So the only ideal Muslim girl is the one who wears hijaab? Give me a break. Doesn't character count for anything?Originally posted by: .A.l.i.a.
I have nothing to do with QH ..
But I saw this topic and would like to say my opinion..I'm Muslim, I'm Arabian.. I live in totally Muslim Culture, the law of country mostly follow Islam guideline ..but on our shows , women are shown to wore up knees skirt, and sleeveless shirts. In Egyptian films, women are shown to were langiries and bikini...etc.Saudi Arabia's( which is the most strict Islamic country) TV's show is showing girls wearing much more revealing clothes than Zaya's clothes. After all it's TV .. most of them think about profits, not about spreading Islam right image. and we have the right to watch or not to watch . No forces.I'm a Muslim who follow the dress code of Islam. Not because of force as some people have an idea about most Muslims girls, but because I believe it's better. However, I don't judge girls who were jeans or not covering their hair.In Islam , always the heart and the soul in more important than the external look. when both the heart and the external look combined together it's the best.Yes woman are asked to cover themselves in Islam, but also in Islam we don't have a right to judge people faith according to their clothes and physical appearance. and Islam give all of us the freedom to follow or not, to do or not, but we should be responsible about our own decision !.Every one of us has a sins .. they may not cover their hairs or body, we may watch something we should not, other lie, and some drink alcohol .. etc.. no one is perfect and sinless, so we should not judge people when we have " hidden" sins.and about Zoya .. she is not portrayed as the Ideal Muslim girl .. so it's Ok as long as she is not promoted to be the ideal one and that she is right.. she is just a Muslim girl, who reflect a big portion of Muslims girls regardless if they were wrong or right. ( which we don't have a right to judge them).

Read your post. You more certainly impiled it. And if she is not idea in anyway, then who is the most idea to you? Dr. Farhat Hashimi the wack job preacher from Pakistan who is going to be kicked out of Canada?

Sorry Laila, for butting in like that..but I don't think she implied what you think she did..I mean, since the whole topic is about Hijab and the correctness of it, or incorrectness (incase you think I'm preaching Hijab is the only correct thing..) she just concentrated more on that..

Quran is a book of guidance and not a book of law. That is why Quran needs to be read in the correct light as it says "it is a book of guidance for those who believe in unseen" . So every principle in this book is encouraged to be interpreted to meet the demand of the current state of the world- rules and regulations must change with time for the principles in this book to stay for here for eternity. There is no designated dress code for Muslim women (be it eastern or western); dressing be it for male or female depends on the culture and the surroundings. Modesty is the key as far as dressing is concerned. Safety of women, so that they are not abused and taken advantage of is the ultimate intention of any great society, culture and religion.
We love the prophet but we need to understand that he lived his time and at that time respectable women were supposed to be covered from head to toe (women from all faith Jewish, Christian, Sabian in that region...) and slave women were not allowed to cover at all (interesting.. isn't it? ). Again the Quran is all about the principles and Prophet's (PBUH) sayings were explanation and rules for that time..so that people could understand. Prophet did marry too many women- would you allow the guys in your life to many more than one? I sure hope not. Please do understand rules are made so that people can live in peace and harmony- at the end of the day it only matter how pious we are.
If covering women from head to toe resolve all social issues women suffer day to day then there would not have been so much problems in those countries where full covering is mandatory for all women. So please be mindful of what you say. There are many Muslim women who do not cover from head to toe because they do not believe their 'piety' is judged by how much they cover. Only God can judge His creation.
Also, this is a drama representing a society in India- where Muslim women do dress like the way all members of the show are shown dressed. They are not showing families from Saudi Arabia or Iran. This is a wonderful show, with beautifully depicted characters- please don't ruin the pleasure of the viewers by making comments that does not give an accurate picture of the religion that is so dear to us all Muslims- our religion has much more to it then mere "how to dress an woman".
Gul is doing a great job balancing the views in depicting a modern and practicing Muslim society. Even the Muslim producers and directors do not feel comfortable to tell stories about Muslim families- to avoid these negative comments. This is high time that Muslim families get represented in the media as they actually are.
I live in the US. I am originally from Bangladesh. I know south Asian Muslim culture well enough to say this. Please check serials from Bangladesh, they show all kinds of dressing- from women wearing full hijab to back-less blouse and saree.. from women "who are not allowed to do anything" to women" who aspire to be the leaders of the country"- that's what I call a proper representation of the Muslim society.
Love and Peace.
