Heehee.. Thank you Anu! 😛

Yes exactly I also remember Virat the most for what he said about Sachin after the WC...it was the most heartfelt set of words for Sachin among all of that post victory euphoria...well spoken guy and deffo a very talented player :-)
I was asking my brother about him after the India-Pak game this sunday. I was under the impression that after he led the way to India's Under 19 WC, he was chosen to the national team squad and it was all uphill from there. BUT my brother informed me that he was chosen and he played well too for sometime but then he didn't take all the attention humbly. He was all up in the air. He was dropped for his attitude on the field and poor form. He was brought back to the side after sometime and only after he proved himself AGAIN by playing good in regional cricket and IPL. He also admitted that his parents and coaches bringing him back to the ground.

Oooh I liked Zaheer too...especially when he first debuted...handsome guy he is :P

YUP!!!! Like Rahul Dravid handsome, you know. These two guys are not cute or hot, they are HANDSOME! Just gentleman's looks. 😳

American Football I don't follow that closely...except for the Superbowl which is obligatory to watch now I guess...haha

American Football is THE shit!!! 😆 I used to follow it somewhat but starting last year, I am OBSESSED. I have started betting on the games this year. Yup, it's starting to get a little crazy.

Just finished watching the India v/s Pakistan T20 match and lol it was really entertaining...especially how worked up the players get after getting each wicket...Yuvi especially and the LOOKS he throws at the guy he got out😆...one of the commentators actually said that there is more drama in an India-Pakistan match than a 9 o'clock soap...hahahahaha...SO true...exemplified very well in that bit where Raina silences the Pakistani fans in the stands behind him by taking one of the catches...lol

I watched it TOOO!! Are you talking about Yuvi's run out? where he threw the ball to the stumps directly? And then HE put his index finger up signaling that the player is out. 😆 He can be a little too confident sometimes but as long as it was against Pak, its okay 😛. It is weird when he is called a senior player. Man! Can you believe he has been around for TWELVE years?! I digress.
Yup saw Raina sushing the crowd. It's just a different josh for the players and spectators.

*Edit: MEGA AWWW@ that Zaheer vid with his fan...aww that is the CUTEST thing seriously...and the girl getting all shy and embarassed when the camera pans to her...haha...and Zaheer getting teased by Yuvi I(I think) in the box...hahaha...man it's refreshing to see fans with SOME tehzeeb and hesitation...otherwise the phangurls of today are so RABID, they're toh SCARY😆

RIGHT??? He is adorable! Yup that was Yuvi 😆. I think Zaheer only reacted because of him. He is too shy otherwise. (I think). And if this happens now, I wont be surprised at today's fan starting to strip to get attention 🤢. I remember watching this on TV while I had a crush on him and I was in a La la land for good few days. His humility his endearing!

Oh interesting...I didn't know much about this...I did read somewhere that he lost his father at a young age and had to overcome that loss in his life and fight for his dream of cricket.

LOL you can call it too confident or whatever it is, but I like him with all his brazen ways😆...if he's confident, he's got all that talent to back it up and having been in the game for 12 years and been instrumental in MANY big wins, I guess his record does speak for itself...you can't reach that far if you're all talk and big head😆...

I LOVED that bit where he put up the finger to indicate OUT...hahaha...he toh knew it even before the review thingy...he's always been an awesome fielder.

I digress.
Yup saw Raina sushing the crowd. It's just a different josh for the players and spectators. It totally is...it's the DRAMATICS of it all that's amusing in a sense too even as you get caught up in it as a spectator...and this is a constant thing with India-Pak matches...I can remember such dramatic incidents from way back in the 90s too...forgetting which Pak player it was but there used to be a bowler called Prasad back then...so this Pak player is clobbering him for sixes and fours...and at one point he points the bat towards one end of the field indicating to Prasad that THAT'S where he's gonna hit him...next ball, the guy is CLEAN BOWLED...I still LOVE that moment to this day😆

DANG!!! I should just ditch school for a day and sit here gushing like the high school/college kid again!!!! ☺️

Nureyyy - YES!!! See, the MOMENT you mentioned being "old school" cricket lover, I was like ALRIGHT, now we're talking!!! I usually don't jump into cricket discussions cause it's all IPL and T-20 stuff and more fangurilism than THE SPORT! But just like you said, all those brothers, you KNOW the game! And it's the GAME you're out there for, the stress, those last overs, man the LONGGG discussions before and after every game?! We used to have legit all nighters!

And I'm sure being in India is like another deal altogether, but honestly Canada is like MUCH MUCH better than America that way! My one term in the US showed me that - cricket toh dur dur tak hoti ni! Canada has more Punjabi/Indian populace domination I guess, heck they even had an official cricket team which wasn't that sad and in fact one of the guys from the 2003 WC team actually made the record of the fastest hundred in his time! I think Afridi broke it for him later...

