PART 4
Khanak woke up with a start as her pager went off. It was 1 o'clock, early hours of the day, it was from the emergency ward, someone was in a terrible accident and they needed her help right away! without any hesitation, she went off to the ICU and was successful in her operation, like she generally is.
All her life, she had seen about 10 deaths, of them, 2 were the hardest to cope with. The 2 people who's death hit her harder than a hurricane, were her parents.
At the age of 9, after having a picnic in the Genting Highlands, her parents were walking down, when a fast running truck came by and hit them with a harsh blow'
Her mother died at the spot, her father survived for about 9 hours after the accident. Those 9 hours, Khanak will never forget and in those 9 hours, the things her father said to her were the most precious. She never shared those words and conversations her father had she shared with anyone to date. it was in those 9 hours when Khanak transformed from being a sister to a mother for Aaron, in those 9 hours, she got the lessons of her life, in those 9 hours, she got a letter that her mother and father wrote together, when Khanak was 4 years old, the letter she still had and still dared not opening, she was not ready to read that letter.
Her father was a man of very few words, but in those 9 hours, he spoke out all that he held in his heart. In those 9 hours, her father gave her his wife's necklace and asked her to wear it at all times, and asked Khanak to give Aaron a key chain on the day he thinks he would have made his mother proud. She still had to give him that chain, she had to find the right time. In those 9 hours, her father also gave her something else, a ring. His ring, that he wore at all times. He placed the ring on her ring finer and told her not to remove it until the day she got engaged with the guy whom she thinks her father would have liked. Since that day, she never removed the ring or the necklace. it was the last memory she had of her parents.
She took in everything her father said, and at the age of 9 she treasured everything her father said and would not forget it for the rest of her life.
She missed them. But never told Aaron this, though he was her best friend, as she knew that telling him would cause him to be worried about her.. she kept it all to herself. She spent several nights of her life crying to sleep, she never cried in front of anyone. She portrayed herself to be strong and to never fall. Even her boyfriend Rahul had never seen Khanak cry or never heard her talk to him about her parents.
Since her parents death, she stayed with her uncle and aunt, who caused her a lot of trouble. They treated her like a slave, gave her a store room to stay in with her bother who was only 2 years old. She had to cook for herself and her brother. She protected her brother like a mother, she would take care of him, make him sleep, she would sacrifice her sleep in order for him to sleep in peace. She would sometimes give her food to him and she would skip several meals. her aunt and uncle only gave her education in a well- known school. THat is it. her parents business was controlled by Taj and Fatin. natasha got all the luxuries that once belonged to khanak.
Taj and Fatin would beat khanak for not listening to natasha, not doing her homework for her and not giving her anything that she asked for.
Until she gained a degree to become a doctor, that is how her life was.. There was a lot of other things that happened to her, by Taj and Fatin that she wouldn't tell anyone. THe walls in her heart would not fall to let everyone into her heart and know her inside out.
Since her parents death, Khanak stopped trusting everyone for a good 10 years of her life. She stopped trusting God, and any one else. But her little brother came to rescue, though she did not tell him everything that happened between her and her aunt and uncle, he knew that they ill- treated her and he knew that she was always craving for TRUE love. He told Khanak to trust people, to tell others what was inside of her, to tell people what was happening, to tell HIM what was going on in her life. he knew that though she always appeared happy, there was always some sadness in her eyes, he saw that sadness. She listened to Aaron and let him be the ONLY person she completely trusted. She did not trust ANYONE else.
The doors to her heart were closed for anyone else to enter.
