As much as I can remember she didnt tell him directly that she loved him, but through her actions she had conveyed her feelings to him.
And J had a misconception at that time that A still was in love with him and only became ready to marry S because of her mother's wish.That's why he was expecting that A could not declare her love to S.Thus he asked that Q from S.
