CHAPTER 34:

Maan pulled Geet inside his office harshly, and shut the door behind him. "What the hell were you up to? Do din chain se nahi baith sakti tum? Do you have any idea what I felt when I heard you had an accident?" He was shouting now, his concern for her coming out in frustrated anger. "Tumhe ilm bhi hai ke mujhpe kya beeti thi? No! Why would you think about that! When will you grow up Geet?"

Maan's outburst fascinated Geet, instead of being angry or worried, Geet was secretly happy. At last he was showing some reaction to her. His words showed that he cared for her. "Lekin manenge nahi! Dusht Danav!" She twisted her lip as she cursed him.

Maan turned around to look at her and saw her smiling, increasing his anger. "Tumhe hasi aa rahi hai?" He grasped her hand tightly, making her look up into his eyes. The look in them made Maan realize that he had probably said too much in haste.

His hold on her hand tightened painfully, "If you are thinking that it was you I care about, let me disabuse you of the ridiculous notion. Yes, I probably do care about you for the simple fact that till you are here, you are my responsibility. And Maan Singh Khurrana never turns his back on one. Secondly, there was someone else in the car too. If anything would have happened to Sasha, mai Virat se kya kehta?"

Geet bowed her head, knowing that the way she had accepted the mistake, she was at fault and he had every right to shout at her. "Abhi chup kyu ho? Look at me and answer Geet!" He pulled her chin and made her meet his eyes, "How could you be so irresponsible? Aaj tak tumhari harkatein mai bachpana samajh ke chodta gaya. Lekin aaj nahi! Do you have any idea what could have happened?"

But his words hurt! God did they hurt! They were like needles piercing her skin, poking a million holes and shredding her heart. And he very well knew that! He was deliberately saying those hurtful things to her, she realized angrily.

She turned her face away and tried releasing her hand, "I am sorry." She said in a rebellious voice.

"Why doesn't your 'sorry' sound like you are really sorry to me? Anyways, will your sorry pay for the damages I had to pay to that guy to save your neck?" He asked mockingly.

She glared at him in anger, was it really about the money? Her mind went over to the conversation she had overheard between Maan and Naintara about their rocky finances and she realized that maybe this had made a huge hole in his pocket and that's why he was upset. She felt repentant and guilty now, but there was nothing she could do now.

"Maan..Wo I am really sorry. I promise I won't repeat this again." She said sincerely this time. But Maan is Maan, he went on shouting at her till she angrily shouted that he needn't pay for her, she would pay for the damages herself.

Maan laughed at her statement, asking her where she was going to get the money from.

To which Geet sniped, "Any other woman in my place would have asked her husband, but my husband is such a miser, he would rather throw the money than give it to his wife!"

Maan looked at her in amusement, her statement making him laugh. This made Geet madder, and she stalked off saying she would find herself a job and payback every penny of his.

Geet was angry at Maan for his uncouth words. In a fit of stubbornness, she went to Dev's cabin. She knocked and entered to find him working, "Kya hua Geet? Tum theek ho? Why are you here? Wo bhi is time pe?"

"Haan mai theek hu, Veerji! Ye Maan bhi na! Ufff! What does he think of himself! Jab dekho bas chillate rehte hai. Pehle to he doesn't acknowledge me as his wife, lekin jab chillana hota hai tabhi barabar 'haq' ki baat ho jaati hai!"

Dev stared at Geet sternly while she pouted, "Geet, stop being childish. If Maan shouted at you, he was not wrong. Where the hell was your attention? How could you be so careless? Especially with a kid? Tum dono ko kuch ho jata to?"

Suitably chagrined, Geet stuttered, "Woh Veerji….woh actually…" Geet debated whether she should reveal what had happened to Dev. Seeing no other option, she blurted out the truth. Everything, from Sasha's accusation to the driving episode.

Dev was not shocked as he already knew about Sasha's crush on Maan, but he had no idea she would go to this limit. He again rebuked Geet for having hidden the truth form both Virat and Maan, but Geet was adamant, saying that she didn't want Sasha to go away from her father.

"Who else would realize the importance of a parent more than me Veerji?" She said, her eyes tearing up as she remembered her parents.

