjali who has a backbone of her own. Taking her life into her own hands and Annulment! Wow! How much SMJ must be in love of money! Will he succumb to the ultimatum given by his wife? Nah! Would love to see what he would do? Force her at night? Let me wait and see what you have in store. NK Narayan happens to be a cop! Not a writer!!!???? Nice choice Harsh! So he is on a beat at Laxminagar with a ready gun at hand. Is SMJ's next destination Laxminagar?
Loved the update Harsh! Looking forward to the next!
