Dear all,

This is a public interest post for those newcomers who may be reading misleading information on this forum, ie a post that purports to set out our Forum Rules. I think, at least hope, that that post has been made in jest.

The author of those points was adventurous enough to give me that advice on a thread I had created. This was my response to her:

Thank you for your concern, even though it is completely unsolicited. Nonetheless, I will take it in the spirit I hope it is meant.

Now to your points. They all seem to be made to prevent me for getting ' bashed' as that is seen as the big bugbear in forum- land. Please let me make it absolutely clear that as long as comments are posted that are not personal attacks on me or other posters or our right to hold divergent views, I am perfectly fine with it. In fact, I fully encourage people to hold different and inetersting views and to express them, debate them and thus help us all in developing new ways of looking at the world.

What i, and indeed this forum, does not permit is personal attacks, and i will protest vehemently against such behaviour. I do not need to tell you forum rules and policy; they are prominently displayed on the site. If you have not done so already, I suggest you and your friends who are writing things like ' get well soon' to me refresh yourself on their content.

The points you have made above, suggest to me, and pray forgive me if I am wrong, an overwhelming need to be one of the popular kids. Even if this means having no personality of your own or never expressing an opinion that differs in any way from that held by the herd and its leaders. Such depressingly regressive views are very unfortunate even for one person to hold, but truly tragic when championed as behaviour for EVERYONE to emulate. I would strongly urge you to reconsider your intellectual position. Life is not a popularity contest, and nor should our presence on this forum be one. It should rather be about the complexity and merit of the ideas you bring with you.

Thank you very much for your time, and hope that we meet again during a more salubrious discussion.

PS re my name : it is based on one of my favourite books. I could have made an absolutely cutting comment over how my name or its length is none of your business, but i decided to take the query as stemming from curiosity. I am sure you will appreciate my restraint.

I am posting this here to make clear to newcomers that this forum is NOT composed entirely of closed cliques. It does have wonderfully intelligent, tolerant, articulate people who will interact freely with you based on what you share on this forum, rather than because they have known you for a certain period of time or know your first name.

We welcome critical input as long as it follows stated India Forum guidelines. If you feel you are being bullied in any way, do contact the forum moderator. She is efficient and knows how to do her job.

Please feel welcome to share your views with us. There are NO rules except the ones you agreed to when signing up for India Forum, and no one can unilaterally impose any others on you or anyone on here.

This post is NOT made in jest, nor is it intended to inflame sentiments. It is just for disseminating information.

I remember reading a post when I first came into this forum where the tm was being bashed.. Some of the posts were really harsh.. I was amused reading when I read some of the comments... It all felt very childish to me... To start a fight with people you havent even seen and may never even see...

Today I saw a post detailing the MEIEJ forum rules for newbies.. Can I am connect these two incidents together? I cant understand why this new post was made when things are going pretty smoothly.. Why muddy the waters when things are calm? I can only hope that everyone who reads both the posts keep a cool head and dont start to heat things up.. Was it meant as a fun post?

Everyone please remember that this forum is open to everyone and everyone has a right to express their opinion. Not all posts may be popular..Just dont start fights and make insulting or cutting remarks when you dont like something that is written..

FQ, The new post may not be directed at you.. That might be just a fun post.. You never know what the tm intended.. Dont think that it was for you..

I know it is not directed at me. But it is confusing some people who have said so on that post, and they are being asked to leave. To me, that post may cause quite natural confusion for people who don't get the joke. This is just for their information.

Take it from someone who has been here since 2006...things have changed drastically..no one used to jump on anybody if their opinion was different..they discussed it sensibly and happily agreed to disagree.

But, in those days, actors were rather ordinary looking but had great talent...today, the stress is on looks and their hotness and chemical quotient as in hot chemistry!

Favorites become the order of the day and a even a smidgeon of 'criticism' is likely to have the hoards at your doorstep.
When this forum opened, battle lines were drawn between the two lead actors' fans. They were actually carrying over past wounds from the earlier respective forums...don't know why and don't care.

Cliques were formed and if your post or the tone of your post didn't suit either of them, you had it.

There are those who still want to see their favourites acting with their previous co-stars and can't take the this change...they talk about it and rile up the rest. VD fans dislike fan girls who adore DD and call her princess. VD fans dislike anyone who dares to comment on his looks and expression...very possessive they are.
And, there are a few DVD fans..who like both or are making a great effort to do so.

You are a late entrant here so you missed all the history and the geography!!
Actually, you are very lucky to have missed out on all that drama.

This is why I stay away most of the time.

Yes it is a shame when brainless populism takes over. I think the only way to counter it is to provide a neutral space for those who are not so aligned to interact and enjoy themselves. Why should we let devisive extremists claim this space for themselves? Peacefully and with full restraint, we should continue to assert our rights for a free and fearless space for interaction that is free from bullying. When I came on lots of people tried to bully me. They must have done so to others before me, and unless someone stands up to them, will continue to bully others. I am sure they have realised now that it is not possible to bully someone like me. But I would like to help those who may feel vulnerable if they don't want to join one of the popular groups. And therefore I believe that we should give them a voice. What do you think?

I truly wish that this forum or any forum on IF was as you envisage it.

But, go to any forum here and you'll find the same story repeated.

i know I'll be bashed for it but I have to say this..most of .the current crop of members are teenagers and very aggressive ones at that, happy and safe in their anonymity.

Basically rude and intolerant and perhaps not widely read. (I can hear the drumbeats and sabre rattling already!😆)

I must be one of the elder if not the eldest member on IF. So, I find all this laughable most of the times and reprehensible.

My point is that it is next to impossible for the essence of the forum to change. But it's cheering and positive that there are members like you who boldly tread where no man or woman has gone before...I'm serious. I don't have the temperament to counter these people...so I take the easy way out and ignore the posts...and never ever open a thread...I've had my horrible experiences.

Hey i was just trying to prevent you from getting more bashed by the peepz here...i agree that a difference in opinion is good but i feel you are a little to blunt and honest here...i personally feel like its an Oligarchy here and the forum is basically ruled by a few DDians and VDians and if any of their sentiments get hurt then they all attack. its not a democracry and i can most likely bet these peepz have probably scared quite a few peepz with different opinions away.😆

Hey i never read those rules or polices so i have no idea what your talking about. And about meenu she is a great person and good at heart, its just that she had a strong view against your post and as you said its a free forum and a democracy, so she is just posting what she truly felt from inside. Meenu saw the post and felt you had a problem so she said get well soon what's wrong in expressing her opinion.

Thanks so much for your advise but i do very much have my own personality and as for trying to be one of the popular kids, i would like to tell you i am president of my sorority in LA so i guess i am already popular in real so i dont need to try very hard in cyberland. I never change my personality for no one and i will never be herded around either. As for views i do sometimes disagree from the mass but i have been taught by my various speech professors to always give your opinions in a way that where it does not hurt anyone's sentiments and gets my point across. There are other ways to say a disappointing episode where less individuals sentiments are hurt and then you could have a better mixture of ideas. I believe that everyone has the right to their own opinions but no one has the right to hurt or put down anyone's opinions either. Everyone should express in a way where other's sentiments are not hurt, because obviously if someone's sentiments are hurt they will show you their disapproval as well. Just as you are unwilling to somewhat neutralize your posts they are unwilling to neutralize their disapproval for you and your posts. Look i am just telling you ways to avoid fights here because no one likes a fighting atmosphere.
