Salman's Ek Tha Tiger crosses 50 cr mark at Box Office on day 2

Published: Friday, August 17, 2012, 9:39 [IST]

After having an earth-shattering response on first day,Kabir Khan directed movie Ek Tha Tiger has witnessed a considerable amount of dip in its business at the Box Office on the second day and that is due to busy day for schools and college. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer movie has crossed Rs 50 crore mark in just two days. This is a record amount of collection at the Indian Box Office.

Ek Tha Tiger witnessed nearly 50% downfall in its collection at the Box Office in India on the second day. On Thursday, trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#EkThaTiger is 50% of Wed. Yet, the contribution from several mass-dominated centres should contribute to a healthy total." In reply to one of his follower, he defended its fall, "A 50% to 60% decline on a regular working day, after a holiday, is normal. Every film dips."

Salman Khan's romantic action movie, which was released in 3300 screens in the country on Wednesday, had collected Rs 32.92 crores nett at the domestic Box Office on the first day of its release. Ek Tha Tiger added Rs 17.50+ crores nett to its two days total 50.42. It has become the fastest Rs 50 crore grosser film.

However, Ek Tha Tiger has two holidays (Sunday and Monday - Eid). Even if its business moves at current pace on Friday and Saturday, its collection would easily cross Rs 100 crore mark on Monday. As per trade analyst predictions, the film would collect Rs 135+ crore on Monday. If this prediction turns out to be true, it would be the biggest record collection in the history of Indian cinema.

Ek Tha Tiger has raced ahead, setting new records in every town/city/state of India, on it's opening day at the box office. The numbers are mind-boggling and way ahead of Agneepath (Day 1) and Ra One (Day 2).

Below is a quick territory wise comparison between the opening day collections of Ek Tha Tiger and Agneepath. We have also included the second day figures of Ra One, as it was a holiday.

Please note that Agneepath released on lesser screens and had fewer shows due to it's length. The Ra One figures are for the Hindi version only. It collected about 1 crore from Tamil/Telugu versions. As for Ek Tha Tiger, it could have collected a few more lakhs, if not for the strike in Assam and the funeral of politician Vilasrao Deshmukh in Nizam.