Khairrr! I KNOW!!! Aus, SA were like the NEXT teams you talked and gushed about after IND! For my Dad it was WI he'd feel nostalgic about because he grew up when THOSE guys were like the legends!

But talking of Australian bowlers - areyyy Shane Warne toh like Sachin is a one man legend, but if it was "crushing" then I'd have to vote McGrath up ☺️ I think I just dote more on the fast bowlers in general 😆 Although come to think of that, girls around me started swooning about Brett Lee and then the NZ guy Shane Bond and that put me off those too for the most! I mean, sure, they're good bowlers and great on field - but I guess the fangurling REALLY turns me off! Not to mention, McGrath had this CLASS! I dunno many fast bowlers who can actually stand up to his manner and game!!!

From NZ toh I was a Vettori fan at one point. And then there was Kallis from SA, before I dunno what happened and I took a u-turn and got all mehhh about him 😆

Sighhh - Cricket truly runs in the ethnicity gene as an Indian I guess! 😆

@6 sixes - ☺️ It was awesome how they actually made an advert about this sometime later where Yuvi talks about how he's never even hit 6 sixes at the nets 😆 Oh anddd talking of Dhoni and Yuvi bonding, I remember watching a YT clip of some Yuvi on a talk show thing where he mentions how he still ribs Dhoni about not inviting him for the wedding and how he's ganged up with all the team and told the captain they're none of them calling him either 😆 And then he said Dhoni's wife and him totally gel and gang up on Dhoni all the time too 😆 I could TOTALLY see the scene running in my head - and it makes you want to gang up with Yuvi's side while also pull Dhoni's cheeks at the same time - he'd be such an obliging cool head even through such ribbing ☺️

@Dhoni's long hair - Oh man! You should hear my Dad about this! He has a thing for all the street boys who've made it big in cricket and he used to be such a supporter of Dhoni keeping his hair because that is who he is!!! 😆 It was actually adorable watching my dad get all passionate about how the endorsements had compelled him to get a hair cut 😆

Oh and Yuvi Kaif - dude, Eden Garden toh tha, you remember Lords? That game where the wickets were falling a pack of cards and then Yuvi and Kaif stuck it up and WON the 300+ target? Those were times when 300+ was not as common as it now comes by! And I remember news headlines talking of "Lord Kaif" ...! Yeh, he sadly fizzled out really quick - but there was a time... his time... and that time was SO MUCH about Yuvi and him the fielding-magic-moves duo!

Chalo, now I should seriously behave and get off for school. No morning classes but still.. chutti toh hoti ni research students ki kabi bi 🥱 We're like the bonded labour waali exploited junta!

OMG Jzeee! You're like from MY generation of cricket watching! Yay! You're bringing back SO many memories now...I also grew up watching cricket mainly cuz of my cousin brothers and all I've understood of the game over the years is thanks to watching it with them only and yes ofcourse if you live IN India, you CAN'T escape getting caught up in the obsession...lol

I loveddd all those SA players...I admired Jhonty Rhodes ki fielding SO much yaar...he was just ELECTRIC and super awesome...and awww you remember Yuvi-Kaif ka combo...yes yes I loved them too! Kaif poor guy fizzled out pretty quick but when he was in form, I thought him and Yuvi were super awesome especially as a fielding pair like you said...remember that epic game they won at Eden Gardens...the one where Ganguly took off his shirt to celebrate? LOL

Australian players I used to like before they all got racist and abusive in the later years...but yeah Ponting and Gilchrist were good players...I actually liked Shane Warne as a bowler too...man the players from those days were pretty iconic.

Speaking of T20 memories...here's the last over that iconic match...Dhoni's first WC win as captain...now THIS is what you call drama, man...so many twists and turns in one over only...that six from Misbah...than a ball later, he gets caught out...LOLL...drama of like EPIC proportions...only in an India-Pakistan match you'll find this...I remember everyone saying back then that Misbah won this match for India...hahaha

And check out young Dhoni with his long stringy hair from back then😆

My family are like BIG DEAL sports people at large hi - give them any sport - I'm just the football and cricket freak (and tennis just for watching) but yeh... you know, you grow up among too many brothers, you love sports like that! Specially since I wasn't growing up in the PS dominated "game" era!!! Like at least the first decade... Abi toh ghar ka ek room is like dedicated to my brother's "off" field gaming madness, but back when we were kids, it was... more real stuff 😆

With my obsession and instant liking for any sport, I AM pretty much a boy. I have always LOVED and enjoyed watching sports. Most of them. Tennis??? I am a HUGE tennis fan. I used to play varsity but those were the days when I was good. Now I just watch it and brings me so much happiness. I have been to the Wimbledon stadium, Roland Garros in Paris and of course US Open. I am planning to put a check next to Australia by 2014! . I enjoy these real sports SO much more than video games. I know the times have changed but there's nothing like working those bodies and all that sweating.

