Chapter 10: we found love in a hopeless place
"Arnav what colour should I wear today?" Khushi said holding up two different coloured saris against her under-wear clad form.
"Which-ever you want sweetheart" Arnav said, tightening his watch.
"But I asked you"
"And I'm telling you whichever one, it makes no difference" He said flicking through a file.
"Hmph. Laad Gorvener, now we are back the only thing he is going to do is work, work this work that, bla bla bla" She mumbled to herself.
Getting into her skirt was no trouble; however the blouse was a different story the dori was just not getting done, her arms had begun to get tired. She wanted to call out to Arnav but stopped 'Let him rummage through his file'. While she continued to struggle she was completely unaware that her husband was silently watching her.
"Need some help?" He asked her
His voice made her jump in surprise and the dori's slipped from her hands "NO I'm fine" And she attempted to get the doris again.
Taking slow steady steps towards her Arnav could not help but smile at her struggle, taking the two dori's in his hand he tied the blouse down for her. Looking up at the mirror he saw his wifes reflection and saw her eyes closed, lips parted and chest heaving. Chuckling to himself he took pleats that were slipping and begun doing them again while she dropped herself into his arms. Tucking in the pleats he draped the pallu on her shoulder.
"All finished Mrs.Raizada"
"Huh" Regaining herself she began to struggle within his hold.
"What's the rush sweetheart?" He dropped a feather light open mouthed kiss on her exposed shoulders and smirked when he received a gasp from her.
"Go away Arnav, I don't need your help" She stated, struggling even more now that his grip had tightened.
"You sure?" He said placing another kiss, but this time near her ear.
"Positive, you couldn't even help me decide what colour I should wear, you were to concerned as to what was in that wretched file"
"Well you really want to know what I prefer you in." He asked smirking.
Not saying anything she heard him whisper "Nothing" in her ear.
Blushing so red she looked down unable to meet that oh-so irresistible gaze of his. "Arnnaavv" She purred "Mujhe jaana dijye, sab intezaar karahonge"
"Fine, on one condition, I want a morning kiss"
"Arnav, this isn't fair, you've had your morning everything, give it up" She turned within the capsule of his arms.
"Uh-ah if you want to go downstairs I need a kiss" He said his finger tapping her lips.
Knowing that her husband was not going to let her go, a naughty plan hatched into her mind "OK Arnav but you must close your eyes first"
'She actually gave in' Smirking to himself he closed his eyes.
Hiding her laugh with her hand she couldn't help but admire his cuteness. Leaning up to him with her tip-toes she planted a kiss on his already stubble cheek and ran for cover.
"Khushi" He growled "That isn't what I meant"
Giggling she told him "You asked for a kiss you didn't say where" Saying so she opened the doors of their bedroom to be greeted by the someone she never wanted to set eyes on.
"Arrey Jeeja-ji app?" Arnav asked coming to stand by his wife.
"Ji Saale Saheb, Rani Sahiba was wondering when you two were going to come down, and to avoid her from walking up and down I came to ask myself"
Struck by how thoughtful his brother-in-law had become he felt happy for his sister, finally she was going to get her happiness.
"We are just coming" He said for his wife. Looking at her she looked uncomfortable around Shyam, but things had changed, hadn't she noted the change in him as well?
Closing the doors once again he turned to see his wife in turmoil.
"What's wrong?" He asked her.
"Do you really think he has changed?" She asked him
"I don't know" He replied honestly "Aman said that there was a change to be noted, hopefully its genuine" He told her "Let's not worry about it, come on" He took her hand and they begun to make their way down the stairs.

Once she had served everyone breakfast she sat across her husband only becoming aware that she was sitting next to Shyam. Having no choice she continued to stay seated, and noticed that his eyes were on her while her husband continued to chat away merrily with the rest of the family.
Ignoring him she begun to serve herself, pouring herself her tea and reaching for the bread. Unable to reach she felt another hand going up to take it and in the process it had brushed past her arm.
"It's OK Khushi-ji I will get it for you" He said, his lustful eyes moving down her.
"Nahi I will get it" She said and in the process spilt tea on her husband
Rising with the shock of the burn Arnav begun to glare at his wife, what on earth was she doing, not having witnessed the look his brother-in-law had given her Arnav had begun to get confused by her behaviour.
But Anjali had. Anjali also noticed the glare in Arnavs eyes towards his wife, trying to save the situation she told him to go change and Khushi silently, obediently followed.
