Guys sorry to hurt Box Office but I got myself a "black dvd" from a guy at my work so I am gonna watch it tonight and put up my review later . Hopefully all goes well

Special 26 – A Jolly Caper

The name Akshay Kumar is synonymous with mindless comedies and some of the most vile garbage from Bollywood. So, Special 26 was not even on the horizon for the choice of my weekend Bollywood fix.

However my curiosity got the better of me after I learnt that Special 26 is made by the same guy who made the wonderful "A Wednesday" (2008).

I decided to give Special 26 a shot and to my surprise, I walked out satisfied and thoroughly entertained.

Neeraj Pandey did not disappoint me or the brisk crowd that assembled in Regal Cinemas for the Friday night show. He proved that "A Wednesday" was no flash in the pan.

Story

Special 26 stars Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher and Manoj Bajpai in lead roles with Jimmy Shergill, Kajal Agarwal and Divya Dutta in support roles.

Neeraj Pandey has written and directed this taut thriller/caper.

It seems that the story is inspired from a real-life robbery of a major jewelry store in Bombay in mid-1980's by a gang of con-men pretending to be from the CBI.

This movie is set in 1987.

Ajay (Akshay Kumar), P.K. Sharma (Anupam Kher) and their two allies are con men. They conduct raids on corrupt businessmen and politicians by pretending to CBI / Income Tax officers and steal whatever booty they find stashed. The victims never report the loss or file a police case for fear of the news of their ill-gotten wealth going public.

One such "raid" on a minister's house results in the suspension of Sub-Inspector Ranveer Singh (Jimmy Shergill) and Shanti (Divya Dutta). Ranveer decides to make it as his personal mission to catch the gang and teams up with CBI officer Wasim Khan (Manoj Bajpai).

They find out that the gang is planning something big for their last "raid" before their retire into obscurity and Wasim Khan decides to catch them during the act.

What's Special about Special 26?

Special 26 has many things working for it.

The basic premise is very believable.

Despite decent business in India, Special 26 and ABCD - Any Body Can Dance could not score overseas. Special 26 grossed $1.25 and ABCD - Any Body Can Dance grossed $425,000.

The opening figures of Special 26 from major markets are as follows

United Kingdom - 110,000

North America - $465,000

UAE - $375,000

Australia - $90,000

The opening figures of ABCD - Any Body Can Dance from major markets are as follows

United Kingdom - Not Released

North America - $100,000

UAE - $225,000

Australia - $35,000

Race 2 hit the $6 million mark in seventeen days and is a HIT in the overseas markets.

Special 26 Wednesday Box Office Collection. Steady.

Special 26 has shown a drop in business of around 15% on Wednesday at the box office. Drop is steady in the weekdays with each day registering 10-15% fall. Special 26 has collected around 3.2 crore nett on Wednesday as per estimates. Film is steady, but collections are in lower end. It would have been nice if filmed had collected better than the actual now.

Special 26 total collection after six days is around 37.85 crore nett. Its first week collection is heading for around 40.5 crore nett mark. Again first week collection is decent, but could have been better considering the positive reports for the film. Anyways Special 26 needs good trending in coming days for reaching the safety mark of around 70 crore nett. There is no major release until Himmatwala which is releasing on 29th March, which suggest it will have just enough screen space for collecting well at the box office.

Collection Breakup -

Friday - 7 cr nett.
Saturday - 9 cr nett.

Sunday - 10.5 cr nett.

Monday - 4.3 cr nett.
Tuesday - 3.85 cr nett.
Wednesday - 3.2 cr nett.

Total - 37.85 cr nett.