"I don't want her to lose her father too, Naina di told me about her mother's death and how it affected her father. I just hope Babaji resolves their problems. Agar aaj mai ye jhooth nahi bolti, to Virat Veerji would have sent her away and the chasm between father and daughter would have widened too much to close."

"Why do you always think about others? Kabhi to apne baare me socha karo. Isse tumhare aur Maan ke rishte pe kya asar padhega tumne socha hai?"

Geet bent her ahead as a tear flowed down her cheek, "I know that Veerji, lekin ek baat bolu? Today I saw some hope again. Unke aankhon me maine apne liye concern dekha. I felt cherished for a moment, ghusse me hi sahi, but he made me feel I belonged to him."

"Maan cares for you Geet! There is no doubt about it. Lekin uska ateet usko apne feelings pe aitbaar karne ki ijazat nahi de raha hai!"

"Kaunsa ateet Veerji? App mujhe batate kyu nahi?" Geet cried out, she had been hearing about his past for a long time now, but no one was telling her what was in it.

"As I told you before Geet, I am not the one to tell you that. You will have to wait for Maan to tell you that. Anyways wo sab chodo. Tum ye batao, ke tum itni pareshaan kyu ho?"

Knowing by the look on Dev's face that no amount of pleading would make him say more, Geet let him change the topic. "I need a job! Mai Maan ko challenge kar ke aayi hu ke I will find a job and pay for the damages myself. Wo khud ko samajhte kya hai? Jab dekho chillate rehte hai! Maine bhi keh diya! Mai nahi sunne wali unki." She finished poutingly.

Dev started laughing when he heard her complaining about him. "You both are really made for each other! Dono ek number ke ziddi ho!"

Rahul Chopra, who had a meeting with Dev, came in just then and overheard them both discussing about some job possibilities. He was blown over by Geet on first glance and kept drooling on her shyly, until he noticed her mangalsutra and sindoor. Then his heart broke into a million pieces.

Dev asked Geet to wait till he finished his work with Rahul. After they were done, Dev offered Geet to become his PA. Rahul was also present there, on the pretext of looking over the papers one final time, but in reality stealing glances at Geet.

But as luck would have it, Maan came in just then and overheard them. Looking at Rahul drool over his wife did nothing for his temper. His blood boiled at the sight. An unknown burning arose in the pit of his stomach, eating him up from inside. He wanted to tear the ******* apart for having laid as much as a glance on his Geet! But he had to settle with sating at the poor guy with his angry red eyes, scaring the daylights out of him.

He angrily taunted Geet again, whether she could do anything on her own capabilities or did she always need someone to help her out. This pricked Geet's ego and she announced that she would look for a job elsewhere.

Maan was now thankful that he had successfully made her reject Dev's offer. Staying with Geet under one roof daily was already taking a toll on his senses and concentration. He just couldn't afford to have Geet underfoot in the office too!

Giving another warning glare to Rahul, he walked out. Seeing the angry MSK glare, Rahul came back to his senses.

Dev had introduced Geet as his sister to Rahul. But Rahul was a sharp fellow. He had seen the looks exchanged between MSK and Geet; and also noticed the angry killing looks which were aimed at him. He could also discern the pain behind Geet's smile.

Her smile had won him over. He told Dev that his bhabhi the CEO of the Chopra Enterprises (CE) was on a lookout for a secretary, and if Geet wished she could give an interview. Their offices were not too far away and travelling would not be cumbersome.

Dev thought over it, and the thought of Geet working under a woman made him agree to it. He also thought that Geet needed to go out a little, brooding over Maan was doing her no good.

After Rahul left, fixing up an appointment for Geet's interview, Dev stared at Geet pensively. "Meri ek baat manogi Geet?" When Geet nodded, he continued, "Just tell Maan that Rahul has offered you a job as a PA. Don't tell him that it's a PA to his bhabhi."

Geet being the innocent she was asked naively, "Kyu?"

Dev smirked to himself, "You trust your Veerji right? Then just do as I say!"

Dev had not missed the jealous glare Maan was passing Rahul, and so he wanted to utilize it to the hilt. Maybe jealousy just might do the trick.