While Arnav took of his tie and other items of clothing he begun to have a heated argument with his wife.
"What was all that about Khushi?"
"I I really am sorry Arnav I-
"It's not about the tea, and you know that, when he wanted to help you why didn't you let him?"
"But-
"But nothing, my brother-in-law is a changed man now, stop trying to seek attention" He stated, and as the words left his mouth he regretted them but being the mighty Arnav Singh Raizada. He squashed the thought and left a hurt Khushi behind.
"Arrey Sale Saheb, did you burn a lot?" Shyam had asked.
"NO no its fine now thank you"
Saying so Arnav left to go downstairs, and to work. Completely unaware that their conversation was heard by Shyam, the very same man who had not changed at all and was planning something terrible in that terrible mind of his.
Shyam had heard everything and was smiling gleefully knowing that the cracks had already begun, now time to rip them apart he said to himself. Getting ready to make his master move he awaited for the next day.
-ll-
It was time for dinner but her husband had still not arrived, pacing she continuously glanced at the door.
"Khushi he will come, don't worry about it, its fine" Anjali assured her. But deep down she was worried herself, completely aware that her own husband had achieved his first goal but how was she ever to stop him.
"Khushi bitiya come and eat, Chotey will come in his own time don't worry" Nani stated.
"Ayyi Nani-ji" Khushi said and sat down to eat her own food, but she only managed to take down very few morsels and even they had to be forcefully chewed before they were swallowed down.
It was late now and Arnav still hadn't arrived, sleep had given up on her and she begun pacing her room again. Waiting for him to arrive, little did she know that within the same house walls were being built against her, and horrible things were being said.
-ll-
It was late when Arnav arrived, he intentionally came late, he couldn't meet her eyes, he knew he had hurt her but what else could he say. She had confused him with her behaviour. Loosening his tie he begun to take steps towards his room when he was called down again by the very man they argued over.
"Saale Sahab, can I talk to you please?"
"Off-course, jeeja-ji is there a problem?"
"The problem is with your wife" He said
"What?" Arnav asked.
"Come with me Saale Sahab I need to show you something" Leading the way to the basement Shyam smirked evilly to himself, things were going accordingly.
"Your wife, as I said, Saale Sahab, I have changed for my Rani Sahiba but the problem is your wife continues to make passes at me, it's the looks she sends me they make me uncomfortable, I explained this to you before as well. She is forcing me to do things I don't want to-" But Shyam was stopped by Arnavs clenched hands at his collar.
"What bulls*** is this, my wife hasn't even glanced your way" He gritted through his teeth
Smirking inwardly Shyam continued his act of innocence "That was when you were not here, however when you left, she begun apologizing to me and…." Shyam trailed off into his tails of deceit fully aware that his beloved brother-in-law was in two mind sets.
"If you don't believe me tomorrow witness it for yourself, she will intentionally place the food she wants closer to me so her hands can brush pass me, and then she glances at me but looks down hoping to not get caught. I am telling you this because I love Rani Sahiba and I don't want this to get out of hand"
Arnav left without saying anything and Shyam knew that the seed of doubt was successfully planted, not time to make it grow he thought to himself.
Arnav entered his room, in shock, his wife could not do that to him. There was no way, she loved him, she did. He began assuring himself again, and was re-assured when he saw her half asleep on the recliner. Off-course she loves you Arnav, look at her, why wouldn't she. Bending down to her level he lifted her up and placed her on the mattress but refused to lie next to her. He needed to sort some things out first.
-ll-
Morning arrived and things between Arnav and Khushi had not changed, there was still that fog in the air. Khushi was confused with Arnavs behaviour, and Arnav was confused on general.
At the dinner table Arnav saw the change in his wife, she wasn't looking at him, her eyes were down cast but he noticed everything that was happening around him. And what he saw most certainly left him stunned. He couldn't believe it, it was true. Shyam was actually right. No no he mentally shook his head. It's another trap Arnav don't fall for it, but as he looked up his eyes saw everything he didn't want to register. 'This wasn't happening'.
Looking at his wife she saw him look at Shyam but what he didn't see was the way her eyes had shifted uncomfortably and how her whole body had shifted closer towards his sister, all he saw was red. Shyam was actually right. He had made one mistake of shouting at her and she had fled back into his arms. But he wasn't going to let anything bad happen. He was going to set things right.
