i think karan johar very aptly said something about it…to the effect of…people love to see characters cry/get tortured/get lambasted on screen…coz some how it makes them feel that their own lives r somewhat better…and that is the primary reason of high trps of saas bahu sagas…..i think it is very sad but quite true
