Chapter 9
Before leaving RK's room Madhu managed to find the contract that bound their souls together. She always knew where RK kept it; she just never thought that there would come a day that she would have to destroy it. She always thought of the contract as a memento of their love story. But as it turned out that very story was fake. The contract was now something that reminded her of a simple chawl girl who was willing to give up her body and soul to a man that never loved her. She was now ready.
As morning rose RK was already downstairs in the living area. He was sitting on his expensive sofa sipping on his tea while Dipali was complaining to Radiji how he had ruined Sikki's chances with Mr. Avinesh. Just then, one of RK's servants came to inform him of a man looking for Mrs. Kundra. RK looked at his watch and was wondering "who the hell would come here at 6 in the morning for Madhu?" Radiji and Dipali were also very surprised, because Madhu never had any visitors before, beside her own family of course. She never even brought a friend over. RK waived to the servant to let the man enter. He was wearing a black business suit with a grey tie. He was also carrying a large briefcase that made everyone in the RK household even more curious as to what he wanted with Madhu.
RK: I see you ask to see Mrs. Kundra. And what is this about?
Man: I'm sorry sir. I can not disclose that until I have Mrs. Kundra's permission.
RK was mad. How dare his biwi invite another man to his house without even telling him!!
"Anything that pertains to my WIFE you can tell me." RK yelled. The man was now very nervous. The last thing he wanted was to be on RK's bad side, because nobody wanted to be on his bad side. But for the amount of money he received from Mr. Avinesh he was able to disappear forever before RK could do anything to him.
Man: I'm very sorry sir.
Suddenly Bittuji came to remind RK that he has another hour before leaving for a scheduled interview. RK obviously was in no mood to do an interview; his biwi had the nerve to invite another man to his house without permission.
RK: Cancel it Bittuji!! Go get biwi now!!
Madhu was already awake; she was purposely waiting on top of the stairs to enjoy seeing RK burst in anger. She knew now is the time.
Madhu: No need Bittuji I am here.
RK noticed Madhu walking down with papers in her hand.
RK: Ah. Biwi. Nice of you to join us. And look, you have a guest. It's not polite to keep people waiting biwi.
Madhu: Oh pati-dev, I assure you it will NEVER happen again. Even you will never have to wait for me.
RK knew that arrogant face too well. Today Madhu was somehow full of confidence. The same look that he himself had when he broke her heart. The look of complete victory.
RK: Ok biwi. We are all waiting to see why this mysterious man is here waiting for you.
Madhu: Patience pati-dev. I would like my morning tea and do my morning greetings if that's ok with you.
- Morning maa. Morning Sis-in-law.
Radiji/dipali: Morning.
As Madhu sat down across from RK she sipped her tea without ever looking away from RK's gaze. She knew he was furious with her but was trying really hard to compose himself.
Madhu: Ahhh. Such good tea for such a good day, don't your agree pati-dev? You see pati-dev, today is a special day. A day in which, you will forever remember.
RK: Really biwi. Do tell.
Madhu stood up from across the sofa and put both hands on the coffee table that divided them and slowly leaned in whispering in his ear "for today I'm leaving you." Then he saw it. The contract. The contract that she so purposely laid on top of the briefcase. Right then RK's heart sank. "could it really be?" " No! there is now way she could get that kind of money."
Madhu could see it in RK's face. He had put two and two together so fast. Madhu stood up and gave RK a smile, the kind of smile that she was about to tear him apart from within.
Madhu: Yes pati-dev. It's exactly what you are thinking. It is my turn to do the talking and for you to stay silent. Just like that night where I stayed quiet and you kept on talking, breaking me from the inside. Well today it's my turn. But don't worry pati-dev. I'll try not to hurt you like you did me.
Madhu started to walk in front of RK. How much she enjoyed seeing him unable to do anything. Because he knew he wasn't able to stop what was coming.
Madhu: You see pati-dev. This all started with'. what was it again? Oh yea, the 4 slaps. The 4 slaps, which cost me everything. The 4 slaps, that forced me to sign over my soul to you. Well today I will end it.
Madhu smiled and opened the briefcase that held the key to her freedom. Everyone was surprised except for RK. He knew exactly what was inside; he just didn't know the how.
Madhu: Here you go pati-dev. The 40 lakts!!! that you so generously gave me to save my father. Today I will return that debt to free these chains that you have shacked to my ankles. You see. I had a hard time deciding if I should do this. Do you want to know why? Of course you do. The night that you broke my heart I had sworn to get revenge. I so hated you. Hated you to the point I wanted to hurt you just as bad. But then I asked myself why? Why need of revenge? You see pati-dev'.I had no answer. Because pati-dev, there is no love between us, just pure hatred. Then I realized I just wanted to get as far away as I possibly can from a man like you. The worst thing that I could ever do to you is take away your power to keep me'pati-dev.
Madhu grabbed the contract and tore it infront of RK's face while saying " that night you killed Madhubala Rishab Kundra today I will walk out as Madhubala Shamsher Malik." Madhu then grabbed her mangalsutra and yanked it off her neck " and with this I am no longer your biwi" she let go of the of the necklace that made her Mrs. Kundra and let it fall in front of a shocked RK. RK was raging with anger that he couldn't even catch the falling mangalsutra that had now ended up landing on the floor by his foot.
RK was unable to utter a word. The only thing that kept her tied to him was now in pieces on the floor. He had lost her. But how? He knew everyone that she knew. There was absolutely no one that had that kind of money. RK has never been so mad in his life. He felt as if fire was burning inside of him. He was going crazy!! For the first time in his life he was not in control. The first time in his life, he felt his world crumbling. Madhu's eyes were not eyes of love that he was use to. They were cold, like his that night.
Madhu: But before I go Mr. Rishab Kundra, I wish you all the best.
Radiji: Madhu dear wait'.
Madhu: I'm sorry Ma'oops I mean Mrs. Battiya. No need to try and stop me, for only Madhubala Rishab Kundra would have listened. She is dead. Madhubala Shamsher Mallik will not listen to anyone now.
Madhu blew RK a kiss and walked out of his life. She walked out with her freedom and with her dignity intact. It sure was a good day for Madhubala Shamsher Mallik.
RK than grabbed a stunned Bittuji by the collar "How the F*** did this happen!! You go find out where the hell she got this MONEY!!" "NOW"!! RK was beyond furious. He was so mad that no one dares to ask any questions. Even Dipali had no nerves to provoke him. RK marched up the stairs and into his room. He grabbed the first breakable thing he saw and smashed it against the floor. "How dare she! Madhubala Shamsher Mallik!! No one runs from RK!! NO ONE!!! YOU WILL COME BACK TO ME!! ILL MAKE SURE OF IT!!"
But RK was too late. Madhu had already boarded a private plane to an undisclosed location. She did not know where she was going; she didn't care, as long as she was free from RK's grasp. On the plane looking out the window madhu thought to herself " I hope that within these 2 years apart I can stop loving him" she wiped away the tears that were starting to pour and decided that from this moment on Madhubala Shamsher Mallik will stop loving Mr. Rishab Kundra.
