Chapter 16:

Asad pulled out his keys and opened the door. When he looked inside, he was in shock. The keys fell from his hands and crashed on the floor

Zoya froze at the words being said.

In the living room sat Dilshad, Najma, Asad's childhood friend Tanveer and her parents next to her.

Dilshad: So when do you want the engagement to be?

Tanveer's Mother: How about next week?

Dilshad: Sounds perfect.

Najma didn't seem very happy with what was going on . She turned around and saw Asad and Zoya standing at the door.

Najma: Bhaijaan, You're back!

Asad didn't say a word, he just moved forward towards Najma.

Dilshad: Asad! Guess who's here, TANVEER!

She sounded very cheery but his face just had pain written all over it.

Dilshad explained to Asad that their wedding has been fixed and that they will be getting engaged next week. Asad said nothing. What could have said anyways? That he can't marry his best friend because his heart belongs to his guest? He had always done what his ammi said. He believed that his ammi always did the best for him. But was this really the best for him?

*** In Zoya's room***

Zoya had went into her room when she heard 'engagement next week'

The room was dark and she sat in a corner, balling her soul out. She loved him, she really did. She got happiness, but it didn't last very long. She cried non stop. Her eyes had turned red and swollen.

Zoya heard Tanveer and her family leave. She got up and went into bed in case anyone came in to check on her.

Everyone went into their rooms to rest. Dilshad had fell asleep fairly quickly while Najma, Zoya and Asad troubled to get rest.

At around 1: 30 Zoya got out of bed and went out to the garden. She needed some fresh air from all the tears she had just shed.

As she walked outside, she saw najma sitting on the bench. She went and sat beside her.

Najma: I'm sorry Zoya.

Zoya turned her head to look at Najma with confusion written on her face.

Zoya: Sorry?

Najma: I know that you and Bhaijaan love each other. Bhaijaan has changed so much since you came. But now his wedding is going off to be set with someone else and I didnt build the confidence to say anything *Najma holds Zoya's hand* Please forgive me if you can! I am really sorry!

Najma had tears fallen down as well as Zoya. Zoya cleaned the tears off her face.

Zoya: Don't be sorry Najma! It was never your fault. Destiny has its ways within us and we can't change what happens. I am so used to pain now. First my mother left this world and then my father left me. I had forgotten that I have no possession over happiness. Everyone that I had ever loved was always sent far from me, so I'm not surprised that you guys will be distant from me as well.

Najma: Dont say that Zoya! You Never Kn--

Zoya: No najma, I can't live a lie. Its clear that there is no point in me staying here either. Thats why I have decided to leave this house very soon.

Zoya got up and left not giving Najma a chance to respond. She walked inside into her room not noticing the fact that Asad had stood from his window watching and listening to the whole conversation.

She went into her room and began to pack. As she was packing, Asad came into her room to talk.

Asad: What are you doing?

Zoya decided not to look up but continued to pack while responding.

Zoya: Isn't it obvious? I'm packing.

Asad: Why?

Zoya: Because I have to go. Now can you leave and let me pack!

Asad: Do you really think I will let you leave?

Zoya: Do you really thing I will stay?

Asad: Why not though?

Zoya stopped and looked at him.

Zoya: Is there a reason to stay back. Everything is finished Asad! EVERYTHING!

Asad walked up to her and held her arm with all his pain.

Asad: How can you even think of leaving ZOYA!

Zoya: Let go Asad! You're hurting me!

Asad: NO! You're hurting me!

He let go and left to his room.

Zoya sat on her bed and rubbed her arms. She had to leave as soon as possible before her heart would stop her.

Buy the time it was 5:00 Zoya was all packed. She left her room taking all of her stuff with her.

She slipped a note through everyone's doors and exited the Khan Mansion.
