Pretty, please with sugar and cream, may I but in Kirthi Di aur Jac? Reading BB's comment, I do see what she might be implying. Since so many shows went off air recently, there is now not only new shows to watch, but more variety and fresh storylines. People who have been watching the current show off and on for a few months may lose interest and concentrate solely on the new show that holds their fancy. Being with a new show brings a feeling of connection to it. So add that connection of being among the first to follow it, with an intense interest, and very persuasive family members speaking to fed up members of another show, and you have a slow exodus. That was my mini interpretation. Will wait for BB to come and explain what she meant that caused all your hearts to go a- flutter.
Hey Kadeen! 😃 You're not butting in at all. From your interpretation of Borna's concerns, I completely get it. It's a legitimate concern, especially the bold. The viewership can indeed be very fickle and demanding, and it's hard to even figure out some of those demands. What's more anxiety-inducing is that these reactions aren't something we can control, particularly the way Zee handles many of their shows' endings. Ultimately, it's a pity that this digitalization insanity (coupled with a some iffy storytelling with the Ex's story arc) put the show on such precarious footing that whenever we have an off week, we're left wondering about a rebound since there truly are new shows airing or even on the waiting line all the time. Looking forward to catching up with Borna when she stops by, and seeing how she feels about it now.
I know, Kirthi, Borna has us wondering here. 😆 The numbers truly aren't in our hands and, as an international viewer, it's definitely out of my hands. I'm one of the silent wonderers when it comes to ratings. When it comes to Kratika and Gurmeet's Zee affiliated or supported appearances, I agree with you. I definitely sense a continued faith in their ability to draw people especially from the fact that PV was doing very well in the pre-digitization ratings as well as from their pre-PV popularity.
I think you and I evaluate the ratings very similarly. While others understandably focus on where PV lands on the Zee chart, I tend to focus on how PV is doing comparatively in its own timeslot as well. You're right, from the little we can tell, PV seems quite competitive in its timeslot, especially when it's having one of its better weeks. Like you, I would like to think the timeslot is one of the things Zee and our PV show runners are taking into consideration. I'm sure they also have the daily numbers to determine what has worked and what hasn't in a given week. And, IA, we'll see this week if the viewers of the new 10 p.m. show stayed on for PV. *hopes for the best*
Kadeen, I hear you. Interestingly enough, upon the resumption of TRPs, I wasn't worried about the story being affected much because I always trusted to Mittals to stay with the central premise and characterization they established, even if they had to make adjustments. I was more worried about Zee not giving them time to rebound and departed viewers not giving them a second chance. It was heartening to see PV hit 2.2s and 2.3s in February, albeit with a lot of melodrama. However, ratings have always been a natural point of interest for me for all of my favorite shows. When it comes to PV, I want other people to catch the beauty of this show. In spite of its flaws, it's still such a beautiful and quality-based show. Like you, I've also been quite frustrated to see a fantastic cast like the one PV has -- arguably the strongest ensemble cast in the current Zee lineup -- not rewarded with a viewership number that affirms the quality of their performances and the stories they play out. As an extension, ratings often affect the longevity of a show (not always but often). It would be nice to see PV have a robust, satisfying run and closure instead of the patched up, rushed sort of endings Zee seems to drive many shows towards because of unstable ratings. So, although completely out of my hands, my interest in the ratings and hope for higher, stabilized ratings continue for those reasons.
I like that analogy you made. In your mention of the "chill-pill", you said it was generally needed, so I hope I'm correct in assuming you mean it's needed by both viewers and EPs/Zee? 😳
