CHAPTER 23
Jai tried his best to include Abhi in the conversation he was having with Sonali. They spoke about the playground and what all she wanted. Jai stopping and looking at Abhi and asking him every now and then his opinion. Abhi didn't say much but shrugged his shoulders or nodded every now and then.
Bani was feeling extremely happy, she was going to have a family again. She knew that deep down inside that she should take each day as it came but had high hopes of where she would like to end up. So deep in her future thoughts that she did not hear Jai speaking with her.
Jai stared at Bani and wondered what she was thinking, he knew it had to be good, noticing the smile on her face.
He called her again, Bani, Bani are you listening, coming out of her dream, she saw 3 sets of eyes staring at her, sorry I was miles away. What did you say?
Nothing special, I just wanted to know if the packing is all done than maybe I should call the movers in sooner to take the packed things. That way we can maybe leave earlier than I had originally said.
Yes, I think I have packed all that I can, the only things left are the bigger items and the last minute clothes we are using. That's good I will call them this morning, and we can take the last minute clothes with us. There will be lots of room on the plane for some extra suitcases.
Hearing the word plane, he heard both his children gasp, with only Sonali asking, Papa are we going on a plane? While answering her, he saw the excitement and sparkle on Abhi's face. Yes my darlings, we are going on a plane, and if you two are really good than you can sit in the front with the pilot for a while, each taking turns. Seeing the look on Abhi's face at that suggestion, Jai knew he had made points with him.
Bani knew that the kids were going to be lost to her until they were on their way and on that plane, judging by their chattering and the way they left the kitchen without saying anything further to the two of them.
Finding themselves alone in the kitchen, Jai was going to take advantage of every alone time they had. He saw the smudge of syrup on the end of her lip and knew he couldn't resist. Walking up to her and using his index finger he tried to rub if off but noticed he smeared it more on her lips, and knew that his lips would be the only way he would be able to remove it. Holding her face between both hands, he gently used his tongue to run over her lips and then using his lips to finish the job. Both feeling the passion as he held her closer to his body, feeling her running her fingers thru his hair. Pushing her against the counter and taking full advantage of the bare skin between her blouse and petticoat, Jai rubbed her stomach and moved his hands towards the back of her blouse. Both oblivious to the fact the Aunty was now present in the kitchen.
Happy at seeing both of them finally together, Aunty did not want to interrupt them but knew she had to as the kids were both heading towards the kitchen.
Clearing her throat once again, this time louder, Bani and Jai quickly jumped apart, both embarrassed at being seen by Aunty. Both kids running into the kitchen at that time. Sorry, I was trying to get your attention before the kids ran in here.
Mumbling a thank you to Aunty Jai made a hasty escape out of the kitchen saying something about taking a shower.
Bani with Auntie's help finished clearing up the table and cleaning up. Aunty very sneakily suggested to Bani that she was going to take the kids and go to visit her friend whose grandchildren were visiting so that Bani could finish the rest of the packing. Adding that she herself was already packed and ready to go.
Bani knew that she didn't have the heart to say no as both the children were already looking at her waiting for her answer. Bani knew it was a good idea for them to go and spend some time with other children, especially for Abhi as was not himself the last few days. It wld be good for him to release some of his frustrations.
Feeling a lot better after taking his shower again, Jai finished dressing and went into the front living room, just in time to see Aunty and the children leaving and Bani shutting the door. Without asking, Bani told him where the children were going and that they would be out most of the day so that she could finish packing.
Jai was happy at the thought of being alone with Bani, but knew that they had a lot of do before they left and had to stop himself from being distracted. Instead he said, Why don't we go out right now and see your employer and let him know that we are leaving earlier than we told him.
After leaving the hotel Bani was silent; sad and happy at the same time as she was closing an old chapter of her life and about to start a new one.
They walked in silence not saying anything; Jai quietly took her hand and entwined his with hers walking towards the car.
They had stopped at the market to pick some things up for dinner as Jai wanted to do the cooking tonight. He had decided to make it a fun dinner and decided that he would make, chicken fingers, tacos and burgers.
Walking into the apartment he noticed that the children and aunty were still not back and noticed the blinking light on the answering machine.
With Bani walking behind him, he automatically took the liberty and pressed the play button, hearing the voice of Adi saying that Massi had another heart attack and that he thought Jai should come back home right away. Hopefully with Bani and the children with him pointing out that if anything was going to make Massi feel better it would be by seeing Bani and finally knowing that she had grandchildren. The only people she kept calling for was Jai and Bani.
Hearing the message left by Adi Uncle, Bani knew what Jai would do but knew she wasn't ready yet. She couldn't face them right now. She needed a bit more time. Turning and seeing the fear on her face, Jai walked up to her and held her in his arms. Bani, I know that this news has changed things about us leaving but everything will be all right. Adi knows all my plans and knows that I have found you and about the kids. I trust him more than anything in the whole world and know that he will not discuss anything I have told him to anyone. He is supporting me in everything that I have decided regarding you and the chidren. He was very happy to hear that I found you, he misses you a lot you know. You are like a daughter to him.
Mr. Walia please, I still have so much more to do, I can't possibly leave right now. You go and be with Massi and once she is better you can come back and we will go there together.
Jai knew that there was no way he was going to leave here without Bani and the children. He had to convince her somehow to go with him right now. Bani listen to me, I know you are scared but you have to trust me, there is nothing for you to be scared about.
After you left Massi had a heart attack and everything was touch and go for a while, but I had convinced her and told her that she needed to be strong and get better for the day you came back. Massi has not been the same since you left. I even stopped going to see her every week as she would ask me the same question over and over again, whether I found you yet.
I didn't have the heart to see her pain anymore and so I thought the less I saw of her the less she would be reminded of you. Please Bani, I have never asked anything of you, if you care anything about me or even Massi, you and the children will come with me now. I cannot leave and not have you 3 with me. I know I said that we would be a family but not husband and wife, but I was angry and I wanted to hurt you. I need you and the children with me to survive. I will be there beside you every step of the way. You and the children will be my first priority. We will stand together and face anything and everything that comes our way.
Looking at her husband, seeing the unshed tears in his eyes and the pleading in his voice, Bani knew she couldn't say no to him.
Touching his face, she replied, I guess we better call Aunty and tell her to come home right away than shouldn't we.
So happy at hearing her reply, Jai grabbed her and held her so tight, kissing her all over her face, finally ending with him picking her up in his arms and saying, we will but I need to finish something we started this morning. Carrying her in the bedroom and shutting the door behind him with his foot.