Mitsy 🤗 While I don't buy you saying you're no longer that keen on IPink - like at all! - you're just funny and cute on being so IPink sold, with all your updates and stuff too! 😆

🤗 Hi Jzee! Haha.. I guess you know me now too. I will watch it..but you have to believe me on this.. I am content. IPink (lol) can shut down tomorrow.

And dude, I TOTALLY crushed on Zaheer during the 2003 WC... it wore off eventually in time, but yeh, back then, he was like the HOT CROSS BUN of Indian team in my opinion! ☺️ Bande ka stance while fast balling, that tremendous run up - *back to the days!*

JZeee! I am all mushing over him now.

And if we're talking about crushes - I still dote on Gilchrist, that's like a never going to change thing, and I used to have a funny crush like thing for Ponting's smile 😆 Then there was Hansie Cronje ... the ending stint of his career, and life, was sad. But back in the day I was a huge fan!

Gilchrist: Now that's someone I would call a cutie. Amongst all the shrewd Australians, he was always the decent one. Such a gentleman! Ponting was cute too. I used to like a lot from Aussie cricket team, JUST their faces. Except Symonds 😛. I always used to wonder how Symonds could be on the same team as all those good looking cricketers?? Hansie Cronje's end was tragic. Sad.

Interestingly, for all my respect of Sachin, I was never a "fan" in definition. Which is also what goes for Dravid at a different level. And I loved watching Kaif and Yuvi on the field at one point, before they both sort of dwindled on the fielding aspect! But for a little while, they were like a pair impersonating THE Jonty Rhodes himself!

Kaif-Yuvi!!! I remember them batting on 5th and 6th. Kaif was another spunky one. Lanky but dependable. I am said we dont see him that much anymore. He still plays IPL I think. Jonty Rhodes was toh class apart.

ps: Erm, who is Isha Sharvani? The girl from Jhalak Dikhlaja. The Kisna girl. People in this CC hate her. Remember??

On a more current note, India's exit yesterday seems more unfortunate than deserved this time...

I couldnt believe seeing him this fit on Sunday's game. Not that I followed him closely thru-out his illness but so inspiring to see him back on his feet and look like nothings even happened.

Kumble is another one. So much respect for that man. He was a true sportsperson. I think I remember coming to bat to save India or something even when he was injured. And when he bowled with a fractured hand. That shows the dedication and love for the sport and your team. I was so happy for him when he got 10 wickets in an inning and when he scored a century in test cricket. Those are his proudest achievements. We should be proud to even have such a player on our side.

Last video for the night:

Ohh Emmm Gee ... you girls have been busy at night! All the cricket talk is making me nostalgic. Anu, JZee, I am totally from your era of cricket...Tendulkar, Kumble, Prasad, Zaheer Khan, Dravid, Irfan Pathan, Yuvi, Dhoni etc ... are the cricketers I grew up watching with my parents, cousins etc. I have stayed late nights, woken up at ungodly hour, watched with baited breath, have jumped up and down on my couch, sworn in un-Ladylike manner etc to watch these cricket matches.

I wonder why India-Pak matches create as much buzz and not India-England matches, when they were the ones who ruled over us for 200 years?

@Jzee: LOL I think I meant to say Lords only, galti se Eden Gardens nikal gaya...haha...yep that's the match...where they were chasing that seemingly impossible 300+ total and then SHOCKED everyone by winning it...took sheer grit to get there...that's why Ganguly went nuts celebrating too...haha...it's that Yuvi-Kaif moment that really stayed with me for quite a while cuz that was an amazing victory.

Yeah I can imagine the cricket craze in Canada but honestly you have to find pockets in the US and you'll know it's no less...I know that during the WC, people's lives did come to a standstill and they were gathering at the houses of various friends to wake up at 4 or 5 in the morning to watch the matches...lol

Aww@ that Yuvi-Dhoni story...that's so sweet...yeah the camaraderie b/w them totally shows...they've just had such a long innings together even as players have come and gone...new guys come in...but Yuvi-Dhoni remain a class apart.

Oh god I VIVIDLY remember all the girls around me crushing insanely on that Brett Lee too...lol...I just never got that...but yeah these were girls who obviously watched the game for EYE CANDY...haha...but yes it was a turn-off...I admired the players that actually had SKILL worth watching on the field...McGrath was very good, yes but then like I said in the later years they were all acting racists and abusive so I got put off.

Did like how Shane Warne made a comeback in the IPL and won it for the Rajasthan Royals that first year I think it was.

Take THAT! HAHAHAHA it was just SO awesomeee! Gotta LOVE the drama in cricket😆
